I was wondering if anyone knew why UND decided to wear black jerseys at SCSU? Maybe this is old news, hell I don't even know if this game took place yet or not (but I've been getting a few emails about this), but if there was some clarification to this, I'd appreciate it.

Also, has anyone heard that UND might also wear these jerseys playing the gophers (in MN)? I honestly don't think it would help, thought, after seeing them get spanked this weekend, sheesh..

UND never wore black jerseys at SCSU.

This happened in march of last year, so i'm not sure what the point was why GrahamKracker brought it up.

He doesn't understand the "alternate jersey" concept and apparently doesn't know that UND has worn the alternate black uniforms for years. It has nothing to do with SCSU or the Fighting Sioux nickname.

Yeah I'm kind of lost as to what he thought it had to do with the sioux name, or maybe didn't even think that at all. I just don't understand why this was even brought up?

He must give a "rip" about our team to not know anything. What is he thinking anyways.

Wow........siouxsports looks pretty dead w/o him. "He" should come around more because "they" are pretty bored without his comments....lol.

Someone probably told him that SCSU made UND wear plain black uniforms minus the Sioux name and logo the last time UND played hockey in St. Cloud.

It is amazing how there's almost no interest or discussion about the subject when you're not around. Given that this issue is the moral equivalent to slavery and women's suffrage, I'd think that somone besides you would be interested in it. Apparently not.

You're not a minority, I couldn't possibly expect you to understand.

As for the mascot debate, you're not Sioux, so you couldn't possibly know where I'm coming from.

I understand that you're a minority of a minority, which was really my point.

You have no clue what you are talking about. You should leave siouxsports before you embarrass yourself more. The color of the jersey has nothing to do with the nickname and the play of the hockey team.

So why does it matter if UND wore black jerseys? It's there a reason it matters? What were you looking for by starting this thread? Does the color of the jerseys mean something?

Please explain to us who exactly has been talking alot lately about UND wearing their black jerseys last March. Also please explain how this has anything to do with the Sioux name debate.

I've been watching the debate for a long time from the sidelines. One thing that has struck me is that the proponents of the name change state that the logo and nickname stereotype the Native Americans and Sioux in a derogatory way. They say that it causes others to think about them in a negative way.

On that note, I would think that many would agree that Native Americans in the past have been stereotyped in other negative ways. One being is that those who are racist have occasionally called Native Americans a bunch of gambling drunks. Now I don't condone this type of thinking but am using it to make a point.

Now that is a harsh and negative stereotype against Native Americans and one that I don't condone. Proponents of the name change say that as long as the Sioux logo and nickname are around, there will continue to be negative stereotypes based on the logo and nickname. Well OK, if this is a negative stereotype then why do Native Americans have the Indian name and Indian logos plastered all over casinos. These casinos nowadays are highly synonomous with Native Americans.

So I ask this....isn't the continued use of the Native American name and images on the casinos by Native Americans causing the ongoing stereotype that I mentioned above? If one item (the logo and nickname) cause continued misrepresentations of the Native American community, then isn't the use of casinos doing the same?

I've never heard that argument by the proponents before. I guess it's OK for one negative stereotype to be gotten rid of while the continued stereotyping of another exists. It must be the fact that Native Americans profit directly off the casinos and not the University is why Native Americans are concerned about one stereotype and not another.
