UND83 Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Bakken recently made the following comment about the nickname here: (http://www.areavoices.com/bakken/) He says: "If (when) it goes, circumstances may even dictate what the nickname might become. The Force of the North, for example, might become publicly accepted and then shortened. When the public is more accepting, that's when a new nickname should be put in place. Not before. Force is just an example. It could easily be turned into Farce by opponents, . . Is that a problem? Click on link below and look at second picture. (Sorry, not sure how to post just the pic) http://www.pasty.com/discuss/messages/313/903.html I bet the 40 or so Farce members would give permission to use the name Quote
BigGreyAnt41 Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Doesn't seem like a bit deal to me. No matter what nickname is chosen there will be people who will mock it. Quote
UND83 Posted December 7, 2007 Author Posted December 7, 2007 Doesn't seem like a bit deal to me. No matter what nickname is chosen there will be people who will mock it. True. I guess my point was that if Force became the new name and people mocked it by using "Farce", that still has ties to UND, and wouldn't really be an insult. Quote
PCM Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 If UND becomes the "Fighting Nokotas," we'd have the option of being either "The Horse of the North" or "The Force of the Horse." Quote
Chief Illiniwek Supporter Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 ..."The Horse of the North" or "The Force of the Horse." ...of course, of course. (Sorry, couldn't resist; especially since I got in late on the Go-Go's reference.) Quote
KEH Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 save your voices we don't want any horse sounding cheers tonight Quote
Chief Illiniwek Supporter Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Stop horsing around. So you're saying I need to rein myself in? Hay, what can I say? I know I get over-excited about the subject. Maybe my sense of humor is becoming un-stable. Quote

Siouxmama Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 See how much fun this could be? I'd love to join in on this, but I'm so busy I don't know if I found a rope, or lost my horse. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 If UND becomes the "Fighting Nokotas," we'd have the option of being either "The Horse of the North" or "The Force of the Horse." There's some good horse-sense right there. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Given PCM's "Nokes" notion, If the team is just toying with an opponent could it be said they're doing the "Noke-a-dope" (with apologies to Muhammed Ali). Quote

UND83 Posted December 8, 2007 Author Posted December 8, 2007 I always thought they treated Kermit with respect. Oops, forgot about that. Yes, Kermit was always treated well. And so was the dead badger that was thrown on the ice, except when it fell from a 3rd floor window at Smith hall Quote
farce poobah Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 Oops, forgot about that. Yes, Kermit was always treated well. And so was the dead badger that was thrown on the ice, except when it fell from a 3rd floor window at Smith hall We were always respectful (after the game). Especially to the referees (after the games and once we discovered their post game hang out). Kermit was treated well while he hung out with the Farce. He said he was abused while at Michigan, though. Psychological scars. Quote
