Duluth is a far better team than Omaha despite those two teams' records IMO. The top four teams in our conference talent wise are probably UND, SCSU, DU, and UMD and any of those teams could win the national championship as long as they are in the tournament (cough cough Duluth). Personally I think Duluth would easily be in first in the Big10 if they were in that conference.

Absolutely agree. "Far" better, not sure, but for sure better.  Yes, UMD could win the Lil 6 conf title.

I like Luke and there are moments where he is the best player on the ice but there are also moments where he is the worst player on the ice. His bipolar play can be very frustrating but I think the good Luke outweighs the bad Luke. If we are going to win it all this year, we are going to need a lot of the good Luke as he is the best non-CBS forward IMO.

You know, I've bashed him once or twice here but you just might have point.

Let'stand hope they close out strong against the Montanas at home and then have momentum into Reno.

The games are at strange times and dates to provide travel time to Reno.  The Montana game is Wednesday at 7 and MSU game is Friday at 2.

Yah, hope so.  That's this upcoming week, correct?  LIke you say, different game days to allow travel time then.  I suppose the Fri 2:00 game (wish it was 5:00) is due to men's home hockey game Fri night vs W. Mich.  Hope I can get off work a few hours early Fri to catch it (when the boss is away,...).

  4. Wow, no post to UND women's hoops current season thread since my last one 2 weeks ago?  The men have been stealing a lot of the thunder I guess.  The ladies though sure have been road warriors lately, winning a tough road game today at Sacramento State.  Frosh Klabo with career high 18 pts, leader Lloyd with 18 pts too and Rosoe adds 16 pts.  And frosh Morton provides another spark.  And they win despite 25 turnovers (!) but they have a big rebounding margin.  Much improved team over the dozen games, quite the turn-around by Brew's Crew.

    The weekend of Quinton Hooker

    26-32 shooting

    8-11 from 3 point land

    12-13 from the line

    Just... wow

Super performance by Q over the wknd and a big sweep by the team, very impressive.  Great crowd too, the Betty revved up nice.

Holy Crap. Shanks is an absolute trainwreck out there.

NDSU has (had) Carson Wentz and we have (still) Carson Shanks, no fair.  Seriously, watching him is like passing by a car crash, you don't want to look but ya just gotta.  It's an adventure out there on the court.  And yet one night I just know (hope) the guy will score 24 points--it's coming.

Last time I checked Hooker is part of the team.  Sometimes one or two people step up.  When Hooker has had rare off nights in the past and we won, McBuckets 2.0, or Baldwin, or Crandall, etc. stepped up and carried the bulk of the load. Other times they won as a balanced team, which his optimal, but at the end of the day a win is a win. Yeah, I get it, it was a career night for Q but like I said, he's part of our TEAM and we might want to enjoy it while it lasts instead of always downgrading wins as flukes because of certain aspects of individual games. When Huff went bonkers against Bucky a couple years ago only to be countered by an insanely more bonkers effort by Frank the Tank, I lamented how we would have won that game IF Kamenski would not have been such a factor. But after I cooled off, I realized the "if and but" nature of my thought processes. We have to beat the TEAM that opposes us, to include every individual unit of said TEAM and vice versa. When Bolomboy and Senglin go off on us again this year and knock us out of the BSC tourney, Weber fans won't be griping about the quality of the win based on the team effort as a whole.  Weber just expects Bolomboy to be Bolomboy and accepts that. We won't downgrade that win either; we'll just lament how awesome it would be to have such an impact player. Well, I say we do have such a player and it is Q. Let's start appreciating his game changing talents.

Sometimes we just need to enjoy the darn wins in a conference where parity is much more than it was even just a few weeks ago.

Fair enough.  Yah, do need to enjoy any and all wins as the parity in BSC is damn close (redundant I know).

UND was on fire right before the break, they seem to have definitely come back down to earth lately.

Yah, you make a point.  Before tonight's game I checked and in last 10 games Sioux were 6W/3L/1T with 31 goals for and 24 goals against.  Certainly respectable but not season 1st half numbers.  When you factor in that 6 of those 10 games were against CC (improved team lately but still in Univ Wis territory record-wise the last 1-3/4 seasons), W. Mich (play UND tough but having a poor season) and Duluth (have talent/play close but their record is what it is) that record doesn't overwhelm you and nor does the goal differential.  Tonight definitely an improvement though with good win on the road against a struggling but quality opponent!  Let's hope it continues.

Are the locations of the blue lines not specified by regulation? Neutral zone is like 2 strides.

You would think they would be but I guess they're not regulated based on what UNO has.  Tim Hennessey said on radio pre-game show that the neutral zone there is small and that it might cause off-side issues with UND players.  Yah, it's very noticeable.

Pretty amazing that our last opponent, UMD, and our next opponent, UNO, have both been swept 4 times by conference opponents so far this year.   4 times.

If that happened in GF, lots of fans would be demanding we fire ___________ and try to get Sandy or Deano back.

OK, OK.  Just having fun . . .

Hopefully we can make that 5 for Dean.

You make a point and I know you're having fun but actually not to far from the truth.  UND has set a pretty high bar for its hockey program and we are a demanding lot.

Without Forte's big game inside for PSU, We win running away. We could do this all day. Ifs and buts....

Uh, I don't think so.  I get ya but 24 pts (nice no doubt) is a hell of a lot less than 38 pts (wow), 14 pt diff and we only won by just a few pts. Hookers 38 pts was more than DOUBLE his avg points per game production while Forte has scored 20+ pts a dozen times this season.  So, tonight while certainly a nice game for Forte was not necessarily "big" (it was damn near average) while for Hooker it was no doubt a HUGE game (hell, highest scoring output for a player in UND div 1 era).  I doubt you can say that for Forte's 24 pts (a bit above avg).  So no, can't do it all day...

The Grand Forks Heraldo weighed in on this topic this morning:

    http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/local-sports/3955721-state-hockey-future-state-hockey-gf-looking-bleak

So let me get this straight. The only sport that Grand Forks is a "preferred site" for now is tennis?!?! Are you *bleeping* kidding me?!?! Is this someone's idea of a bad joke?!?! Grand Forks isn't Fargo or Bismarck, but it isn't Mapes either. The idea that Grand Forks will be stuck with tennis, while everybody else gets something is outrageous and is not acceptable. If any tournament belongs in Grand Forks, it is hockey. Football probably belongs in Fargo. Class B boys and girls basketball probably belongs in Bismarck or Minot. You could make the argument that everything else can be rotated around the four major cities every few years. But apparently that isn't going to happen.

And Bismarck better be careful, or else the "State B" will be headed east to Imperial Cass County too. ???

And the worst part is, nobody in Grand Forks seems to care. Or at least I haven't heard it. :(

I hear you guy about hockey in GF (it belongs at the Ralph, rink of dreams!) but money talks so the Ralph needs to give a better deal in order to compete with Fargo rink.

They are both too small to excel in the NHL. Rocco should have stayed at UND for four years because his nhl career will be a bust.

I think you make a good point, should of stayed 4 (well, maybe 3 years) at UND.  I think he and his agent knew though that his stock was plummeting maybe and thought best to head to the pros b4 stock dropped lower.

He had a hard time finishing off the chances he created at UND. Kind of the anti-Boeser, who is a stone cold finisher.

wow, you make a great point/observation and put into words what I was thinking.  Created the chances but didn't close the deal quite frequently.

I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day.  UND had no business winning this game shooting as poorly as they did.

Their best player stepped up and carried them when he had to.

W/o Hooker's big game, we lose.  Simply as that.

He'll get another year but the future is not rosy.  This is a junior and senior dominated team.  No soph has played minutes this year and the big freshman class has not contributed much.

His teams are very strong defensively although they have a reputation for play that pushes the rule book, to put it nicely.  Unfortunately, they do not score goals.

Wow, doesn't sound very rosy for next season at all then.  Yikes.

A hawk is a bird.  A bird has feathers.  I doubt the NCAA would take any action.

I like this logo design.  Get 'er done!

Only the freaking NCAA could find trouble with a bird having feathers and I wouldn't put it past them.  My God, if that happens then ban all nicknames/logos now.  Nice design!

    http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/local/3930076-east-grand-forks-southern-end-seen-prime-growth-area

There's not a "Duh" big enough for this statement:

A mention?  EGF will NEVER experience meaningful growth until it is connected to the economic heart of GFK (i.e., 32nd Ave. and, increasingly, points south).  Which kind of begs the question…with seemingly nobody being able to agree on the southern bypass along Merrifield and into MN, which mythical Red River bridge project happens first?

The bridges in GF over the Red are what, all within 1.5 miles max or so of each other and near downtown GF?  The newest one being built approx 50 years ago (Point Bridge) I think?  But 50 years ago there were hardly any folks residing outside that 1.5 mile length (I suppose south to maybe 17th Ave at most?).  With south development in GF having extended way beyond 17th Ave in the last 25 - 35 years there needs to be a more southern bridge say at 32nd or even further south with the future in mind.  I live on the Point and to get to 32nd shopping area it's damn near a 15 min drive (yeah, I'm whining!) to get there for just a short distance as the "crow flies".  Yes, traffic at 32nd or where ever would increase but traffic flow in the residential area of GF near the Point Bridge is quite busy and I'm sure those folks wouldn't mind some relief.

Randomly watching the NHL throughout the year, they really seem to be emphasizing "american" stuff...heres a chart of the top american players on the team. Heres' the American stop players for todays game. And they seem to make a conscious effort to point out the US colleges these players attend.

Has it always been this way or has this amount of stuff increased in recent years in response to something (a shift in better US players, a need to connect the game to the US viewer more)?

I noticed the same, think you're right (increased emphasis).
