skateshattrick
The awards are up on the WCHA website. 3 Sioux made the 3rd team, Drew Stafford, Matt Smaby and Jordan Parise. Brian Lee and TJ Oshie made the all-rookie team. Toews and Chorney got screwed, IMHO. Toews is WAY better than Raymond. Chorney is better than Butler or Lee if you look at his +/-, but apparently, the people that vote just look at points.

Walsh Hall
Kessel -73 Oshie - 72 Not sure if the top vote getter for the rookie team gets ROY or if that is a seperate vote. Carle had the most votes for 1st team as well.
CVCL
I think the picks are fair, maybe switch Smaby and Googley Googley. I'd also switch Lee for Chorney. Otherwise it's really Drew and Travis's fault they're not higher.

THETRIOUXPER
That shows whoever is doing the picks is not in touch with reality No $hit. There is a much bigger fish to fry however. Let's hang #8 at the Ralph in a few weeks.
Sioux_Hab-it
Just another pathetic and feeble attempt by the WCHA. I guess their only assessment mechanism remains wide area TV coverage. Well Sioux this weekend is your chance to put it in their face. You know picking Lee shows you that some of their decision making is based solely on the hype as clearly Chorney had the better freshman season on D. I doubt many of them even saw a Sioux game. sioux7
Stay on course ladies and gentleman. Thats pinnup material for the Sioux this weekend and for the NCAA's.
Siouxdonyms
What a joke. It's pretty funny that they given Brian Elliott the Goaltending Champion award, yet he only makes the All-WCHA 2nd Team. Where individual honors are nice, I'm sure all of our guys would give up all of them and win a Broadmoor Championship or a NCAA Championship. Go Sioux! Siouxdonyms
According to the WCHA site, Issac Reichmuth made the All-Academic team for the Goofers. Late season trade that no one knew about? Oh wait, correction, he is under UMD's list. They just didn't feel UMD deserved a bold or separate position, as it's streamed in with the Goofers. southpaw
a voter from grand forks says the UND athletic dept never gave him his ballot.... he said he would have voted for oshie for roy, and oshie/toews/lee/chorney for rookie team. not sure if that one vote for oshie would have tied things up... but would have been nice. dagies
It would seem the point differential for Kessel and Toews would justify the Tastes Great/Less Filling argument. The experts seem to think they are awfully close.
NDFAN
I'm not sure why Lucia is co-coach of the year. I think that should be debated. I agree with Motzko being coach of the year.

747Guy
Like every other award recognition this is simply a popularity contest. Kessell scores 11 of 33 WCHA points against Anchorage...wow!!! He is awesome! Oshie 8 Game Winners......Kessel a punitive 3. By the way is Kessell going to hold a press conference about his winning the ROY? Yttrium
We got Oshie Yes we do We got Oshie How bout you? The post-season awards are political. No problem. Congrat's to all the Fighting Sioux players who were recognized. Everyone in the country knew Kessel was going to win ROY. It was determined this fall by the pre-season polls. Awards are special. But they should be awarded once the season is over. There's is only one award that is worth having; it's called a team award. Hockey is not an individual sport. Kessel loves the awards with the help of USA Hockey. They spend millions of dollars on the USDP and they have to promote and glorify. He's about him. Our kids are about the name on front of their sweaters and not on back. TEAM. That is all that matters folks. The awards and recognition means nothing w/out team. The McNaughton, Broadmoor and Frozen Four Trophy is what these kids play for. Did Oshie deserve the ROY? In our minds yes and also in 72 others too. What's even worse in Johnny not making All-Rookie. Ask any of our players and they play for one thing, the National Championship. GO FIGHTING SIOUX !!!

If I am not mistaken, the goaltending champion, just like the scoring champion, is not something voted on but is based solely on statistics. Selecting Goepfert over Elliott shows the real story.
