Well, NCAA sanctions, risk losing the Big Sky, the damage already out there in recruiting (per Dale Lennon), not to mention the "political football" aspects PCM brought up, the math says the moniker hit 'net negative' so it was time for it to go.

I have $10 that says that was not the biggest administrative error that day at the NCAA the day that was shipped. I have another $10 that says that wasn't a "top ten" administrative screw-up for that week at the NCAA.

As of the YES vote on Measure 4 and the ND SBoHE's actions at their June 14 meeting, no, the sanctions are no longer in place against UND because it no longer has a moniker that is in non-compliance with the NCAA policy.
