Contributing at the plate: UND pitchers accounted for 4 hits, 9 runs (4 runs + 5 RBIs), including 3 HRs on the weekend for the Hawks who are now 3-2. They took wins from two league champions in the process.  All in all a good first outing.

Question of the day: Should UND softball get cut? Each season, they play 10 home games (weather permitting, so usually less), and fly thousands of miles all over the country in order to play games, and have not been very successful (this season 6-13 so far). They can't be bringing in that much money and are spending tons more than they make. I know it may be a Title IX issue... perhaps bring women's hockey back? At least fans will get a chance to watch them and less travel will occur.

"perhaps bring women's hockey back"...yah.  Lets add 5X the cost to our athletic department budget and bring back WH.  Wut?

Just throwing it out there! Or find another women's sport instead.

Women’s hockey didn’t have great attendance and cost more money.

The issue with this is that when UND joined the Summit, they agreed to a set number of sports that they would play for 8 years in league play.  I would assume SB was one of the sports.  If they were to cut it, they would have to pay a penalty (they had to pay a penalty when they cut Swim and Diving because UND had agreed that Swim and Dive would be playing in the Summit before cutting it.)

UND shouldn't dance with Title IX anymore.  Just stick with the 16 that you have.

Considering that there is still a lawsuit with the former women's hockey players (now in 8th District US Court of Appeals).  That bridge has been burned, charred and its ashes stepped on for that sport to come back.... ever.

Haven't ran the 2017/18 numbers but in 2016/17, the "net cost" for softball was $630K and had 24 participants with only 11.4 scholarships. So that "cost" is before the equivalence of 12 indivdiuals paid tuition that likely would not happen without that program. Cost before that figured in was $29.6k/participant.

The "net cost" for WIH was $1.9 million and had 26 participants with 18.5 scholarships, so the equivalenence of 7.5 individuals paying tuition. Cost before that figured in was $71.8K/participant.

Travel costs was $226K for WIH and $210K for softball. And that was when SB was in the Big Sky, their in-confernece travel costs should be down with the move.
