Charlie Stramel to Michigan State, Isaac Howard to Michigan State, and Matthew Wood to Minnesota are all first round picks in recent years to transfer. It depends what you consider a blue blood. Sacha definitely came from and went to a blue blood.

Does anyone know if the Friendship Four games count toward the NPI? They wouldn't if they were considered exhibition games but I don't know if they were considered exhibition.

Wisco is the weird case I think you can have an argument about them being one but they’ve been so down the past few years before Hastings I would say they aren’t considered. (Nit picking tho)

 

I guess the point being is players rarely leave a good development situation to go to one that’s of the same level so it’s just interesting to see how it plays out

Michigan State going from 2009 to 2023 with only one tournament appearance destroyed any chance of them being a blue blood for a long time. Wisconsin has enough natties to be forgiven for some down years of late.

Ran into Bob Motzko and a few of the Gophers players at the convenience store I frequent in Columbus about an hour ago (Minnesota in town to play Ohio State).

Wished Motzko the best of luck coaching the US at World Junior this month, said I was surprised that Zellers didn’t make Final Evaluation Camp Roster, Motzko said “He just barely missed”. Also thanked him for developing Rinzel (& Moore as he pointed out) very nicely for my Blackhawks.

Is it true most hockey fans in Columbus root for teams other than the Blue Jackets? I.e. Red Wings, Blackhawks, Penguins, etc.? Beer league teammate from there said something to that effect.

I grew up in Northwest Indiana, about an hour southeast of Chicago, hence my Blackhawks fandom. Only been in Columbus since 2021. I like going to Blue Jackets games, cheap & fun.

The younger generation and true Ohio born & bred people are most definitely Blue Jackets fans, but there are tons of transplants here, more than you'd think. Columbus being a growing city in the center of the state attracts a ton regionally, plus the number of out of state Ohio State students who stay here for jobs post graduation.

Lots of Northwest Ohio/Southeast Michigan transplants who are Red Wings fans and Eastern Ohio/Western Pennsylvania transplants who are Penguins fans here.

Are hockey tickets free for students at OSU? The revenue from student tickets can't outweigh the benefits of making them free, or like $5.  Their capacity would allow it.
