Here is a link to the recap below. Sounds like they limited BYU on offense......"On the defensive side of the ball, Utah held BYU to just 63 yards rushing and 233 total offensive yards." http://www.utahutes.com/news/2017/9/10/football-utah-beats-byu-19-13.aspx

I think we are both on the same page here and saying the same thing, if a guy muffs a punt, misses a kick, or a ball gets kicked out of bounds I don't think you can necessarily blame it on the coach which is what I was saying. However if muffing punts and kicking out of bounds becomes repetitive, then that is a problem and you can start looking at the coach.

Taubs didn't have his best year last year, but we've been fortunate to have some really really good kickers and have been pretty spoiled. I've seen plenty SEC kickers shank 37 yard field goals. Taubs looks stronger and better this year, I'm looking for a good year from him. Even in a good year you are going to miss some. Thank god he made all of them against Utah to keep things reasonable. There are many college teams that would love to have him as their kicker.

I was pretty hard on Kostich last year as I think getting two punts blocked at crucial times, and not having his guys lay off the rush when we got the penalty were more coaching type mistakes or not having the guys ready. But if a guy muffs a punt or something like that, I can't blame that on the coach. Just like if a QB sails a ball over the WR and gets picked, hard to blame that on the coach. I'm just glad we have Santiago back there returning punts instead of Seibel, I actually look forward to receiving punts again.....that something good may actually happen instead of crossing my fingers praying we successfully catch the ball and don't fumble.

Maybe that is why he wanted to play RB instead of LB, maybe just doesn't have that natural aggressiveness you need on defense.
-
Does Nevermann just not cut it at LB? He is suppose to be an inside LB right. Or is he on the two deep at ILB but just doesn't mention him on this write up. With how good he looked in spring ball back in 2016 as a RB, with him now converting to LB and his size.....listed at 220.... surprised he isn't getting more playing time with the injuries at ILB.

I also am with you on that, it's our worst combo....and to wear them on the opener. Whatever happened to just wearing white pants with the green tops once and a while.

Big Sky and MVFC create Challenge Series

I didn't see that game at all, but am surprised by the score on this one. NAU was moving the ball pretty well against Arizona in their first game.....only scoring 20 really surprises me. -
Keaton is really dialed in this year, he played really well again yesterday....on target with his throws, making good decisions and making plays and buying time with his legs. I was actually ok running up the middle again on the first play against Missouri St.......setting it up for a big play over the middle on the first play when we are up against a better caliber team, and maybe that is this week. I predicted people would love Rudy this week against Missouri St, but then the haters would hate him again after SD (which I hope doesn't happen). However my prediction this week is that Rudy has now seen how well Keaton is playing and he uses the pass more at the beginning to set up the run against SD, and also gives Brady the start. Brady deserves the start.

Yes very eloquently with my 15 spelling mistakes as I typed fast on my phone while riding to the concert having a few beverages.☺

I think it is somewhere in the middle. Go Sioux was just saying tacjling was horrible in tjr Missouri game and you kind of jumped on him. I think our defense is pretty good, but Missouri seriously mist be horrible to give up 34 in one half and we shut them out the entire game. Granted we got some turn overs but bottom line is we shut them out. Great showing by our defense today, that said we are really thon up the middle and I still have my concerns. I wasn't totally blasting you, but you were blowing things out of proportion when you said we were blowing things out of proportion when we said Missouri's defense was bad. We got awin today, but I am still worried about SD next week.

Yep.....it was perfect! For some reason couldnt get it going on my phone though, but game was in hand so wasnt a huge deal.

I'm going to have to watch the replay on that one, got picked up to go to a concert and missed the 4th quarter and couldn't get it on my phone. Nice to get JJ involved at the end today....hopefully we can get him rolling and truly have a 3 headed monster in the backfield.

Where is Bison06, saying their output against Missouri was impressive and thought many of us were way off in feeling good about this week. I think their output against Missouri did open our eyes and gave us some concern, I thought they would score in the 20's on us today. Very nice shut out especially since Rodgers got hurt went out and we don't really have a true MLB playing.

He did try and establish the run early, can't blame Rudy for trying that out of the gate....as that is our identity. But then he opened it up when the running wasn't working that well, nice job of adjusting. The passing opened up the run. I like that they put Brady in on the second drive and started establishing him. I hope we start games with Brady in there right away as Santiago then is a great change of pace.
-
Thank god...we really needed a TD there not a FG.
-
At least they put Brady in, Santiago is only effective if we are getting a good push up front.....which we are not.
-
Is it on there? I'm watching it on the watchbigsky.com site

Saw your post on the FCS Fans Nation Snapchat.....looking good!!

For as much of a game breaker Santiago can be at times, and the specimen that JJ is.......right now I actually feel most comfortable with Brady in the backfield. I'm sure JJ will be good though once he gets going a bit more, and hoping Santiago breaks a big one this weekend and many other times throughout the year. But if we had one drive at the end of the game that we needed to win the game.......right now I think I'd want Brady in there......always positive yards.
-
Exactly. Before the season started we probably all thought the EWU - NDSU game was going to be a good one, but I think it is more likely that NDSU wins by 20 than it is likely that the game close and comes down to the last possession. EWU may be out of the top 10 after this week unless their offense figures things out in a hurry. I'm sure they will work out some kinks during the year and get better, but based on last week doubt they are scoring 30 this week against NDSU.

Nope, the first one was Mercer. After we made the interception and then got a completion we had the ball 1st down at the 12 yard line of Utah, so on 1st down we ran the Jet Sweep to the left with Mercer.....there were two guys right there, he had absolutely no where to go and we lost two yards. It could be that we ran it later with Brady though and I just don't remember that one. I do remember the one to JJ.
-
Pretty sure it was Mercer who ran the first sweep, there were two guys right there waiting for him so he tried to cut back and fell down.....lost two yards.

Ok so I was curious about my memory so I watched the first drive again.....and actually of the first 11 offensive plays in that game we ran the ball 9 times, 8 of which were pretty much right up the gut. We did run the bubble screen twice on that drive Here is a link if you guys want to watch offensive wizardry at work:

You mean when we won the 2001 semi-final game scoring a whopping 14 points...winning 14-2? That juggernaut of an offense? Last December when we had the week off before Richmond I re-watched that game just to watch some UND football. In my mind I had fond memories of our offenses back then and somehow remembered them being so good and diverse. Well when I watched that game, particularly the start of the game.....it was about as vanilla as you can get. I think we ran the ball 9 of the first 12 plays or something like that. But yes....we ran the bubble screen a few times in the game.....woohoo....I guess that means you are an exciting offensive coordinator if you run that 3-4 times a game. We scored 14 points in that 2001 game that we were evenly matched. We just scored 16 points against a team with a ridiculous front 7 in which we were over matched. I remember we all thought, we need to get the ball outside to open things up against Utah. Well I think we ran the jet sweep twice...and averaged a 2 yard loss on that play, so I'm sure that is why Rudy scrapped that play. All of that said, I was as frustrated as many of you during the Utah game as well and there are definitely things that could have been better, and done some things differently. I wish we would start out with Brady in the backfield and establish him strong up the middle as he always gets a couple of yards. Then bring in Santiago to mix it up. We need more TE's...and other things that you have all mentioned, I agree. But lets not mistake ourselves that we had high flying offenses when we won a National Championship. It's funny......when you win....everything looks good.
