  1. so..... You're saying the fighting Sioux history will be lost on students in five years, yet, you expect them to vote for a name of an out of state cavalry from 120 years ago? I see a slight problem with that logic....
  2. How in the world would you set that up for a one-time vote? You're going to research the worthiness of 82,000 people, and then grant them varying voting power based a list of criteria generated by? Who decides how many extra votes for those meeting certain criteria? Does Kim Jong Un get a say in this? holy crap batman. My choice isn't on the final ballot. The writing is on the wall. I do feel fortunate my second choice of the three is going to win. But regardless, I would accept the voting process and results. We cannot blame the students who have 20% of the voting power for what the final result will be. let it go......Fighting Hawks will be the new name in a matter of days.... embrace the Hawk......
  3. I just told you. and I've explained in innumerable other posts about the nickname.
  4. any of these logo ideas are better than to know we are honoring the son of the head veterinarian at the old ag college.
  5. no argument here. 27% of voters agree with you. only 26% of voters agreed with me. while nowhere near my list of top names when this whole thing started, I like fighting hawks better than roughriders.
  6. I made that same point in this thread; nothing unique about it.
  7. Yes, one guy. He was the son of the head veterinarian at ndsu at the time. Great tie-in for UND.... Not.
  8. and, the Roughriders arrived here in...??? oops, never mind!
  9. amen! Ya gotta learn em, son!
  10. yeah I have no idea, I just recall in the first announcement about the first vote they made reference to somehow accommodating people that did not have email
  11. it depends on how old the donkey is. If it's still learnin', one vote. Old donkeys get two. At least I think that was Class B's general idea.
  12. absolutely. Or even take it a step further and from the very get go eliminate names that didn't meet criteria and talk about why some names do meet the criteria so all would understand. You know, actually have a discussion rather than raising their hand every once in awhile for a name they personally liked.
  13. those without internet were given other options- I don't recall how it was planned, but accommodations were made.
  14. it depends. How big is your house? Any farmland?
  15. so if they are that detached from the University, why should there votes count for more ?
  16. 120 continuous hours to click a mouse 3 times to register a vote....and yet some didn't have time??? we need to get a preposterous statement tournament started on this website. furthermore, if they don't have that " much time"or they are "too removed" as you say, then that answers the question- They don't care enough to vote, those that cared, voted, and the results are what they are.
  17. Yes, it does seem extremely unfair and unreasonable to have age discrimination based voting. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. And as I stated, the numbers don't lie.
  18. students are roughly 20% of the eligible voters. Giving 80% of the eligible voters potential "extra" votes would've been viewed as grossly unfair. The frustration with the students for the outcome doesn't add up. Literally.
  19. I agree. I don't see any giddyness. I see either acceptance, or the early stages of grief. Just like the no nicknamers were told to move on, the Roughriders diehards will need to do the same. But it will take some time. Go Hawks!!
  20. I don't think a couple of students panicking while asked questions in front of thousands is a fair representation of the entire student body's intelligence. I'm just glad they know their North Dakota history, given their voting tendencies. current students are I'm guessing about 20% of the eligible voting pool. blame your fellow alumni if you feel the need to complain about the results.
  21. i'll give my vote to the first roughrider supporter who can fix this hopeless quoting function on here. geezus h.
  22. I heard Stenehjem is already on the phone, talking to the two closest flocks of hawks....seeing when they can schedule a vote to hopefully get their approval.
  23. i think the problem is there weren't any choices that met all those criteria. Plus, a lot of those points the committee came up with are purely opinions or silly. That's why I voted Nodaks in the hopes something representative of UND and ND could've evolved. Let's try the same exercise for Roughriders: Representative of state/region (Nope, Roughriders are either horseback riders from anywhere on earth, or else Teddy's southwestern US cavalry)Honor past/look to future (Nope, Roughriders were not from here. Unless we want to honor an award started in the 1960s. But why would we honor an honor? makes no sense)Promote pride, strength, fierceness, passion (agreed, this is a personal opinion)Sense of community/connectedness (agreed, Definitely isn't going to bring us all together)Intimidation to competitors (this point is just silly. no college athlete has ever been intimidated by a logo or name)Unique, recognizable, distinctly UND (There's some nice RR merchandise on sale at Red River High School. and plenty of cowboys on horseback in the ncaa)Formidable/fierce (agreed, once again, personal opinion)Inspiring, unforgettable (personal opinion, and another silly criteria)Beautiful/classy (Old guys on ponies are not beautiful, but could possibly be classy?)
  24. don't worry Sic. Ref Anderson is going to draw up the design for the new logo.
  25. assuming the same voting pool, 83.65% of nodaks voters would need to choose RR over FH. Not gonna happen.
