  1. Apparently today is the calm before the storm.

Conference foes.....last game of the season.....playoff implications.....reminds me of the early 90's.......love it! Bring on 1993.....please don't be '92!

Will this be the game Kelly finally gets his fake punt??!!  Only if we need to make a game changing play, I’m assuming. It’d be nice not to be in that position.

I think this is why we haven't run it yet this year, we've been ahead and/or moving the ball so well in so many of our games we haven't needed to even try it.  I really hope we aren't in that position this game either.....but we might be.

    Stop the wheel route

It's amazing how well that works for them.  It must be because they run that formation so many times during the game.....then that one time they send the RB out on the wheel route....he is wide open.   Seems like they get at least a 20+ yard pick up on that every game I've watched them play in the past few years.

In terms of offense, SDSU > NDSU, right?  Is their running game similar, but SDSU has a better passing game?  I know UND can't let NDSU score 49 (like SDSU did) and expect to win.  Maybe holding them to under 35

In terms of defense, would SDSU = NDSU be a fair statement?  UND put up 35 on SDSU.  Will need at least a repeat of that.

I've said it before, but 35 points is kind of where I see the tipping point of this game.  UND will likely need to score 35 just to keep pace, and NDSU will need to be held to less than 35.  I could see a tight game where each team is within a score of 35.  Hopefully we are the team with more points.

We pretty much gave SDSU 28 points. Pick 6, Punt return to 10 yard line, fumble on around 15 yard line.  On-side kick returned for TD.  Also we recovered on on-side kick and our point total might be a little inflated just due to the fact they are up so big....they are probably playing a little more of a prevent type D.

I think we can win if we play solid in all 3 phases....wait I will say 4.....Offense, Defense, Special Teams, coaching decisions in certain situations.   However if I had to predict I'd say 34-28 NDSU, unfortunately.  But that is why they play the games.....hoping this is the Mike Mooney game.  Although we ended the streak in GF last time, and in the back of my mind I was thinking 2023 was going to be the year.  I thought it would be with Feeney in 2023.....obviously 2023 will be Schuster....which is great as he is playing so well.  I see this game being similar to the 91 game....that game was a barn burner in Fargo that came down to the last play of the game where we were in the red zone but they stopped us on a play that pretty much fell apart from the snap.   Hegerle made a game saving TD tackle earlier in that last UND drive.

  5. Let's hope Carroll has another pretty clean game snapping the ball.  There were definitely a few high ones, but none completely over the head.  Give Tommy credit for not letting those high ones affect him too much.  That is probably another reason to only put Q directly under center.  One of the early games this year Carroll snapped a high one and Q was in shotgun and it went over his head, Tommy might have grabbed it....(maybe not)....since he gets more snaps.  Losing 10-15 yards and the loss of down.....is pretty much a drive killer and like forfeiting a possession which we definitely can't afford this weekend.

IF SU's D line can handle the UND line to the point HOOS and Red and Smith can't run the ball, the game is going to be a long one. Not confident the D can consistently stop SU.

Agree, we will need to get some yards on the ground.  I'm thinking we will have to use the short passes and misdirection stuff to open the game though, which it seems like we normally do....and that opens up the run later.  Not that you don't run at all right away, but just sprinkle it in initially.   Danny can't get too cute, and our standard trick plays we've run won't work.....QB throw back...reverses.....that type of stuff, we've run them too many times and SU is well coached and always be watching the back side and will be ready.  That said I'm hoping Danny has a wrinkle or two out of a couple of the formations that will hit.  Maybe that hook and ladder play, we haven't run that since NAU.  Sure hoping we can keep our run of hot starts this weekend, need to get some early points......well actually we will need them throughout.  Agree that it will probably take 35+ to win.   I still think sometime Q is going to fake a QB sneak and hit TE down the middle :D  But let's do that on 3rd and short instead of 4th and short :)

On Izzo's show yesterday he, Kolpack & Herder brought up your point about NDSU being the 5 if Samford and NDSU both win this weekend, that there's a valid argument for that.  Can't assume wins this weekend, though.

Win or lose this weekend, I can't see UND being out either.

In this particular bracket, I'd probably prefer they stay #4 so they would have to play Weber State in second round.

On a separate note, if Big Sky only gets 3 teams in....UND needs to make a good showing so that the Big Sky isn't screaming they should have gotten more in.....and think they are the new FCS Power conference.  If NDSU played Weber State.....would be better for the Valley if NDSU won when looking forward to next year comparing Big Sky to MVFC......but I'd have to root for Weber anyway.

You’re so lost. Fallacies non-stop from you.

I tell it how it is. You won’t find a bigger UND football supporter, but I’m also realistic so I state what I think needs to change in order to take the next step. It’s called being proactive. Oh, and knowledgeable.

So you can stop it any second. We all want the same thing, or at least I thought you supported UND.

Go Hawks! Let’s get it this time, Bubba.

The Einsten quote was cool......the first time our sales manager used it back in 1998.

it's called being realistic....there hasn't been anything really really positive around this program for 20 years....

hope this year is the year....starts on saturday in fargo

You are right, it has been quite a while......too long.  But does that mean none of us should be allowed to say anything positive.........ever?  We can't even say......we will have the 2nd toughest strength of schedule, without a certain person having to put a negative spin on it........oh it's totally inflated due to SDSU.   I don't see other people saying every Big Sky's teams SoS is fake because it's just inflated by Sac State on their schedule.

The presence of SDSU on UND’s schedule does increase the strength of schedule for UND. That’s a fact. The other opponents on the schedule are quite fluffy, though, with the exception of the big one this weekend: @ NDSU

Its no secret that SDSU and NDSU should be the prime matchups and highlighted contests year in and year out for UND football

Pretty much no different than the Big Sky teams having Sac State on their schedule and all of them losing to them.  That's a fact.  But we know it's your duty to knock down anything positive regarding UND football.

got heat for saying 7 doesn't guarantee us jack...what's our signature win this year?

youngstown state? and what's their signature win?  duquense?

abilnene christian?  and what's their signature win? sam houston?

need to see this ndac as a playoff game too.....

If Montana loses to MSU this weekend, they will be 7-4 without a single win verses a team with a winning record.  Although didn't check the record of NW ST who they played

D2 roster and coaches that can’t coach? That’s not UND, to be clear. But things can still improve. They always can.

Someone is a bit sensitive, huh?

Yep, sure seems like you are...since now you are back peddling on your D2 comments.

If it were UNI or YSU with our record they would be saying 4 valley teams in.

Hopefully YSU beats SIU this weekend...there would be two 7-4 Valley teams....don't see how you couldn't take one of them....and obviously we get the tie breaker on that.  Let's just win so our only worry is if we are seeded or not.

  14. A lot of people on the FCS fans nation page saying......Big Sky with 5 or 6 teams in, and Valley with only 2, but it's probably fans from the Big Sky that are saying that of course.  Just seems flat out ridiculous the Big Sky would get 6 in and only 2 from MVFC, especially if that 3rd MVFC team has a top 10 SoS.  Just can't see the selection committee doing that without some major justification.  Hoping Montana and Idaho lose this weekend.  Hopefully our old nemesis Idaho State can help us out and upset Idaho.  If Montana loses they don't have a single good win all season, they would have to hang their hat on close/quality losses and 7-4.

ACU winning this Saturday would definitely be big for us, hope YSU wins also.

That's why I think we should go on offense if we win the coin toss.  BTW, did we win or lose the coin toss today?

Yeah but if they come right back and score on their opening drive right away, that great momentum from the first drive is shot anyway.  I think I'd still probably defer to get the ball to start the second half, but I can certainly see both sides of it.   If they score on first drive though, but we come right back and score.....it's kind of deflating for the team that just scored.

Some of our (usually) touchdown drives this year have been amazing in time consumption.  Anybody have the actual stats?  I'm thinking 12 minutes against ACU (no TD, but last possession of the game) and 10 minutes today against USD.

How many times have we scored a TD on our opening drive this year.  Seems like we've gotten a TD on like half of our opening drives this....kinda crazy....but keep it up!

Ball game, Mo State beats YSU

bad loss for Youngstown, that could cripple their playoff hopes even if they beat SIU next week

With the way things have played out and SIU losing, I am ok with YSU losing.  If they won and also win next week they are 8-3 and probably seeded ahead of us.  I'd say we are now locked at being at least the 3rd seeded Valley team....and are now also a lock for the playoffs no matter what happens....unless we get beat 55-0 or something next week.
