  1. Interesting doings regarding an arena on the other side of town. Fargodome sales taxes, and escrows, and publicly finanaced arenas (assumably for NDSU) seems to be the latest, trendiest bloodsport in Fargo. http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm...mp;section=news
  2. Dang, I thought it was Tuesday. It is Wednesday.
  3. Is it February 6 yet? (Don't worry, the next whine will be, "Is it the end of March yet?")
  4. (on the stadium PA) We've got foul, unnecessary use of facts, on Diggler. That's 15 yards and a 5 minute major. 2nd down, face off in neutral ice.
  5. Given the hack-job done on other nickname supporters, no wonder someone wants to remain anonymous. PCM is right: Name-changers are up in arms about "less than $100,000" but they'd spend $4 MM (sounds low to me) to change the name. As far as the money itself, ScottM is right: These protesters assume these folks would give it to UND either way. Nice way to spend someone else's money there professor. As far as the SLC attorneys, I wonder if they aren't billing because maybe, just maybe, they are working on contingency (think: cut of big anti-trust settlement). In closing, the only quote in that article that matters is from Stenehjem (above). I'm not paying for this, at least with my tax dollars.
  6. Just because that's the way it's always been is not a reason to maintain status quo. Programs can be moved to other schools. UND has well established distance education (only accredited distance learning engineering degree programs in the country). Nursing at Bottineau could go to UND, as could water technology (through UND's EERC). Horticulture, wildlife and forestry seem to fit NDSU's mission. Move those there. This state has 11 public colleges for 640,000 people. It's too much. Combine that with today's technology (on-line learning, UND distance education) and there's no need for a college in every other town. Yes, this would seriously hurt Bottineau, and Devils Lake (Lake Region), and Mayville, and Valley City, and Williston. I'd take the last step and close Wahpeton too (one tech school in Bismarck with outreach space for the remaining campuses). But reality right now says we're subsidizing those towns with schools and we have an older, and older population trying to do it. At first I'd say spend the money that was used on the campuses in those towns trying to spur economic growth there. But long-term those towns need to either do right things to survive or face the choices made. Over the long term, "constitutionally mandated" or not, some of the schools in this ND need to be closed for the fiscal health of the whole system and state. PS - I have direct relatives who graduated from 3 of the 6 schools I'd close. Don't think I wouldn't get punished for my plan.
  7. Not quite the same, but still interesting .... NORTH DAKOTA LEGISLATURE: Bail-out for INMED unlikely And what does " 2 + 2 " equal in your world?
  8. In an amazing coincidence, that's what I guessed it would cost to change UND's athletics moniker.
  9. Think Blais would want to move back to GF and coach hockey with less pressure, like say a womens team?
  10. I don't believe "coaches of color" will be the next area. Given the look at using men in womens practices and the NCAA statements about "violating the spirit of Title IX", I believe that will be the next area that the Executive Committee will try to exercise its form of "social justice" in. Remember: Title IX is Federal law, not NCAA rule, but the NCAA will go after trying to enforce it "their way" it just the same.
  11. Well, they have significant opportunity for improvement then. The WCHA is immeasurably behind the NHL when it comes to going to a clean, no-clutch, skating game. Today every other college hockey league is much closer to NHL standards.
  12. That's the "payback's a ... " theory, and once the door is open the flood follows. It's always fun when it's the other guy's ox being gored. People forget they have oxen also.
  13. From INCH: So Campion didn't go with the "marble in the pocket" theory of officiating that night. Interesting. The most important question is this: Did MSU-Mankato commit five more penalties than Minnesota? This expectation that every game should have equal numbers of powerplays is unrealistic: Objectively call what's happening on the ice.
  14. This is unfortunate, but accurate. Officials must be objective, but most fail this at some level. Not to go "Steven Covey" on you all, but you choose your reponse to situations. Allowing unbridled emotion as your choice isn't rational. Never truer words said.
  15. If you had Ohio State and 26 points, .... you lost!
  16. (I can't resist the temptation any more ... ) Given the history here (NDSU trying to woo the Sky and being spurned), does McFeely's uber-bashing of the Big Sky, casting it as something you really don't want, signal that an invite to UND is coming soon? I wouldn't put that type of behavior past the Fargo sports media jackals.
  17. The Big Sky allowed itself to be put into a box, and now the box is getting smaller: The west coast BSC wing is associated with talk of jumping ship to west coast based conferences. The xDSU's have found homes (assuming Gateway, Mid-Con) to the east. The Big Sky better realize this narrowing or squeezing of what was their vast space or they'll be the "Top of the Rockies Only" (and not much else) conference soon.
  18. Why would they waste their time looking at it if they didn't have something in mind. The NCAA can't control the local paper (assumably), but what about a member school's sports information department? If you don't run equal number of stories on your website on women and men .... Sound crazy? No moreso than "no men in womens practices". And look where we're at already.
  19. Wouldn't NDSU need - a college capable facility - the funds for a program (mens and womens, Title IX) - to appease the staunch "football only, no hockey" folks in TeamMakers first?
  20. Toss in http://board.uscho.com/showpost.php?p=2222...amp;postcount=8 for good measure.
  21. Good try 'mog, but not quite. The NCAA stated (letter to UND, Aug 9, 2005): The same folks that don't like "Sioux" can't like a great Ottawa chief like Pontiac's name tied to a car, and especially when the car uses a (stereotypical) arrowhead logo trademark. Yet, the NCAA has chosen Pontiac as an official sponsor which clearly flies in the face of "respect for and sensitivity to the the dignity of every person". " ... everyone associated with an intercollegiate athletics ..." indeed.
