Smoggy Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 On Friday I went to visit a friend an hour away. Stupid me, I didn't pack anything even though fires were about 10 miles away. On Sunday, I found out a new fire (arson) was right in the mountains near my apartment. I had to drive back the long way, because the freeways are closed. I got to my apartment and packed a few things. I had a brief thought of staying, and then I noticed the mountain (I live on one) behind me was on fire and coming closer. I just came back Tuesday at about 11 am. It's night out here. It's like a war is going on. There is soot and ash everywhere. The fire burned some buildings two blocks from my apartment. Currently it has moved farther east, but who knows what will happen. So I leave the flooding of the RRV and come to fires out west. I've been through tornados and a minor earthquake. All I have left to cross off my list is a hurricane and being attacked by godzilla. If you hear things on the news about San Bernardino, think of me. I also ask that you keep the people out here in your prayers. Quote
Bleed Green Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 Good Luck out there . . . I've got family out by there close to L.A. that haven't been evacuated . . . yet. God Speed. Quote
dagies Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 Take care and don't push your luck. Maybe we should send Sprig out to fight the fires. Quote
YaneA Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 My prayers are with the people of California. How much more can they take? First, Schwarzenegger, now this! But, seriously: stay safe. Quote
sprig Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 Maybe we should send Sprig out to fight the fires. No thanks, no structure protection for me. Anyway, CA has so many fire resources nearby that they don't have room for any ND fire crew. Hope you're all safe out there. Quote
Sioux Fan Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 Good luck to you. We had the Hayman fire out here (Colorado) last year. Not fun stuff. I still don't understand these people that don't get that when it's dry it's probably not a good idea to be playing with FIRE!!! Then they're suprised when it gets outa control. Hang in there and stay safe. Quote
ScottM Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 So I leave the flooding of the RRV and come to fires out west. I've been through tornados and a minor earthquake. All I have left to cross off my list is a hurricane and being attacked by godzilla. God must really have it in for you. Oh, and you forgot "IRS audit" on your list. Seriously, take care and stay safe. We need all the support we can get to keep the Sioux Empire thriving on the coast. Quote
Smoggy Posted October 28, 2003 Author Posted October 28, 2003 I should mention for those that are curious, these fires are all about 60 miles from LA. Of course it is all one big city. San Diego is fighting a much tougher battle. Quote
UMDDogz Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 My mom lives in San Dimas, which is very close to San Bernardino. She has not been told to evacuate yet though. Hopefully they will get them under control soon! Quote
dagies Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 My mom lives in San Dimas, Dude, your Mom's HOT! (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure) Quote
sioux fan in phoenix Posted October 28, 2003 Posted October 28, 2003 I sometimes lose perspective during hockey season, but you'll definitely be in our family's prayers... Any idea how it started? Sounds like the one we had in southern AZ last year where 2 people (one a fireman) started 2 separate fires that merged into one... Quote
Smoggy Posted October 28, 2003 Author Posted October 28, 2003 Same thing is happening here. Fires are just merging and becoming bigger and bigger. I heard at one point that the one in San Diego was over 100,000 acres. Haven't heard on how they started. Supposedly someone saw people throw something out of a white van that started mine. If this is true, THEN WHY DIDN"T THESE PEOPLE PUT IT OUT! Quote
UMDDogz Posted October 31, 2003 Posted October 31, 2003 Mom just called me last night to report that the fires near her house were put out. What a relief!! Quote

UMDDogz Posted October 31, 2003 Posted October 31, 2003 Interestingly enough, my Mom has never even seen those movies. I thought it would be a prerequisite for living in San Dimas. I bet she doesn't even know who "Soh-kraytes" is!! Quote
