GeauxSioux
September 16, 2009 IAC Meeting. Logo: The logo controversy continues to impact Athletics. As an example, the UND swimming and diving team was scheduled to travel to Iowa City. The Iowa school was hosting a meet and the University of Illinois was attending. Due to the name/logo, Iowa would not compete against UND but Illinois was on our schedule. UND was recently contacted by Iowa and told they could not participate in an event at their school because of the logo. Until the logo issue is resolved, scheduling will continue to be a major problem.Budget: Scott Herring, Associate AD/CFO, presented a budget report. He went through the revenues and expenses, relating the items to the pro forma and to actual revenues and expenses. Athletics finished FY09 in the black. MplsBison
Just another reason why dropping the logo is the simplest way. Maybe not the best way, but the simplest way.
GeauxSioux
October 20, 2009 IAC Meeting....Facility Issues Brian Faison discussed several facility issues that are taking place. The swimming pool in the Hyslop has serious issues and is in need of major renovations. The University is in the process of deciding the next steps to take. There are also issues with the Hyslop weight room floor. Nate Baukol, Director of Strength and Conditioning, has put together a plan to account for anything, shuffling of teams, etc. Ongoing projects include a partnership with the Grand Forks Parks and Recreation Department regarding baseball and tennis facilities. The plans for the indoor practice facility for football and track are also ongoing.Interesting.
RD17
It will be very interesting to see what the final plans are for the indoor facility and how it's going to be financed. IMO, an indoor facility is an immediate need for the athletic department and it is something that will help shape the future for several different sports on campus. It will obviously help football, but track and field, soccer, and baseball/softball would also stand to benefit. For this reason, I hope the plan is to not cut corners and to build the highest quality facility that can be afforded. It's that important to the future of UND athletics. UND did get authorization to spend $19.5 mill (without any appropriation) from the 2009-11 Legislative Authorizations, so there wouldn't need to be an extensive wait if the donations are availabe. With the EERC scheduled to add on to their Hydrogen Research Center directly south of the Old Engelstad, there's less land available and the old REA may have to come down (but on who's $?) 2009-11 Legislative "Appropriation" College of Business and Public Administration Building renovation $20,500,000 Energy and Environmental Research Center storage and support building 1,540,000 Indoor track and practice facility 19,500,000 Relocation and renovation of the Oxford House 750,000 Renovation and addition to the Education Building $11,200,000 Starcher Hall emergency generator 600,000 School of Medicine forensic pathology facility 129,000 Airport hangar renovation 1,500,0002 School of Medicine Bismarck Family Practice Center 5,400,0003 Total $11,200,000 $42,890,

star2city
I thought the last report we heard was that they were somewhat seriously considering converting the old REA into the practice facility. That was the last report. The $19.5 M "appropriation" should be able to cover either option.
UND1983
That was the last report. The $19.5 M "appropriation" should be able to cover either option. The idea of converting it was a bad one. Not an option. It will be demolished and the new one will go on that site.

I would imagine the school is going to submit a request for funds by the state. I can't imagine these things come cheap at all...

Goon
Per the attachment above, this won't be part of the General Fund. Someone needs to drop some coin. That seems like a lot of money that will need to be raised. Yikes, maybe UND should ask for a stimulus package.
