The nickname committee has been selected. 17 people, four of them alumni. I'm not sure what the demographics of the other 13 people are but I'm hoping the majority are students. Their job is to submit nickname candidates to the president who will have the final decision. Should be an official announcement next week.

I love that you're thinking outside the box, but that one would take some getting used to; for me personally, anyways. From a students point of view, it sounds more like a campus committee more than a nickname. On the other hand, we could go by the Discos

Does the Hockey Team Have a Disruptive Alcohol Culture?

Who reported this? I haven't seen an article yet. -
27-24 UND on a last minute field goal by the freshman!
-
According to Wiki the attendance for just the NCAA championship for 2014 was 18,742. UND vs. Minny the night before was a similar crowd. Not to mention that it was two midwest teams playing in Philly. The 2011 Frozen four in St. Paul was soldout for both semis and the NC. That's 19,000+ per game. The regional games attendance are usually brutal but the frozen four usually has great attendance. Especially if the sioux are playing. Just wait until college hockey comes to Fargo this spring!

We have an allotment of 500 with the option to bring our band and cheering section.

Nokota it is. A lot of people are afraid of North Dakota Nokota being too big of a mouth full. I actually think it is a hell of a brand. Think about it: 1) It is literally "North Dakota" condensed into one word 2) It is our state horse (One of the few states with wild horses) 3) Horses are intelligent and athletic animals and were vital to the settling of our state I don't think it can get any better than this. For those who don't like the tongue twister aspect, it inevitably be shortened to Nokes casually. Not saying that's a good or bad thing but it would happen. The only problem I can see would be the fact that Nokota sounds like a Native American word, even though the horse was named after "North Dakota," not anything specifically related to Native Americans. I initially did not like this nickname. But the more I think about it, the only reason I hate the name is because it is not the Fighting Sioux. Beyond that, I think it would be a name that represents our university and our state honorably and originally.

From what those who have attended practice have said about the energy and attitude of the team, I believe we will rise to the occasion and play them tough. Even in our down years we have seemed to play strong against good teams like Texas Tech, Fresno St, and San Diego st. These guys know that they have the chance to define an era of North Dakota football with just this one game with the programs first win against an FBS team. Bubba will get the team to believe in themselves and we should believe in them too. Muss is gone, no more expecting to lose.

C'mon man! There are some green and white Spartys running around the Big 10 that we do not want to be associated with. Go original with Nokota or Snow geese. I think the Originals makes an okay ambiguous name, the same way the Oakland Athletics name works. Let's go Nokes, Let's go Snows, Let's go O's. Our North Dakota accents would be irresistable.

The kids would have to get the approval from all the Dojos in the state before we could move forward with the Kung-Fu Ninja Kings.

With the play of Gothberg this season, i believe the sioux were one "goal scorer" short of being a 30 win team. We have a talented group of forwards but none of them stand out as great finishers. With the year Simonson had at Lincoln I'm hoping that "nose for the net" translates to the college game. Simpson is a big loss but I think our blue line comes back better next season. That being said I can't think of a guy i'd rather see raise the National championship trophy than #18. Let's go Sioux!

http://www.calgarysun.com/2014/03/29/sorry-flames-fans-johnny-gaudreau-should-stay-in-school I wouldn't bet on this article being correct but it may inicate a higher possibility of him staying for his senior year.

I became a conscious fan when Greg Johnson was the shining light in a non prolific era of sioux hockey. I loved watching him play and got to see the program build a national championship team just a few years later. I got goosebumps everytime Scott Hennan would say "David HOOOOOOOOOGSTEEN! "

If Minnesota has the same attitude, look out!
-
Not to mention, Robert Morris won't have the largest most raucous crowd in their history cheering them on.

3-1-2 I think. I know we swept WMU in a rare all black series, tied BU and BSU, and lost to SCSU. I'm not positive but I believe we wore blacks on Saturday against UNO. Not sure what we wore on the BC trip.
-
Now the big question is, do they wear their greens or blacks. I say we get the black jerseys with green lids and breezers combo going. Somebody call Poolman
-
I just watched last years regional highlights when they pumped BC 5-1. I'd rather play the gophs first round
-
Uncharted waters for the sioux if this bracket holds up, which I think it should. Let's embrace this underdog role and get 4 gritty wins!
-
Well if we're going that route then I vote Varmints

Is FSN picking up the game tonight? The guide says there's a nchc playoff game on midco 639. I know they had the St. Cloud game on last night so they may have just planned on televising the Sunday game for that series but we have the only nchc game tonight.

Green Wings... as in the Green-winged teal. Might as well borrow another original six logo too
