darell1976
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24466479/report-nfl-exploring-43-yard-extra-point-for-2014-preseason Back in January, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said the league was exploring the possibility of someday eliminating extra points. "The extra point is almost automatic. I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd," Goodell said at the time. "So it's a very small fraction of the play, and you want to add excitement with every play." One way to add excitement to the extra point is to make the kick longer and that's exactly what the competition committee is discussing. According to NFL.com, the league is in the very early stages of a discussion that could lead to extra points being moved back from the 2-yard line to the 25-yard-line for the 2014 preseason. That would make the kick a 43-yard attempt instead of a 20-yard attempt. "There is no consensus yet," a competition committee member told NFL.com. "We could experiment in preseason, but we are not there yet." If you're wondering how automatic extra points have become, NFL kickers hit 1,262 out of 1,267 extra points in 2013. That's a 99.6 percent conversion rate. I think Goodell will eliminate the kicker position before the decade is over. Pretty sad!!
farce poobah
I think whoever scores the touch should have to kick the point.
Wilbur
I like the automatic seven points, unless you go for two and then its 8 or 6 points idea. Extra points are lame. Though I was at a Vikings game where their kicker missed two of them and cost the Vikes the game.
Snake
http://www.cbssports...-2014-preseason I think Goodell will eliminate the kicker position before the decade is over. Pretty sad!! I'm not sure how moving the extra point back to a 43 yard attempt will effectively eliminate kickers. Now, eliminating kickoffs and going to the automatic 7 would do just that. The option in the article posted above would actually make the kicker's job more important.

Goodell wanted to eliminate kickoffs, now he is not fond of extra points, one thought was a TD was 7, going for the 1 point conversion (not 2 points) make it and it's 8 total, miss and it's 6 total. He is changing football and it may not be for the better. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/20/roger-goodell-nfl-will-explore-eliminating-the-extra-point/ http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/story?storyId=8720551&src=desktop&wjb

The article you linked was evidence of a potential change that would make the kicker more relevant. I don't necessarily agree with moving the XP back, but it's pretty much a gimme so I can see why they want to do something different. I don't like the fact that moving the extra point back to the 25 would virtually eliminate the chance for a botched extra point to turn into a two-point conversion. Also, the threat of a Fake XP two-point conversion play may be reduced. I definitely don't want to see kickoffs eliminated...that would be foolish. It's FOOTball!
