SiouxFootballField Posted August 29, 2005 Share Posted August 29, 2005 Going to be making a trip to the Sioux game in October and am looking forward to finally seeing Lennon and boys compete for another run at the championship. My question is tell me what the norm is in/around the Alerus Center on game day. When should some one arrive at the stadium? Is there anything to see on campus before the game? Such things like this for a tourist? thanks and go sioux <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am a tailgater so I arrive hours before kickoff but if that does not float your boat, I would at least show up an hour early to allow time for parking, fighting the crowd, finding seat, etc. If there is one thing you see on campus it is Ralph Engelstad Arena. They do tours M-F at 3 pm and sometimes on Saturdays, if the group is large enough. I would suggest getting as close to the 50 yard line as possible. I wouldn't go any less than the 20 yard line. An underrated seat is standing on the catwalk behind each endzone. Very interesting sight line to the game, especially when the ball is in your end. After the game, DAGWOODS! dakotadan Posted August 30, 2005 Share Posted August 30, 2005 This will be my first year not being in the Pride so it is also my first actual chance to tailgate, besides marching through it. Are there any rules to know? No glass bottles, etc.? Does the lot open at a certain time? Is it easy to find parking in the tailgate area? I am bringing some friends of mine to their first Sioux FB game. I am just as excited to actually experience my first Sioux tailgate party!! I guess I wont be drinking any Sioux juice till 10.31.I know Sucka will be around and be sure to bring Jimmy. After the game I'll stop in the Red Pepper for a quick bite to eat. Then, on my way out of town I usually pick up a couple grinder kits from the Red Pepper. A visit to GF without it would be a sin! Thanks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Unfortunately, the beer gardens are on the concourse and you cannot see the game while drinking (stuupid in my opinion) There are tv's with an in house feed though showing the game. This area will be packed at halftime. The catwalk is fun when the ball is on your end, but when it's on the other end you should probably head to the fore-mentioned beer garden. Most groups set up South of the Alerus for tailgaiting. This is where the band and team will walk through. There will be plenty of people there so if you do just want to walk around and tailgate people will invite you right in. After the game few people stick around in the lot. Most get out as quick as possible. Head to Dagwoods to catch a heavily football attended crowd. You will catch coaches there and UND administration. Head to Rumors at the Grand Cities Mall (formerly South Forks Plaza, located at the intersection of Washington St. and 17th Ave.) later in the night to catch most of the players parents and younger football fans. You can always head to the El Roco later on to dance with those that are left standing. For a quieter, more elegant post-game head to Suite 49 (next to REA), or any other restaurant in town. Most restaurants will be pretty full before and after the game. There may be a wait. My advice, if you are with the family, would be to hustle over to the Green Mill. It will fill up quickly. Diggler Posted August 31, 2005 Share Posted August 31, 2005 The players/coaches/band come through at about 11 from the south end. Dagwoods is about 1/2 north of the Alerus on 32nd Avenue. It could be very, very loud and probably will be for at least a portion of the game. Once it gets out of hand though with the Sioux pounding whoever they are playing, it'll probably quiet down a bit. Usually Bollinger and other coaches will stop in. Then later on football coaches may or may not come in. Students usually head back to party for a while. When I was a student here was my normal game day: 9:00 am sluggishly fall out of bed from the coaxing of some buddies. Lay on couch and watch College GameDay. 10:00 am make was to Alerus parking lot and start drinking. Usually just find people and eat whatever they have. (if you don't know people there someone will still invite you in probably) Take down a few sioux bombs (green grapes soaked in everclear or vodka) and check out the ladies 1:05 stumble in to the building yelling and cheering 1:08 go to the bathroom 1:10 take my spot in the first row behind the opposing teams bench and start yelling halftime: head to the beer garden and chug a beer (cannot leave building, did so successfully only one time) Second half: continue heckling Post game: jump in car (strategically parked in the very North East area of the North Lot) and peel out (I'm not driving) and make way to Dagwoods. 6:00: Order some pizza or drummies at Dagwoods. 10:30: Head to El Roco, Rumors, or one of the many parties on around town Sunday: wish the football team had been out of town yesterday...oh and watch the Vikes win!
