If not for Mbereko, especially what he did in the first period to keep it a scoreless tie. DU outshot CC something like, 14-2. Naturally, that goon Caponi with another high hit on a vulnerable player, Veremyev. God, I can’t stand that guy. Quote
brianvf Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Outshot 14-2 in a period? Dang, I hope UND never lays an egg like that in a playoff game. Ha! Seemed odd that Veremyev went over to the boards to taunt the DU fans instead of celebrating with his teammates on CC’s 2nd goal. Just a weird move. Quote

Veremyev’s name kept getting called throughout the entire game, for better or worse. He’s very aggressive and likes to chirp. Did anyone see the Caponi hit on Veremyev? It happened with about 8 minutes left in the second period. Veremyev skated from behind the net with the puck and was going to throw a backhand on net and he had his head down and Caponi skated in and tee’d him up with a big check. Veremyev laid on the ice for a good minute or more before Mbereko was able to freeze the puck. After the period ended, Mayotte challenged for a major penalty and the refs reviewed it but determined there was no head contact. Couple things. One, in my biased opinion, that hit was up high on Veremyv’s chin area. I think it was a penalty. If it were any other Denver player who laid the hit, I could give them the benefit of the doubt. However, given it was Connor Caponi, I can only assume he targeted a vulnerable player because that’s his game, he’s done it time and again. I haven’t seen a guy who aims to hurt people that much since Joey Abate from Omaha. I’d be curious what you all think given you don’t have the bias of being CC fans. Was it a legal check? Or should a 5 and a game have been called? Quote
Tbone Posted March 15 Posted March 15 You mentioned the eight minute mark when the incident happened, how do you challenge at the end of the period? Doesn’t the coach have to challenge the play on the ice at the next whistle? Quote

I thought it was more of a high hit then the Omaha player dying in the corner Quote
