  1. So, UND has to use the nickname and logo to retain the rights, which is what the NCAA settlement requires. Gosh. How's that going to work? There's an option that nobody has brought up: UND could transfer the rights to one of the two Sioux tribes. But that means the tribe holding those rights would be in the same "use it or lose it" situation that UND is in. I could see one of two great ironic scenarios coming out of a transfer of rights however: - Either the alleged victims of the "hostile and abusive" nickname and logo would make a lot of money selling Fighting Sioux merchandise to UND fans. (Spirit Lake would be in the best position to take advantage of that opportunity. Imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth at Standing Rock if that scenario played out.) - Or, the tribe wouldn't do anything and lose the rights, which would then enable third parties to begin engaging in the very practice that the NCAA sought to avoid when it tried to force UND to keep the rights. Thank you, NCAA. You certainly made a fine mess of this.
  2. Naw. Just keep an eye on Midco SportsNet. You'll catch it during a replay of once of the games.
  3. Really? So you weren't listening to the UND hockey broadcasts where they noted Kristo sitting with other teammates who weren't dressed for the game but that he was on crutches and wearing a protective boot.
  4. Kristo: Only he was at risk from a decision. Dehler: He got behind the wheel drunk. <-- That's "intelligence"? You: FAIL. Dehler: EPIC FAIL.
  5. KFGO Radio was reporting that the Land Rover was a total loss. To total a Land Rover takes some doing.
  6. You show me a school without gender equity concerns and I'll show you a school without a football team.
  7. Scouting report on Dehler: - slider sometimes goes out of control - hits the corner with the breaking stuff
  8. http://msn.foxsports.com/collegefootball/story/Connecticut-takes-big-financial-hit-for-Fiesta-Bowl-030211?GT1=39002 Ouch. 1.8 million ouch.
  9. It's nice to see UM Crookston succeeding over its peers ... Golden Eagle equestrian teams host final shows and regionals Some big-time east coast newspaper recently did a story on college hockey arenas and their best attributes (mentioning the awesome smell of roasted Bavarian almonds at REA). I wonder if some big-time east coast newspaper will do a story on college equestrian arenas and their attributes? Will UM-C or NDSU win "most aromatic"?
  10. Somebody call Indiana Jones! Minard Hall = Temple of Moo.
  11. So to meet the terms of the agreement we have to retire and protect the logo. But the only way to protect the logo is to use it. But using it means it's not retired. ScottM: I'll save you the trouble --> The lawyers are back car shopping.
  12. Cow burial is very high research activity if you can spend a semester doing it.
  13. Ever wonder what big news at ND's agriculture college is? Well ... http://plainsdaily.com/story/10119 They're deeply worried about where they buried a cow roughly 80 years ago. Better? At NDSU you can spend a semester researching a cow burial and count it toward graduation. It's not smack, it's AP reported fact. And it just writes itself.
  14. If UND made a decision to ditch the Fighting Sioux nickname without fully involving all its stakeholders, why should it be so hard to believe that it will pick a new nickname without involving those same people?
  15. If UND earns a point (or if DU loses a point, remember, that gives UND a full share also) on Friday, I'd expect to see Eidsness on Saturday.
  16. The NCAA, which is all about student-athletes and never money, will put Michigan in Green Bay and UND in St. Louis because they know UND fans will travel to either and Michigan fans can't find, much less attend, anything outside of the Big Ten footprint.
  17. Senior day is a day for ... the seniors. Cup day is a team day. Don't let one overshadow the other.
  18. Folks, I've been telling you to demand an open, public process start immediately. Now you know why ...
  19. A little face time in the New York Times can't be all bad ... http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/26/sports/26sioux.html?_r=1&src=twrhp
  20. That's exactly why you don't have a mascot. Instead you use a representative, controlled image created by an artist, like the painting of General Washington, or Mr. Brien's work. With the artwork you control the message. Florida State is just asking for a problem with a guy in paint and buckskin on a war pony. All it'll take is that personifier to be photoed at the wrong place, at the wrong time. That's exactly why you don't have a mascot.
  21. I'm guessing we won't be seeing him at McDonald's for six months.
