MplsBison
I am not opposed to having the NDSU/UND games played in Fargo and Grand Forks. I just think it gives both schools a chance to give both of their large Mpls fan bases an easy way to get to a game. Because we all know that not every Mpls alumni can afford to come up to ND to see one. And ND fans have no basis to complain as they will get 5-6 home games in ND to see. I've covered all the angles. Nothing anyone can possibly say. This game is good to go.
siouxhockeyfan11
I like the idea i think it would be a lot of fun and I am a und student living in grand forks...i'd road trip to the game for sure and make a fun weekend out of it going to the mall, stop at the casino stay at a cheap hotel with some friends and have a couple beers. and the idea of it being on fsn would be great for both schools and i'd have to think that they players would like the idea of being on tv especially to the ones from minnesota who's family and friends could watch them on tv. The thing with the metrodome is they would take a small cut because there will be relatively nothing going on there anymore if the place is still operational when the rivalry resumes. MplsBison
I know the Metrodome would be cool with it. A 60k college football sell? And they'd probably get a decent amount of money for concession. Easily good to go. The only question really is if the Metrodome is still around in 09 or will they have started tearing it down to build a new Viks stadium? tnt
Regardless whether this idea has merit or not, it does point out the need that whether in Grand Forks or Fargo, both stadiums would now be woefully shy of seats needed for the game, especially because of the absence of the rivalry. I don't know how many people would like to go to this game, but the Bison sell out now for some less than attractive opponents, so how many people would attend the resumption of the series is a legitimate question. Absolutely. I can't imagine how many would want to go to a NDSU/UND game when both are DI national title contenders. Could be looking at 30k ticket demand even for a game in Fargo or Grand Forks. I don't think there is a stadium in the state that has that kind of capacity. And it's just not fair to try to squeeze it into the Fargodome or the Alerus. I can fly into Minne for half as much as it takes to get to GF or Fargo.

MplsBison
Believe me, this is not some BS that I pulled out of my ass. Chapman knows full well and good that 30k NDSU fans will show up at the Metrodome to see a game. I don't think that possibility is lost on Kelley either. If this has a chance, Chapman and Kelley will be the ones making it happen!
4mcrue
I'll be satisified with the next couple of games being played in Fargo IMO, whenever it starts again. We won't be going to the machine shed for a few years.
Shawn-O
The idea has merit, but the fact of the matter is that the teammakers have bought Taylor, so I don't see it happening on his watch.
bincitysioux
I think it is a dumb idea. The Fargodome is full now on Saturdays. Within two years the Alerus Center will be full on Saturdays. I could really care less if the two schools ever play again. They've both proven they don't need each other. Having said that, if it does happen, I of course will be there, in Fargo, which is where the first game will be. Not because it is Sioux-Bison and I'm desperate to see it like Mplsbison, but because it would be a close road game, just like I've gone to St. Cloud and Vermillion. As far as how many people would show up, ~60,000 is preposterous. There is ~21,000 UND alums in Minnesota , and I'd assume about the same number for NDSU. If a Sioux-Bison game in the TC drew between 15,000-20,000 I'd be amazingly impressed. And if I were frothing to see the rivalry renewed............... I just think it gives both schools a chance to give both of their large Mpls fan bases an easy way to get to a game. Because we all know that not every Mpls alumni can afford to come up to ND to see one. And ND fans have no basis to complain as they will get 5-6 home games in ND to see. ......Why would someone like me, who pays FSC dues, pays for 4 season tickets, drives 100 miles every Saturday to see all the home games, be in favor of giving "fair-weather" TC fans the opportunity to see a game? So, yes, alot of people, both UND fans and NDSU fans would have basis to complain. It really doesn't matter though, because I doubt this would ever happen. Would the M-dome be interested in filling an open date with a potential crowd of 40-50K and would a FSN be intersted in televising it just BECAUSE of the interest it generates despite the fact it doesn't involve a Minnesota school? HELL YES! They have to look for new opportunities too..this is a VERY interesting idea! I'll say it...GOOD (and productive) idea MplsBison! However, 40K might be possible. I think you are underestimating the amount of people that would attend such an event. It wouldn't just be UND/NDSU alumni attending. It would generate a lot of interest from any sports fan with North Dakota roots. It would never be the Texas/OU shootout but it could turn into something special. IMO, most fans can't wait for this rivalry to get started again. I have only been to one football game since I graduated and that was the NC game in Alabama where we lost to GVSU. I would most definitely make the trip for the Sioux/Bison game no matter where it is played.
MplsBison
The Fargodome is full now on Saturdays. Within two years the Alerus Center will be full on Saturdays. ... They've both proven they don't need each other. You are correct. Both schools will do very well even if they never played each other again. IE, they don't need to play each other in order to do well. Just like: you and I don't need to accept a bonus from our respective boss's in order to have good incomes. We both have good saleries. There is no need to take something extra on the top. But why not? Why shouldn't we take a bonus for a job well done? Why shouldn't NDSU and UND play each other to a guaranteed sold out game? The fact that both NDSU and UND can sell out their respective stadiums for different opponents will never be an argument for turning down a guaranteed sellout between the two teams. It will never work. No matter how hard you pathetic, bitter children try to push it. I for one, simply won't allow that to happen. As far as how many people would show up, ~60,000 is preposterous. There is ~21,000 UND alums in Minnesota , and I'd assume about the same number for NDSU. If a Sioux-Bison game in the TC drew between 15,000-20,000 I'd be amazingly impressed. I won't allow your petty, pathetic, bitter childness cloud the facts. NDSU fans bought 30k tickets to watch the last Gopher game in the Metrodome. And UND has more living alumni in the Mpls area than NDSU does (not by much). With Fargo being a 4 hr all interstate drive from Mpls and GF being a 5 hr all interstate drive from Mpls: GUARANTEED THIS GAME WOULD SELL 60k TICKETS. And that's just all there is to it! Nothing you can say! Because I won't allow it!!!

MplsBison
I agree 60K is preposterous. However, 40K might be possible. Again, look at the facts: - 30k NDSU fans at the last NDSU/U of MN game. - more living UND alumni in Mpls area than NDSU - both Fargo and GF are reasonable interstate drives from Mpls Maybe 50k is a more conservative number that would be used for planning and TV negotiations. But I stand by 60k actual attendance. If nothing else, consider if any current student of NDSU or UND were let into the game for free as long as they had a current NDSU or UND student ID card, that alone would likely be 10k right there. NDSUFREAK10
no, mplsbison, another stupid and idiotic idea from you. there is no reason for 2 ND schools to go to MN and play a football game...if the alumni there really want to see the game, they will drive 3 hours this way rather than us going there... redwing77
That's BS. You guys are going to get to see your teams the other 5-6 home games in Fargo and Grand Forks each. How about all the alumni in Mpls who can't make it up for a game? Why not give them an opportunity? The neat thing about this is that it gives the alumni the pick of the stadium. Talk about almost ZERO student presence. Not many UND students are able to get down there for the UMN vs. UND hockey series, so what makes you think they'd be able to do it for this ONE game! Well, at least it will truly be a family atmosphere. Not many students at all. Simply mind-blowing how retarded this idea is. Why do we hold these games? If it is just for the alumni, then why not advertise it as such? Eliminate the student sections completely, give no student discount either. Then students will have to pay for it just like everyone else and therefore, be just as important as everyone else? Once again, $$$ talks, reasonable thought walks. Not if the Fargodome and Alerus can't handle the demand. And last I checked, neither can handle 60k. Game will be in the Metrodome. Bank on it. And I could care less if you throw a little temper tantrum. Go in your corner, little baby.

You're telling me UND students wouldn't drive 5 hours on the interstate ON A WEEKEND? Nice try! What a pathetic joke. That's your best to try and stop this game?! Please explain then how it works in Dallas for the Red River shootout Redwing? That certainly doesn't make for a borring atmosphere. The one thing it has going for it is that it is right in the middle of the Texas State fair but I bet there would be just as many students/people at that game with or without the fair. The fair needs that game more than the game needs the fair.

That's your best to try and stop this game?! Easily, NDSU and UND students will make up at least 10k of the attendance. 15k is not unreasonable. Nope. My initial argument is my rationale for stopping this game. Who benefits from this location financially? At the gates, NDSU and UND would most undoubtedly split the take. Merchandise sales would probably dealt with according to school and third party arrangements. What about concessions? The thing about the boost to the local economy (the money spent in town by visitors including restaurants, hotels, etc.) is that it helps Farg... it helps Gra.... Oh wait. IT HELPS NEITHER FARGO OR GRAND FORKS FINANCIALLY AND THOSE TWO CITIES ARE MAJOR FUNDERS FOR THE G-DARN UNIVERSITIES!!!! So, yeah.... The game is in Grand Forks, look for GF to get a boost economically that weekend. In Fargo? Ditto for Fargo. In Minneapolis? Look for ZERO GOOSE EGG NADA economic boost for Fargo and GF. SO, yeah, that's my argument. Big rivalries are more than what sells at the gates. They help communities. This helps our Minnesota communities and the NDSU UND Minnesota campuses....oh wait. 60K is a very nice number for Minneapolis businesses. I'm sure they're very happy to hear this.
