WCHA Final Five Semi-Finals Coverage

The "Minnesota Rule" is bad enough (Gophers always play in the night semi-final); but according to the following link, Fox Sports North isn't covering the other semi-final.

They will cover the third place game however. :glare:

If they are covering the Friday night semi-final and the Thursday play-in game, why don't they turn on the cameras Friday afternoon?

People will survive missing this "hot" Friday afternoon line-up:

2:00 PM NBA Action '03-'04

2:30 PM Big 12 Showcase '03-'04

3:00 PM On Campus '03-'04

3:30 PM 54321

4:00 PM Spinks vs Mayorga at Boardwalk Hall (rerun from Sunday night)

Politely let them know what you think here:

What the heck, tell the league officials too (from the WCHA website):

bmcleod@du.edu

clabelle@du.edu

gshepherd@mailstation.com

dspencer@mailbag.com

Let's make some noise.

That is because the Gophers will be playing then.;):)

Even though I will be at the Final Five, I have sent a message to Fox Sports Net, it may help, it may not, but either way, I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

I will also be at the games but it s#@#s that the fans that can't make won't be able to see the game. I sent an e-mail to Fox as well.

Where are we going to celebrate after we win Friday afternoon?:glare:

Diggler, ask the simple questions:

You show Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday afternoon, and Saturday night.

Why leave out one of The Five, a SEMI-FINAL, on Friday afternoon? The cameras are already in place (see Thursday night and Friday night). Flip the switch. Give the viewers live programming of teams playing for a championship and an NCAA slot.

Show all five at The Five.

From Doug Spencer of the WCHA:

Thanks for your note... we have not televised the Friday afternoon game in

recent years as Fox has had numerous commitments during that block of

time... there is an opportunity, however, for the two competing schools in

that game to work out a TV feed of the game - that will be up to them.

Doug.

How can you work out a tv deal with a non-existing opponent? If they do work something out, i sure hope that it is broadcast state-wide instead of just in Grand Forks.

Showing boxing reruns and the same crappy daytime programming is commintments? Please. Those aren't commitments, those are just filler. FSN doesn't have sh^t on for programming during the daytime, ever. All they have is crappy half-hour shows and women's BB reruns. :glare:

I also sent a message to the WCHA commisioners and Fox Sports but no word yet.

Also sent a message to WDAZ asking if they know if anyone has picked up the Friday afternoon broadcast rights.

Got a response from Pat Sweeney who said that he doesn't know of anyone picking up the broadcase rights yet.

Hopefully WDAZ/WDAY or the Fighting Sioux Sports Network pick up the rights.

It is just sad that they whole Final Five is geared toward Minnesota teams. I understand why they play at night due to the big draw in the area. I do understand their logic but it stinks for fans from UND, wisconsin, or any other state. If you have to work on thursday or friday you have no chance at making any of the games thursday or friday at the X. However, if you are a minnesota fan you have your choice to work all day and drive across town to the game; or go to work and pick up the broadcast from your couch and save yourself some money. If you want to catch the game live; you just take off from work an hour before gametime.

I guess my point is this; if fox sports net isn't going to broadcast the afternoon games why not let the SiouxSportsChannel or any other network pick the game up if they wish. Screw the contracts, lets focus on what is best for wcha college hockey and its fans.
