Fetch
So do you think size & physical ability trumps skill, as a defenseman ? (I like big tough guys in those roles - especially when we play the Goophers ) - But do they always mean better odds of winning ? & do the better skilled Athletes naturally gravitate towards forward positions ? (In General) ?

(In General) ? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think it is impossible to say that a Matt Greene is better then a Travis Zajac. They both do things that greatly help the team. Matt Greene is the big hitter and rarely gives up a goal while hes on the ice. Zajac, while good defensively, does the scoring and sets up plays. When you ask if the better skilled athletes are forwards, i think it is what you call "skill" that determines that. If skill for you is a fast guy who can stickhandle like crazy, than I would have to say that a forward is more skilled. But if skilled is being strong on your skates and physically imposing on the other team, i would have to say that a defenseman is more skilled. I don't think there is any way you could compare a good forward to a good defenseman as they are both expected to have different attributes. crosby_87
Adding to that yes i do believe that the better skiled athletes generally end up as forwards because usually the skilled ones(in my view) are the quick ones who can stickhandle...although there are exceptions(brian lee). Greyeagle
I was at a coaches clinic where a guy said put your best hockey player at defense and your best athlete in the net.
#1Hakfan
I think that in the 80's and 90's everyone put there best players at center. Then the Mid 90's to today coaches realized that if they play Defensemen they will be on the Ice more and that is why you see so many smaller defensemen these days and more skilled defensemen. But off course you still have the BIG tough guys, you need a mixture of both I think.

The Sicatoka
Q: "What positions do the best athletes end up in?" On top, .... or underneath, behind, standing, that kind of side-by-side thing .... huh? What's that you say? Oops, sorry, misunderstood the question. The Sicatoka
What? On top, like a wrestling pin. Or underneath the pile with the football. Or behind their defenders on a hockey breakaway. Or standing over your knocked-out opponent in boxing. Or that kind of side-by-side thing in pairs figure skating spins. I just realized they meant what hockey skating position, like forward, defense, or goalie. What were you thinking about.

The Sicatoka
Ol' Obi-Wan better just worry about the fool that followed him and then came and vaporized his Jedi "hind-end". I've been told that PCM played defense. I guess that's the answer to the question of this thread.
