You totally nailed it. We are far better off right now heading into 2015 than last year at this time. Overall team talent is up- Not to poopoo on the seniors last year but with their departures what position group could you argue 2014 was at a level we can't surpass this year? The closest argument could be corners with Tillman gone. But, I will tell you we have a serious competition brewing at corner, including some height and talent coming in this fall. And when you consider Reyes with another year under his belt, Johnson impressing at the other safety spot I think you'll see a solid secondary this fall. Advantage 2015. We need a QB to step up big time if we're going to make any type of run this fall.

With 2 QBs dropping in one game......it would be nice to have them all competing in the fall. Bartels has good leadership, a good arm, knows the Xs and Os the best, but really lacks mobility. Joe has the intangibles and feels the game more than Bartels, and throws a sweet ball. But, he made some bad decisions. Studsrud was thrown into a storm last year and all things considered, survived. He made one hellava play vrs. NAU. He is most athletic. The answer to all this is...........is people are going to vary on their opinions. Should be a good spring game??

If the RB situation is stable, this has been talked about. If we have an injury or 2, Norberg could tally some carries. I would like to see him at FB, getting the surprise carry once or twice a game for 10 yards a pop.
-
Studsrud was on the scout team the week before he started.......what did you expect as a true freshman? Our 1-2-3 punch, Arrignton, Oleviera, Santiago will be better than what we had last year, guaranteed. O-line will be better and to be frank, the WR production and drops couldn't be any worse than last year. I am a little more optimistic than you I guess.

A brave start, listing all positions. These are my edits QB - 1. Studsrud 2. Molberg (Bartels transfers) WR - Don't Sleep on Reed and Georges SS - 1. Johnson 2. (Arnell,Smith, Sweed,Blackmon fight for #2 and nickel back) FS - 1. Reyes (see above) CB 1. Harris 2.Brown CB 1. Carter 2. (battle between Webb, Hilton, Flowers)

Our LBs Are Going To Be Thee Strength of The Team Next Season
gundy1124 replied to geaux_sioux's topic in Football
I think Troy Hansen will be in the 2-deep. He's already 20 years old, done with school, and is in the Canadian backwoods working out Rocky style. At 6'4", reportedly all of 220lbs he could easily walk into camp at 225lbs. He'd be great to play all special teams and start rotating in at inside backer. Part of being LBU (Line Backer U) is getting the next man up prepared for the following year when we lose Ratelle and Idowu to graduation. -
geaux_sioux has proved to be the expert on o-line. My humble opinion.......O-line is probably the hardest spot for a true freshman to come in and play (Besides QB maybe). At this level, an o-lineman needs to be big enough, strong enough, tough enough, have the feet, and some of these aforementioned incoming freshman may have this. But, then you also need to have technique, be assignment sharp, be able to gel with your linemates, and the intangible of being a gamer. All those things considered it's tough for a true freshman to have all those 'qualities'. I hope we can redshirt all the incoming guys because the upper classman are better and more developed. But, if one is ready to play, let's play him. I drilled the coaches the other night and we kind of know our starters at positions like the LBs, some or most of the secondary, D-line we have a pretty good idea. But on the offensive line, their is a lot of uncertainty in a good way, meaning that we have some guys that are looking really good and developing nicely. Coaches mentioned a handful of guys, but what positions and how it shakes out is totally up in the air. The competition should only make the individuals and team better.
-
A lot of big guys on skates......no surprise with the Canadians. Schmitty likes his LBs to have high school running back experience. The inside backer, Rodgers was almost exclusively a running back in high school. I think Jade sticks at linebacker, too. Coaches were big on him as well. A little side chat on a possible RB......Iwarii Smith, depending how he fits at safety. This kid is really young.....ended up skipping a grade along the way one coach said at the podium. One of the coaches said he ran something like a 10.7 hundred when he was 15 years old!!! That's crazy. He could easily grow into another 20 lbs.
-
Kind of Kelly green.......not sure how a photo translates to the actual jersey. I'll say a nice shade of green with some white and black short stripes on the sleeves (not around the sleeves, vertical). Then the white ones have green and black short vertical stripes on sleeves, just going off memory.
-
The coaches talked a lot about having their camps, getting a 1st hand look at guys for evaluations. Example, the D end Engwall was eating everyone up at camp except for 1 guy.........Grady. Grady stonewalled him every time. Do we really care if Grady has a star by his name? Other notes: Coaches really high on Troy Hanson, up to 220 lbs. at 6'4" at LB Dulin is growing, all of 6'4" at WR All were high on the UAB running back as far as skill set and leadership Lots of good info. on all the players at the event last night but 1 other thing was emphasized with recruiting, relationships and getting guys that are passionate about being part of UND.
-
With the alternate jersey coming in 2016, let's do an alternate helmet..........anyone on board with this?
-
I got a peek last night, only a photo......the schockweb Adidas is top of the line, really nice stuff. The players were fitted and it will actually make us a better team(opponents won't be able to grab jersey) they fit that tight. I didn't get a look at the green pants, though.
-
They will work on his throwing mechanics, shorten the motion. I think he has solid potential.
-
Watch the hudl clips yourself, you can have your own opinion on players, too. We landed some really good athletes today.
-
I hope you boys like green........
-
Punk He told Bubba he wasn't sure if he wanted to stay at UND midway through the season so Bubba showed him the door. Then Ferguson made a fool of himself on twitter.
-
Inside - 2 headed coin does the trick I guess.
-
It's a coin flip according to SFI where Hansen ends up, I have a hunch both sides have an Indian Head - About Santiago.....he's in my top 5 for impact players coming in.
-
Don't forget about Harris at corner. And you meant losing Tillman and Carr.
-
We had an issue with 3rd and longs last year and that probably had something to do with the size of our players getting out positioned on balls down the field. I heard one of the new JUCO safeties is looking really good, on par with Reyes. Although Tillman is gone I anticipate the secondary being improved. Linebackers will be experienced with senior leadership.....improved. And I think the young d-line will be improved, too, but remains a question mark on how improved. I know a guy or two on the d-line battling some injuries......limiting workouts.
-
I am going to go with a linebacker surprise......don't know the name. Would like a d-line surprise but haven't heard anything on that 'front'.
-
I'm pumped up, ready to go. Look for a 6'5" 300lber, then?
-
For current commits the quieter the better- Maybe a few big targets still out there.......for a February surprise, as homer eluded to. If we sign all our current commits plus with the guys already with the team, might have crushed it.
-
Does he run track? He is a few steps away from being impressive. Anyway.......crickets are chirping, which is better than a bunch of news losing commits. The last couple targets are top secret I guess-
-
I think the point is to have your own filter on information...... Hawley is the town where you crack your 1st beer on the way to the lakes, before kids anyways.
