Before Dallas Goedert was a star in the NFL he was a 6'5" walk-on that came in around 225 lbs according to the guy that recruited him to SDSU. I would wager, without anyway to prove it, that Goedert would be more likely bagging groceries vrs catching passes in the NFL if he attended UND. He was an A honor roll student, surprised we didn't look at him. 2013: Redshirted ... honored as Scout Offense Player of the Week in preparation for regular season finale at Youngstown State BEFORE SDSU: Was an honorable mention all-state selection two times in football at Britton-Hecla High School ... three-time all-conference pick in both football and basketball ... team captain in both sports ... member of the A Honor Roll

Top 20!! Let's kick the feet up and relax, change nothing.

Not if you target and land guys with multiple offers, then it's foolproof and you feel really good.

I'm glad our TE's don't look like the NDSU TE, he's 6'3" and 245 lbs and that's probably inflated. How about Gindorff though, 6'6" at 268 lbs and can run. (injured early in the year)

1. Physically we couldn't hang with SDSU for 60 minutes. 2. QBs in the Natty combined for 18 carries, 126 yards, and a TD. And that's a light game day for NDSU QBs historically speaking. 3. Style of play different than UND. TE's combined for 6 receptions, 115 yards, and 2 TDS in the Natty. Thus far their style of play (NDSU/SDSU) has been "slightly" more successful. Either we don't have the athletes to play this style of football or we are __________________. (fill in the blank)

To Luke's credit (former O-line coach) he told me the kid would be in the NFL some day as a freshman. It should be Smith's backfield next year. Did Hoos have about 2-1 carries over him this past season though?
-
Says the guy with 6 of the last 13 posts. Our playoff performance speaks volume. Glad you are around to toe the company line. Thanks bud!!
-
That's probably 20-30 routes to get those receptions.....enough to keep a player "around" and engaged in the offense.
-
awww....OK?? Ellefson had 16 TD receptions in college. Gindorff had stats of 38 receptions, 448 yards, 11 TDs prior to this season and had 6 receptions, 71 yards, and a TD before an early injury. Then Stofell filled in with 22 receptions. Stofell listed at 6'3" and 245 lbs. Just a beast. Plus, TE sets like All Day Darrell.

Window dressing a turd.

My gripe list in no particular order. Roster Management/TE usage - too many rostered for what we use/don't use them for. As far as I can tell Danny is happy with 2-3 guys that can block. Zavalney was used more as a Split End to start the year, then phased out 2nd half of season. Defense Scheme and complexity - Players never ready year #1 (complexity) 3-4 as many have warned doesn't seem to fit, and need to be bigger up front, more athletic in back. NLI - We're behind many other programs right now Status Quo - not seeing much other than wanting to be a 7 win team Tommy Gun - Lacks the running dimension of an NDSU/Incarnate Word type game. Choke City in NDSU and SDSU game. WR Speed - I miss Clive Special Players - Need a few more difference makers on the team Development - Maybe overly critical but who's the last player to come in with "no expectations" and become a huge impact player? (Santiago??)
-
Seriously......how does this happen!!
-
Ya, Kudos to Danny on Hoos and Red, year #1 impact players. Mostly a D issue right now.
-
I heard this in passing....Cloyd didn't understand the offense. What a joke. Or, it takes 3 years for our safeties to learn our defense........ At a homecoming weekend probably 5-7 years ago I sat in with the Defense on their day before game team film study and must admit I had no bleeping idea what our checks were and could tell most of the players didn't either.......then we went out and got beat by Idaho St.
-
I agree with this. And, we don't seem to find anywhere to get production out of them except the UND TE Graveyard. So maybe try something else.
-
It's funny how dismissive UND kool-aid drinkers can be of Riviere, his jump up and success. (and being a son to a UND football alum) I'd respect UND more if they rostered half of the TEs they currently have and rostered a few more safeties, LBs, or O-line. (Take your pick) Why carry a position group of that size with what Danny perceives as not much offensive value. It's not an efficient use of roster spots. It'd be like Cal Poly rostering 15 receivers when Smokin Joe Protheroe is going to get you 115 yards on 48 full back dives running the triple option.
-
Zavalney couldn't collapse the D line, he was essentially a zero blocking threat. He was an easy tendency player.
-
Danny makes the game plans and determines opportunities on the field.
-
He wasn't good enough to catch passes at UND........ Every kid dreams of making all the big blocks to win a game. UND understands this about our TE position.
-
I don't think much of any. 95+% of position change is coach driven, best guess. More likely, a player has to have the balls/enough belief to leave the program. The stories are cool like JJ Watt from his full ride TE spot at Central Michigan with 2 career receptions, to walk-on at Wisconsin emerging into All Big 10, to HOF caliber DE in the NFL. But for every JJ Watt position and team change there are probably 99 stories that didn't pan out.
-
Prior to having any skin/blood in the game I was vocal about our TE graveyard U. I voiced these concerns but was hopeful and optimistic this position group could/would/should evolve, but it didn't. It regressed during the year and was reduced to a 1 dimensional blocking position in less than 35% of the O snaps last 4-5 games. (estimating) Zavalney wasn't really a hand on the ground TE and a number of his early receptions were from a split position which Dennis seemed to gobble up when Dennis played more and Danny felt his 4 and 5 wide looks gave us the best chance to win. Most frustrating might have been VRS Weber St. witnessing Weber's 2 TE package beating the crap out of us while in less than ideal conditions we tried to spread them out. The only conclusion must be Danny feels his TE group is not talented enough to make them a bigger part of the offense. And, Danny doesn't see the need for a grind it out/bad weather/Playoff type O package. I think he's wrong on both accounts. I still like the guy, Danny!! So why do we carry so many TEs and could some play other positions?? (I don't have these answers)

His GPA isn't over a 3.90. Hard Pass.
-
Right, 2006 on.......more accurate. I lumped all the recent failures and overshadowed some good times.
-
I am not going to get over excited like I have the previous 23 seasons. It's too hard emotionally.......the let down.

He probably didn't have a high enough GPA. We are MVFC GPA Champs in case no one got the memo.
