How we compare so far to last year:

2014: BSC rankings

Highest scoring offense: Eastern Washington 49.7    (UND 13.0 ranked 11th)

Lowest scoring defense: Northern Colorado 13.0 ( UND 27.5 ranked 4th)

Total Offense: EWU 593.3 (UND 256.0 ranked last)

Total Defense Montana 287 (UND 384.5 ranked 4th)

2013:

Scoring Offense: EWU 39.5 (UND 23.8 ranked 7th)

Scoring Defense: Cal Poly 21.6 ( UND 33.7 ranked 12th)

Total Offense: PSU 540.5 (UND 365.1 ranked 9th)

Total Defense: NAU 348.3 (UND 426.5 ranked 8th)

So far looks like lots of work for the offense, and defense is playing a lot better. Its tough to see improvement through 2 games but this is a good start for the defense.

we could possibly be the worst offense if the FCS?

if you measure by those 3 stats, assuming other schools might specialize is passing, or rushing.......day by day, I guess we need to have some patients. It is a tough wait.

Those 3 stats proves through 3 games, we can't pass, we can't run, and we can't score. Something has to be done to start moving up on the rankings. I think Bubba knows this and will try to correct it with the limited sources he has available.

Offense getting worse, Defense getting better (at least compared to last year).

My last stats post should say out of 121 teams not 113 teams.

Will Rattelle is off to a great start to this year, as is Taj Rich. Since we haven't had any good LB play since Hendrickson was a senior I figured I'd highlight the benchmarks of what really good LBs have done in the past. In 11 games his senior year, Hendrickson posted 75 tackles with an impressive 60 solos and 7.5 tfl. The UND record is 66 solos stops by Digger in 2003. With 185 total tackles in 1990 Dean Witkowski has a record that will never be touched, he also posted a 55 solo tackle season in 1989. Rattelle and Rich have 19 and 11 solos respectively and 47 and 41 total. Both are on pace to crack the top ten in solos. To crack the top ten in total tackles would require over 105... I won't hold my breath on that since most guys on that list played in the 80s.

Through Week 5

Passing Offense:  105th 132.8 yds/g

Rushing Offense: 113th  90.4 yds/g

Scoring Offense: 112th 11.4 pts/g

Passing Defense: 52nd 198.6 yds/g

Scoring Defense: t53rd 25.0 pts/g

Sacks per game: t41st 2.20

First downs: 110th 51

Here is a stat that should make Bubba happy....Fumbles recovered:  tied for 2nd in the FCS with 9.  Last year UND was tied for 120 (out of 122 non-reclassifying teams) with 4.

I think Montana is better than MSU(maybe a lot better). Being realistic, what are the chances we could stay within 20?

I may be putting too much stock into the result of one game, but if USD can stay within eight points of Montana on the road, I'd like to think UND has the ability to stay within 10 or 14 at home, barring a slew of turnovers by the offense.
