RE: UMass/Goldie I think Chesley (?) got too far over his edges expecting more contact from the UMass guy than he got. But what cost them is "Holy Cross 2.0" -- count the guys coasting, not busting it, back into the defensive zone. Just like against Holy Cross.

Offense is execution and performance -- "What we run you can't stop." Defense is attitude and swagger -- "Your 'stuff' don't work against us." We haven't had attitude and earned swagger on D for a while.

I was lead on hiring a new CEO a year or so ago. I was pretty sure we had the guy internally, but I demanded we spent the time, money, and effort for a national search. Why? As I told the (internal candidate) new CEO, "If we just hired you there'd be skeptics. I, and you, can say you didn't "get" the job but that you won it."
