Fighting Sioux #1

The season is underway, You would think RODENT fans would find something better to do then worry about what sioux fans are talking about on a sioux board. OH BY THE WAY, could give 2 shi%s about your recruiting info :silly:

The season is underway.  You would think UND fans could find something to talk about other than the Gophers.  Oh by the way and this is not confirmed yet.  There is a rumor on www.collegehockeyeast.blogspot.com that Sam Gagner has committed to Minnesota.

We tried, but then we found out we were getting too exuberant about our performance against a Canadian college team on Sunday.

To me, that was bigger than winning the Frozen Four.

I mean, c'mon! The Sioux absolutely demolished an entire team of 28-year-old CANADIANS!!! :D:silly::huh:

kessel schmessel

We had ZP and he couldn't take us all the way (one of the best college players I have seen, but it takes more than one)

Here's hoping we get to end the gopher season again this year, AND win the whole thing...

Will kessel have the same problem that ZP had in college? Namely those teams that play tackle football on the ice?

Not to sound like a paranoid Sioux fan or anything, but this just might be the year that the WCHA decides to crack down on obstruction.

Get past it.  Your making this sight like POI in '02-'03.

Two things to note -- this is the only thread I see about Kessel in the first few pages of threads, and about half the posts in it are from Gopher fans.

Discussions about other teams, players, and other items of general interest are ok as long as they remain somewhat self-contained and don't dominate the forum (a guideline applied to all quasi-off-topic threads). If it ever even neared the Zach-mania-POI point where people launched dozens of Kessel threads, through which you would have to sift to find UND-related content, suspensions would come down quick and long.

No doubt there'll be a few d-men who will be burned by him, get frustrated and want to line him up when they get the chance. Kessel will likely be shifting with a designated enforcer ala Gretzky-McSorley/Parise-Greene to protect the Gophers' investment & title hopes. I don't think they'd risk putting a potential #1 pick on the ice without a brute to back him up. As far as tackling goes, I think other teams won't have a choice & will have to clutch & grab many times each game because of his sheer quickness & speed. This is inevitable, imo.

Or, obstruction could be called mostly during Gopher games & forgotten about in others. I guess we'll see if the refs are more susceptible to the Kessel hype than the Parise hype; because we all know that the fanfare preceding Parise's arrival didn't garner him any special attention.

Big factor is fact that Greggy Shepard was just given full-time position as the League's new "Supervisor of Officials." According to the Pioneer Press anyway. Shepard is a St. Paul boy and a big Gopher fan.

Twill be interesting to see what happens with the whistles when Philly Boy is on the ice. All said, this is the WCHA. Just as Zach did not dominate play shift in and shift out, neither will Kesshole. There is plenty of talent in the WCHA who can, and will, play right along with the kid. My opinion anyway.

PCM is half right. I think the WCHA will crack down on obstruction for the first half of the year and then, in January they will stop calling it (and claim everyone learned their lesson) and watch Toews, Kessel, Skille, Statsny, Rau, etc. get mauled.
