UND83
Bakken recently made the following comment about the nickname here: (http://www.areavoices.com/bakken/) He says: "If (when) it goes, circumstances may even dictate what the nickname might become. The Force of the North, for example, might become publicly accepted and then shortened. When the public is more accepting, that's when a new nickname should be put in place. Not before. Force is just an example. It could easily be turned into Farce by opponents, . . Is that a problem? Click on link below and look at second picture. (Sorry, not sure how to post just the pic) http://www.pasty.com/discuss/messages/313/903.html I bet the 40 or so Farce members would give permission to use the name
BigGreyAnt41
Doesn't seem like a bit deal to me. No matter what nickname is chosen there will be people who will mock it.

I guess my point was that if Force became the new name and people mocked it by using "Farce", that still has ties to UND, and wouldn't really be an insult. PCM
If UND becomes the "Fighting Nokotas," we'd have the option of being either "The Horse of the North" or "The Force of the Horse."
Chief Illiniwek Supporter
..."The Horse of the North" or "The Force of the Horse." ...of course, of course. (Sorry, couldn't resist; especially since I got in late on the Go-Go's reference.)

Chief Illiniwek Supporter
Stop horsing around. So you're saying I need to rein myself in? Hay, what can I say? I know I get over-excited about the subject. Maybe my sense of humor is becoming un-stable.

Siouxmama
See how much fun this could be? I'd love to join in on this, but I'm so busy I don't know if I found a rope, or lost my horse.

There's some good horse-sense right there.

The Sicatoka
Given PCM's "Nokes" notion, If the team is just toying with an opponent could it be said they're doing the "Noke-a-dope" (with apologies to Muhammed Ali).

UND83
Depends on the royalties, and whether the nickname is used respectfully. Farce Poobah: I don't remember the Farce doing anything respectfully Other than sing the National Anthem with fervor.

UND83
I always thought they treated Kermit with respect. Oops, forgot about that. Yes, Kermit was always treated well. And so was the dead badger that was thrown on the ice, except when it fell from a 3rd floor window at Smith hall
farce poobah
Oops, forgot about that. Yes, Kermit was always treated well. And so was the dead badger that was thrown on the ice, except when it fell from a 3rd floor window at Smith hall We were always respectful (after the game). Especially to the referees (after the games and once we discovered their post game hang out). Kermit was treated well while he hung out with the Farce. He said he was abused while at Michigan, though. Psychological scars.
