  1. You are right, they started working Kuksa in real early and his ability was worth the risk, and usually 1 safety can 'carry' the other somewhat in making the calls and checks. We totally blanked for 2-3 years of recruiting in safety and corner talent and we are still trying to recover from that. If Cam didn't get hurt.........ugh. The corners have been bad for a while now and Tillman helped bridge a gap for Harris and Carter, and maybe another guy steps up next year, too. We had recent corners at 155 - 170 lbs that were not overly fast, and that doesn't work. We should be OK without a JUCO or FBS corner for next year but we will bring one in if he is good enough to start. Coaches are big on Harris at corner for next year, and obviously Reyes at safety.
  2. Both of those safeties were in the program and redshirted I believe. The defense was brand new to Tillman, but he knew how to play football. Tillman simply checked with the safeties and did what he was suppose to do. Cornerback isn't complicated. The linebackers call the front 7, and have no part in calling what the secondary runs. That said, if the backers and safeties are not on the same page things can get ugly.
  3. You bet, sorry for the short version. Maybe I can get Howe from SFI to go into detail after a few safety signings on Wednesday. I am sure most know this but Howe was one of the best we have had at safety, late 90's.
  4. Safeties call the coverages and make the checks, it isn't even debatable. The defense we run can be tough to learn. Tillman played day 1 and it took Blackmon, I think, until game 7 to get considerable playing time......that is the difference.
  5. JUCOs can sign Wednesday I believe.
  6. I didn't dig too deep on names. The safety position is just crucial to get into the system early. As opposed to corners.....we could bring in a corner 2 weeks before the season and be OK with schematics.
  7. Thanks for your concern- I will check in with my anger management sponsor on how to handle Bison fans on a UND forum. (in color for sarcasm)
  8. And on a UND forum I put in my time to say whatever the frick I want-
  9. wow- I have said the MVFC is the best conference all year. It's when you guys say it 500 times on a UND form that the sarcasm breaks out. Get it??
  10. Hey tough guy, I said it was a compliment to your program and I've acknowledged the MVFC all year. So what's up with the little weiner syndrome?
  11. Did I say they didn't earn it? They just really benefit from the reality of FCS football, home play-off games, oodles of them. And if the NCAA has a close decision to make the fan base and ticket sales will surely sway them the Turd's way. It's a compliment to your program, but still trying to figure what's the best conference this year.......
  12. What a great observation - How about the shape of the earth, what's the latest on that? I am far more impressed with Illinois St. than the 'turd'. The 'turd' should be thankful for all the home games......just how many road playoff games have the Bison won in this stretch? I believe it's zero.
  13. I expect about 5 signings on Wednesday with a couple safeties from the JUCO ranks.........just guessing. So far so good is the word on this recruiting class thus far.
  14. I think that means we only have 1 top level safety on our roster right now, and that doesn't work very well over an entire season.
  15. Needs to get in the weight room-
  16. I found it. 6'0" 190 lbs. 4.50 forty.
  17. Heck ya. How big is he......I didn't see a height and weight or 40 time or anything.
  18. RB or OLB......from a source.
  19. I think we will have a RB and Safety soon. K. Maurice is connected. We might be surprised in the number of Jucos and FBS guys this year, but still needs to be done.
  20. Not exactly sure how it works but the 2 guys not showing up helps with our numbers going forward, so I was told.
  21. And it is still 2014, so bring in 2 now, and 30 for next season. I believe that is the plan.
  22. I guess Hannible and Sleight didn't count because they never were on the team and those spots are available now. So we have 32 spots open and given the complexity of our defense at the safety position, we would like a transfer now that can begin learning the calls and get a spring ball under his belt.
  23. I am not going to lose sleep over it. It is almost a complement in that our defense is 11 guys at a time doing their job as 1 unit. But, let's be sure to remind the coaches next fall that the BSC doesn't think much of UND.
  24. Jury is still out on Flowers. To your point, we do need to balance out the numbers based on 'needs'. Do transfers this winter count for the total number of players next fall?
  25. With nickel and dime packages and a few injuries we will need to be 8 deep in the secondary to be solid all season. We are 3-4 deep with Reyes being the only stud? We lost 2 starters, so if we bring in 10, 2-3 of those don't pan out and 2-3 on the current roster are buried on the depth chart, maybe quit, the net net net 10 number isn't unreasonable.
