Anyone else notice "model university" Wisconsin playing football at Chapel Hill over the weekend? Yes, the University of (we won't play the Bradley Braves) Wisconsin was playing the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. What's a Tar Heel? A Tar Heel is someone who fought pro-slavery (!) in the Civil War. Wisconsin: Anti-Indian, pro-slavery.

Why go to an NDSU game and not the UND game if you are a Sioux fan? I'm not harping or chastising. I'm asking "Why?" Time? Travel? Cost? Did you get freebies? Social event? Need a car pool?
-
That's concessions at Hyslop. REA concessions are in the REA budget.

bisonguy: I'll pass on the Wall Street bridge right now. Here's what was on UND's IAC website as a projected FY04 revenues: Mens Hockey Tickets $2,350,000 Football Tickets $375,000 Basketball (Tickets) $220,000 Volleyball Tickets $2,000 Womens Hockey Tickets $7,500 Fighting Sioux Club $1,468,811 Guarantees $95,500 University Fees $765,214 Marketing and Promotions $350,000 Miscellaneous Income $150,000 Administrative Income $152,500 Concessions $7,000 Building and Facilities Rental $2,000 I can only report what that said and I don't see institutional support or appropriated funds listed there.

I've been trying to look at the Massey Ratings (Mratings.com) and figure out who's where but he has them sorted by something other than his rating.

None of that changes the two considerations Dr. Kupchella has put forth as his main concerns all along: - conference - budget

star2city: That's my line. GCWaters: That's why I'm interested in the FY05 (ended 06/30/05) EADA data for all of the schools in the region. I want to see how each is uniquely doing their budgets. However, with the numbers I have available (NDSU's are FY 02 and from their CSL Market Study; UND's are FY04 and from their IAC website) here are the revenue sources listed in each budget: NDSU: Tickets and Donations - 35% Student Fees - 12% Institutional Support and Appropriated (State) Funds - 33% UND: Tickets and Donations - 75% Student Fees - 13% Institutional Support and Appropriated (State) Funds - 0%

For the record, The Idea: If "Sioux" is "hostile and abusive" replace it with the name of the greatest enemy of the Sioux. You'd be accomplishing two things: - you'd be protecting the Sioux - you'd be "hostile and abusive" and dishonoring that Sioux enemy Thus, "The Fighting Cavalry." That'd sure be a good way to tell Gen. George Armstrong Custer that he was a loser and dishonor him now wouldn't it. (Well, that's what the anti-Sioux folks' "logic" says at least.)
-
I believe a review of the numbers will show others have done the same. Beware of glass houses.
-
That's why I want to see the 2005 EADA data (for both). I want to compare FY 04 to FY 05 for each and note the changes.

NDSU has the potential for a $600k FY 05 shortfall according to the last report on Inniger's progress. UND is the one with the $200k problem in FY 05.
-
Please re-read my post and reconsider your response. Thank you. Bison Dan: I think what both sides are (slowly) realizing is that they need each other for the BB gates, mens and womens, (8000) that they give each other annually plus the every-other-year football gate.

Since NDSU began its transition, it would seem that NDSU and UND have had the same number of established DI conferences asking each to join. The issues remain unchanged: conference and money. Conference was addressed above. As far as money, I'm interested in seeing the Fiscal Year 2005 numbers (EADA data for July 2004 through June 2005) for both UND and NDSU. The last reports I heard for each were that UND was coming in about $200k in the red for the year and that Mr. Inniger was $600k short of the $1 million he alone (outside or Team Makers) he needed to raise to make budget. What are the real final numbers and what can be learned from each set?

What's the best thing about North Dakota

Overconfidence is a formula for disaster. Play Sioux football. Win the game. Get everyone off the field with no injuries. And then beat the next set of Vikings the next week. On a side note: What a stretch, namely, Warriors, then Vikings, then Vikings. I sure hope for their sakes offended European-Americans don't protest those names.

From the Dakota Student and quoting Tex Hall: Let's look at that again: Translated: Only Tex's opinion matters, not the opinion of the people who elected him. PS - Isn't Tex a member of the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara)?

That's unpossible. :D

Maybe it's just me, but my impression of Dr. K is that he is and always has been more academic than administrator (or politician). I got the same feelings when I've talked to him but he comes back with a logical, well-thought response even when you were sure he was thinking about something other than what you were saying to him. That's why I say I believe he's more academic (pondering the words with a neutral look on his face) rather than an a guy who gives the empathic looks and nods (politico) while not listening to you. Now, if (big if) my take is correct Dr. K being upset by this action by the NCAA is wholly expected. Academics know that free speech and free expression are the absolute first necessary right for academia. Any attempt by anyone to stifle them must be met headlong (as he is doing).

The NCAA called UND "hostile and abusive". If UND is found to be no such thing (as evidenced by the US OCR finding), that's slander. Slander ---> damages? Damages, on a national scale, from a group known to have a $6,000,000,000.00 television contract. Oh, the mind races .....

If you have to change the name...
The Sicatoka replied to JESUS,family, rutgers's topic in UND Nickname
What I probably should have said was, " ... in some American Indian religions are:" Thanks for pointing out how ("foreigner") someone could easily get confused when moving around in the Siouxan languages. The whole "n" thing is a classic example. People think learning English is difficult. -

Guess what the two most sacred symbols of Wakantanka (The Great Spirit) of American Indian religion are: The buffalo (Tatanka) The eagle (Wabli) Based on the NCAA's current precident, all it would take is a couple of folks to protest to the NCAA and Boston College (Catholic) and Colorado (public) and a whole host of others could be looking for monikers and mascots. Far fetched? Unfortunately, nothing seems far fetched lately. -
The Bird/Dr. J/Stockton look is too short, but longer than today again? If BB shorts get any longer companies will be able to dig out the old, ugly "Cooperall" hockey pants and sell them as BB shorts.
