  1. NEWS FLASH: Every single freakin fan wants him to get one! I damn near wanted to break my 65" TV out of frustration at the game last night.

Now once again, Who would like to see Hakstol canned before the start of next season? Please identify yourselves.

A much more important question though is if you fire Haks who do you replace him with?  Who's that better coach out there who's available/likely available that will get better results than Haks?  I want to know.

  2. Fair question....If he's had a run like the last 11 I would be fine with him staying there as I believe he will get one if UND is consistently there. I follow that up with a question to you. What team's success would you rather have below going back 11 years?

    Duluth

    1 national title

    5 NCAA tourneys

    2 Frozen Fours

    1 Conference Tourney Title

    UND

    0 national titles

    12 NCAA tourneys

    7 Frozen Fours

    4 Conference Tourney titles

I would rather be in the NCAA tourney every single year and the Frozen four 7 out of 12 years with a chance to win it than be what Duluth has been with one title and only 5 NCAA trips. Even if Hak had a title but only made the NCAAs 5-12 years I would think he should be gone. Instead he has 0 titles, but he consistently has his team in a spot to win.

You might answer that by saying look at all Haks resources, well I would argue Duluth's are just as good. A facility that is almost as nice as the ralph, a great city to recruit to, only 2 hours from the Twin Cities, nice campus, great tradition, etc. Duluth is a top ten job in college hockey in my mind and they have been to the NCAAs 5 out of 12 years and 2 frozen fours.

At this point in my UND fandom i've seen it all...I've seen National Hockey Titles and I'm just fine where Hak has the program. I think UND fans should be putting more time and effort to getting Bubba in the FCS playoffs and getting our MBB team to the big dance. Those are things I haven't seen that i want to. Hak and the Men's hockey program are the least of my worries.

The 11 year resume above for UND to that of Duluth is clearly superior, without a doubt.  For anyone to argue otherwise based solely on the merit of Duluth's one natty would be simply ludicrous and I could not take them serious.  You have to look at the whole body of work and UND's is superior to Duluth's in that timespan, no natty be damned!.  Frustrating as hell Haks can't get that natty but fire him for his coaching?  It's his fault that for the most part although we outplayed BU (NCAA stat, we had 8 qlty chances v BU's 3) we hit 2 pipes, Zane picked the worst time to arguably play his worst game of the season,...  I don't know how could Haks have "coached" that differently?  Should he have given a better pre-game "pep talk" so UND played better the first 10 minutes of the game, maybe, but this ain't Hoosiers.  If you want to blame him for his recruiting (maybe those 2 pipes go in last night if they were two other players we lost out on) then go ahead but time and time again I've seen the chief criticism being that he brings in all these great recruits but can't win a natty.  You can't have it both ways. Although we are one of the recognized top college hockey programs with great facilities this is still Grand Forks ND (that's not a slam, I live in this area by choice) and not Denver, Boston, Twin Cities, Madison, Ann Arbor,...

  3. You know why he doesn't get full and unquestioned credit for his regular season wins vs. post season failures at North Dakota?  Because every coach before him did the exact same thing as far as wins go.  Its been 40 years since a coach really struggled at UND.

Wasn't Gino struggling for a few years in the early 90s?

  4. Why can't !@#$ go our way for once? Man, I don't get how this can continually happen. I really don't think it's anything related to Hakstol but !@#$ just doesn't go our way when we have good teams.

Hell, I'd say it really started in 03-04(Blais' last year) when we had that stacked team with Parise and Bochenski. Thought UND would cruise through the tournament. Nope, lost to Denver and Denver ends up winning the title.

What?!  That wasn't Haks at the helm with that talented squad?!  Blow me away man!  Know what, blame the new Ralph.  I might be wrong, but believe the ftbl team won it's first natty in 2001 in its first year in the Al (or was that the 2nd year?) but Sioux hockey aint' won  a natty since 2000, a year before (I think?) it moved into the new Ralph.  Ironic.

  5. Exactly.  The slow lowering of expectations, to the point where "20 wins" is somehow the standard.  Some of us who have actually been following UND hockey for 40 years are very unhappy with that idea.

And where did this idea that the "stars have to align" in order to win a Natty come from?  Since UND's last, Denver has 2, UM has 2, Duluth has 1, and BC has about 27.  Enough of that talk.

A few more facts please.  DU ain't won one for like 10 yrs (and in 05 we' toally beat them/blame one and done), Goofs for like 12 yrs, UMD even you gotta admit won one 4 yrs ago on a spirited/fortunate run (WTF have they done otherwise???). Agree, enuff of that talk.

  6. It was the end of the game. They werent giving out a 5 for that. Figure it out.

Oh, I got it figured out guy.  If a ref doesn't make a call in order not to "effect the outcome of the game" on an incident like that, then he's effected the outcome of the game by not making the call.  Terrible unofficial protocol/"rule" in hockey.

  7. Yeah, but if the same coach can get a team prepared to get to the frozen four multiple times with a different makeup of players from year to year every year under his tenure you have to appreciate that kind of consistency. Seriously hak haters, send in your applications to UND for the next head coaching job, I am sure you will have better luck/more success than Hak and can land the title in a year or two no problem.

Look at Mankato, they got a new head coach a two years ago and ended up being the #1 overall seed this year and laid a big egg against the #16 team. You guys would be happy with that?

Hey, bring in Mike Eaves!  He won a natty in 06 believe but is usually bad every 3 or 4 years and historically bad this past season.  We dont' care, we just want a natyy! Can't make it up.

  8. For those looking for finishers, hopefully Boeser, Wilkie, and Gersich will help out with that next season.

And hopefully NSchmaltz will stick around to help feed them the puck.

I want to support you on that statement but when was the last time we had freshmen get big point totals?  It just doesn't happen at UND anymore.  Why?

  9. Tough loss and a tough way to end a great season. We out played them for most of the game but they had more of the puck luck tonight, we did not. Everyone here needs to step back and calm down. We had a great season. Good job boys!

Not that I disagree but we seem to have been saying that now for the last 15 years (and that includes part of the Blias era you Haks bashers).  Bad karma, no doubt, but for a decade and a half.....

  10. ENOUGH with the hak trash talk - I am so sick of it. Hak is a great coach and we are LUCKY to have him man the helm. He gets the team prepared every year to succeed. He is NOT the guy out there passing the puck, stopping the shots, blocking shots, etc. hak doesn't get much props when the Sioux win but when the Sioux lose......my god, it's 200% his fault and then some - damn that guy! Jeez. Breathe people! If/when hak leaves for the pros (surprised it hasn't happened already) we will realize what we had with him and will be pleading for him to call me back.

I've actually come to the conclusion, based on his great coaching during the reg season and getting the team to the ncaa tourney,  that Haks would be a better pro coach than a college coach.  It simply suits his coaching style, expertise,.....

  11. The thing is, Zane has bailed this team out all season. Time for our big guns on offense to pick him up. We just suck at putting the puck in the net.

Agree.  W/o Zane we're not here this year. Upper classmen forwards need to put pucks in net, such as Cags, Parks, etc and that aint' happening.  Is that poor performance or poor recruiting on Haks part...?

  12. Well considering he has shown up he deserves it, we don't deserve it.Of course they are going to talk about him.

I'm convinced even though the east teams don't play more like NHL teams they seem to get more high-end, skill talent anymore.  How else do you explain how their freshmen can rack up respectable point totals (and as young freshmen) yet the high end skill players we seem to get anymore have played juniors  and don't seem to start racking up points until soph or jr years (with a few exceptions) even after scoring lots of pts in juniors prior to playing at UND?
