PCM Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 (edited) This is going to be a quickie because I have other stuff to get done. Please excuse any errors that slip through. Tim Hennessy and Scott Swygman are the hosts with UND assistant coach Brad Berry. Berry is filling in for Blais, who's on a bus with the team headed for Superior, Wisconsin. They'll be staying overnight there and driving to Houghton on Thursday. Berry will be scouting three USHL games this weekend. Berry said the team had a good practice today before it left. They were passing the puck very well. The trip to Houghon is not bad when you travel out over two days, but the Saturday night trip home is a killer. Tim talked about coming back once with the officials on the bus. A caller asked how the Canadians at the WJC tournament had a goalie who plays for Pittsburgh in the NHL. Tim pointed out that some of the US players were also in the pros. Berry said they have eligibility standards that the players have to meet. A caller asked for Berry's honest assesment of WCHA officiating. The caller said it seemed like the skill players take a lot of stick work and always have to play through obstruction. Berry said there were a number of factors he couldn't comment on. Overall, it as to do with accountability. In the NHL and pro leagues, that Edited January 15, 2004 by PCM Quote
schmidtdoggydog Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 Great info! Thanks for taking the time to post the recap especially considering you had other things to tend to. Quote
farce poobah Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 Great recap. Thanks again. Your quickies are better than most guys' longies. Or so I hear. Quote
PCM Posted January 15, 2004 Author Posted January 15, 2004 Your quickies are better than most guys' longies. Or so I hear. It tough to keep those things secret. Quote
TheSiouxFan Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 Blocking shots this year has definitely helped win a few games. I started to call Bochenski, B.Bo is correlation to Jeff Boschee, and it to has seemed to have been picked up, at least by those around me. Quote
forecheck Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 A caller with a very familiar voice asked who didn't make the trip to Houghton. Not me, if that's who you're referring to. I didn't think there would be any hockey coaches on tonight since the team left last night for Michigan. Thanks for posting it. Quote
PCM Posted January 15, 2004 Author Posted January 15, 2004 Not me, if that's who you're referring to. Unless you've been taking steroids and pumping iron, I didn't think it was you. Quote
Taz Boy Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 Thanks PCM. I really enjoy reading your recaps. It breaks up the monotony of searching for free porn on the web. ...did I just say that? Quote
PCM Posted January 15, 2004 Author Posted January 15, 2004 Is Berry flying there? No, he's going to be on the road scouting USHL games this weekednd. Quote
schmidtdoggydog Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 No, he's going to be on the road scouting USHL games this weekednd. Any idea who they are looking at from the USHL? Quote
PCM Posted January 15, 2004 Author Posted January 15, 2004 Any idea who they are looking at from the USHL? Hennessy tried to get some of that information out of Berry, but he wasn't inclined to talk about it. He did way the he was going to a Lincoln Stars game and that Phil Lamoureux was the only USHL player currently committed to attending UND. That's about it. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 Knowing the show is being beamed right to Don Lucia's recorders , saying nothing is the best move by Berry. Quote

I recall a comment earlier this season that UND was possibly looking at a European. I wonder if that is Spirko who is second in the USHL in scoring? Quote
StarzUND Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 Lincoln plays TC this weekend, so that would be the perfect opportunty to watch both of them play. How ever I've heard Spirko broke his nose in a game Vs River city, so not sure how effective he'll be or if he'll play. I'm assuming he will with a full cage. Quote
TheSiouxFan Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 I like the fact that Spirko leads the top scorers in goals to shots percentage. Quote
redwing77 Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 You don't really need a sense of smell to play hockey! However, being that his nose is a mite crooked, let's hope he is not Toucan Sam! Quote

MinnesotaNorthStar Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 Could I ask you a question? What the hell are you talking about? I concur...what does a broken nose have to do with Fuit Loops? Quote
StarzUND Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 I think they are talking about having a big nose, Toucan Sam has a big beak and how he'd look if it was big and crooked. Or something to that effect. Quote
redwing77 Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 You guys don't remember Fruit Loops and Toucan Sam's slogan. "Just Follow your nose." I believe Melrose describes good hockey instincts as having a good "nose for the game." I think my humor is far to abstract. I should just quote of Adam Sandler and Jim Carey. Quote
Fedorov Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 I believe Melrose describes good hockey instincts as having a good "nose for the game." And to think in the other thread, people thought it was bad to quote a wrestler. Quote
redwing77 Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 And to think in the other thread, people thought it was bad to quote a wrestler. Maybe so, but Melrose is, in one way or another, connected to Hockey, therefore my reference isn't as bad as Ric Flair. Quote
