Especially at a small school like Wake Forest, hockey could help the school attract students from northern states. The hockey arena at the local fairgrounds is suitable, and it's directly adjacent to their other sports arenas/statdiums. That would probably give reason for Liberty to make the jump as well. It's Wake Forest home arena. They have had NC State, North Carolina, and High Point home games there. I'm positive another school in the area plays there also. Quote
cberkas Posted July 31 Author Posted July 31 With the sale of the Utah Grizzlies and the new owners wanting to move them to Trenton, NJ. The Maverik Center is getting an update and will be empty after next year. Not a bad arena for the schools in Salt Lake City Metro with Utah being the closest to West Valley City. If the light rail went to Provo or Ogden that could be a way to get students from UVU, BYU, and Weber State there. It will be interesting to see what will happen to the Maverik Center in the next few years Quote

SiouxFan100 Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Sure would be nice to get more hockey schools. The momentum seems to be going in the right direction. Quote

The closest school to the Maverik center is U of U, and it's about 30 minutes away. UVU plays their club games in the Peaks Ice arena, in Provo, which was (and will be) used for the Olympics. Weber State plays in the Olympic Curling venue. U of U plays their games close to campus. Quote
nodak651 Posted Thursday at 11:02 PM Posted Thursday at 11:02 PM Utah is replacing their bb arena. Hopefully the new arena can make ice. 1 Quote

I expect Maverik Center and Delta Center for hockey but wouldn't be surprised in Provo. The U of U arena has the VA Hospital on one side and Utes athletics on the other sides. Weber State arena I thought could be expanded, but saw they built it on a hillside. Quote

My hope is that it includes an ice sheet so it can be used in the olympics. Does the olympic committee help pay for any new facilities thatvare used? Quote

Have no idea, but they did set aside $900 million for the Mammoth and $900 million for an MLB team. So, who knows what the State would do if a school wanted to build an arena to be used for the Olympics. The new Utah arena is going to be 8k from 15k because they can't fill it unless it the Red Rocks (gymnastics team). Utah, Utah State, and Weber have old, outdated basketball arenas. I'd like to see these schools get new multipurpose arenas and add hockey and hopefully the NHL being in Salt Lake City helps that. But one can dream lol. Quote
