UND-1 Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Not any time soon. They needed to get it all figured out in a Master Plan so they didn't make a mistake at the beginning. The indoor practice facility is a go for sure and that will be a major recruiting tool when finished, sometime in the next two years.
The Sicatoka Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 But there is a plan. And it's more than a plan, there are renderings. The scale of what is being talked about however is something that'd have to be done in phases.
MplsBison Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 I think the plan is to sign a long term agreement with the Alerus, something like 10 years. Then after that if it's obvious that the Alerus is too small for UND football, the plan is to build a new on campus stadium. Whether or not they'd be able to afford a retractable roof stadium would have to be discussed. In 10 years from now, who knows? It might cost 500 million.
star2city Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 In 10 years from now, who knows? It might cost 500 million. In 10 year from now, who knows, UND might have a $1 Billion endowment. After all, the five year goal is 500 million. Numbers like that and facilities that that could built with it are known to make Bison fan either sick, raving mad, or claim UND administrators are out of their minds.
MplsBison Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 If it makes you sleep better at night hoping that UND will have a 500 million dollar endowment in 5 years, please do.
The Sicatoka Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 If it makes you sleep better at night hoping that UND will have a 500 million dollar endowment in 5 years, please do. Now ya go and steal my shtick and try to pass it off as original. Not cool.
gabe01 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Is UND building a retractable stadium? No and it's not going to happen in our lifetime. With some luck maybe by 2040. It's UND propaganda trying to convince the public UND is bigger than they really are. They want to take focus off the fact they have dwindling enrollment and draw 5,000 fans for playoff games.

You really came in spewing venom about every topic possible today - Its Friday, lighten up Francis. We all know: NDSU is better than UND and is now eligible for the playoffs so they will win the National Championship this year an a few more after that. We got it. Just make sure you let Appy St. know so they are prepared.

How has the attendance typically been for you in the fargodome for playoff games? Must be more than 5,000 huh?

Darn it. Why do such intelligent people have to read this message board? Gabe, you blew the cover off this one.
MplsBison Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 How has the attendance typically been for you in the fargodome for playoff games? Must be more than 5,000 huh? We've never hosted a playoff game in the Fargodome. That changes in 2008. Regardless if we're seeded or not, we'll easily outbid whoever we're matched up with for the home game. Will you be there? 19k+ will.

MplsBison Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 You do realize that 4 of the 1st round FCS playoff games have no seeded teams, meaning that the home game goes to whoever bids the highest for it, don't you?
TheGreatSiouxNation Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 You do realize that 4 of the 1st round FCS playoff games have no seeded teams, meaning that the home game goes to whoever bids the highest for it, don't you? Are you going to have the taxpayers pay for that also??? NDSU can't raise enough money to pay for anything on their own. i.e Fargo Dome, Newman, new Dome expansion. Just let the state and the city pay it for us. NDSU loses $16,000 for every football game they put on TV this fall. I hope you can buy your way to the "First Yellow State Playoff game in FargoDome history." It has only been 18 years since you hosted one.
MplsBison Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 All it means is you agree to give the NCAA a cut of the money you take in from the game. The one who agrees to give more gets the game. That's also why they don't seed all 8 home games. Potentially, you could have 8 teams like UT Martin, who are really good but don't draw many fans. ESPN2 doesn't show the games for free.

Did you enjoy the TV games? We going to try to televise all of them this year. Great PR and exposure for very little cost.

Not a foreign concept calling it a state university... not a private one! NDSU raised 15 million for the BB arena already and have a renovation plan in place if they dont do the dome addition, which is surplus and alread approved. NDSU pays for the tv games with advertising dollars. Of course it takes money to make money and it's obvioulsy working since NDSU has more than 1,000 students than UND. You make it sound like UND is some dynasty. By the time UND is eligibable for the playoffs it will have been nearly 13 years since the last Championship. Our last championship was 17 years ago.
