Where do you get this stuff.

The NCAA has opened up a rat's nest for themselves, again. The worst possible offense according to them is "stereotyping via a mascot". They gave FSU, with that very offense, a pass.

Late August plus six months equals late February. There's not much adding one defenseman, who hasn't played in a year, will do for a team's fortunes at that point. I suspect a medical hardship year is in Robbie's 2005-06 future. Welcome to 8 defensemen: Smaby, Radke, Chorney, Jones, Lee, Finley, Alexander, and Marvin.

Both ran red. And that's not just overall, but in nearly every EADA subcategory (see above).

The 2004 EADA data shows that both athletic departments ran red ink for the fiscal year. Only two subcategories of how EADA breaks the data down (or is it how it's reported to them) had black ink: Mens sports other than FB and BB at UND (think "hockey") Revenues: $3,840,395 Expenses: $3,379,348 Net: $461,047 Womens BB at UND: Revenues: $537,421 Expenses: $513,088 Net: $24,333 The only data I can find out there for NDSU is the FY 2002 data (from the CLS report) and UND's (projected) FY 04 budget. There NDSU donations (assumably Team Makers) were listed as $1,028,000 and the Fighting Sioux Club was listed as $1,468,811. But those numbers don't matter in this context. The EADA numbers are the final budget numbers for each school for that year. However, EADA doesn't list the breakdown of revenue sources (meaning tickets, donations, etc.).

Is the "JBB" here the "JBB" we've come to know and love so much in this forum?

For the record, FY 2004 EADA (http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/Search.asp) data: Football Revenues Expenses Net NDSU $1,309,531 $1,553,273 $243,742 UND $1,316,666 $1,485,800 $169,134 Why bring up budgets? Because you can't play the games if you can't pay the bills. I'm sure there is some "Enron accounting" on both sides. (I guess only the government can get away with that.) But both are public schools that have made claims and statements about budgets and budgeting in the past. Let's get it all out onto the table and see who's where fiscally and what one can learn from the other.

Mr. Kojich is the new guy in media relations at UND. Guess where he came from. (It's not FSU, but it's another member of the 18.)

The GF Herald, with Ms. Yellow Bird on staff, is pro-name? With their history of covering every BRIDGES or related event is pro-name? I'd give the Herald a rating of trying to stay down the middle on reporting and being slightly tilted pro-change editorially. -
Dan Cole is pretty common. (That's not a compliment.)

Here's an interesting recent article from The National Annenberg Election Survey, which is a part of the University of Pennsylvania, the Quakers*. Not only does it gives results, it gives the specific question posed.

From the Fox News story: Two!?!?! Oh my. MafiaMan: You missed "Vandals", the Germanic tribe that sacked Rome in 455 AD and now the mascot of Idaho.

My hope is that if the Sioux moniker goes American Indian students will be just as invisible as every other subcategory of student on campus, for example those with Nicaraguan or Norwegian or whatever heritage. They'll be equal. Of course, being equal is a two-way street. You may gain; you may lose. -
From the Dan Wetzel link above:

Dakota is a tribal name. Verbotten. And if you're going with that type of logo, why not ....
-
EdtheFred: Then why not show the numbers. Where are they? I won't disagree that new revenues are coming in, but are they covering the new expenses? The DII Study is strong evidence that the answer is most likely "no". Show the numbers. Prove everyone wrong.

Got mine yesterday.

There I agree. And they could stop marketing "H-Sioux-O" and start selling "mni" (pronounced like the first part of that state to the east) or more specifically, "wiwila mni", spring water. Some education, something they should be promoting to stay in accord with Spirit Lake Nation, on the Siouxan language would be a good thing.

And FSU has a mascot (Chief Osceola and Renegade): A potential big stumbling-block for them on the way to an exemption.

A person, college student or not, would still have to - live somewhere and eat something (room and board) - fulfill other human needs, like clothing, to exist (personal expenses). Cut those two basic realities of human existance out of that list, because they are part of life no matter where you are, and what's left is $700 of books and supplies. -
Upon further review, and after listening to Dr. Kupchella on ESPN Radio, the second selection option is no longer available. "North Dakota Playoff Jersey" is disqualified. Why? Because "Dakota" is an American Indian tribe and those names are banned from NCAA tournament play jerseys. I guess we just go with "Playoff Jersey". I've eliminated "North" because someone from Canada could be offended that we are calling ourselves "North".
