Rau just made his NHL debut, so I would hope Grimaldi has more points than he does. They obviously have more hope for Rau at this moment than they do for Grimaldi if they brought him up instead. I know Grimaldi started the year in the NHL but they moved him down because of his lack of production. I was hoping somebody might have some insight as to whether it was a strength issue, talent issue, experience issue or whatever. I really thought he would be cracking the Panthers lineup nightly by now.

Good question GFG regarding Grimaldi.  No doubt a talented player but sort of an odd career at UND, seemed like he should of had way more points than he did I(I think so anyway).  Talented player (like a gnat at times) but his play was frustrating at times too.  Not sure if it's a size thing or what.  Yes, seemed to be very easy to knock hit off the puck but I'm no great hockey mind.

Fire Dodson? Simpl queschun. Can't seal the deal.

Yah, gotta.  What happened to that one UND hockey coach who sucked so got "fired" and then took a "demotion" down to the NHL?  Can't recall his name...

I don't think dropping baseball is the answer. I would look to swimming and diving first as this would create less title 9 headaches. Also, I can't imagine S&D brings in much revenue.

Lastly, to address the weather and short spring season: Wasn't there a proposal floating around that would allow the season to begin in the fall, and then resume again in the spring? I thought I read something about this recently.

    Great season opener!

S&D certainly don't bring in much "revenue" (tennis too) but that ain't the case (look at women's ice hockey) when it comes to college athletics and balancing act with title 9.  I like your fall/spring point though.

Jake called the penalty shot a "gift", and I gotta agree.

Sandy said before tonight's game though pretty much like "let's hope (or let) the players decide the outcome tonight".  You know, if you take out a guy who's coming in on a clear scoring chance and w/o any attempt at playing the puck then you're going to put in in the hands of the refs, whether they rule a penalty shot or penalty for 2 min power play.  To take it out of the hands of the ref then don't do that, okay. Cripes.

so.....why did Mr. Security Guard feel the need to talk to our "cheerleaders" after the UNC free throws?

My God, what a freaking shame. They finally get some students (albeit majority ftbl players) at the game but 4 ushers and 1 security guard have to dampen the spirits.

Maybe I'm dense -- how does that work? If we lost to Denver, and they keep winning, doesn't that make it a 'better' loss, or 'better' losses (improving our SOS)? Can we get Mark Wilson from Tennessee Tech to shed some light on this?

Joking aside, how does the PWR work in this instance?

God forbid, plesae, it's not the same jokers who run the FCS playoff selections...!

UMD fans have a right to be critical of the call in OT. That was not a penalty shot, it was a penalty for sure, but NOT a penalty shot. But such is hockey and sports, not all the calls go your way.

You got that WRONG Dog colored shades Biddco, it WAS a PS.  Clearly the Dog player was totally beat, made no play whatsoever for the puck, and his only goal was to take out the Sioux player (can't blame him at all given the situation and his positioning)--and he succeeded--and the resultant call was proper.

Sandy in Herald "Don't agree with the call at the end" on penalty shot. One would expect as a HC he says that but if he honestly believes that that is another issue. No other call should/could have been made if one actually watched the play of the UMD player basically making no play on the puck and just deliberately taking out Pogo's legs from behind.

Spot-on assessment Oxbow6.  Ref had no choice but...

Getting late in the year to start tinkering with the goalie situation.  I don't think redshirting is an option as I can't imagine a 3rd NHL draft pick planning on spending 5 years here anyway.  If he is totally healthy, have to wonder what he is thinking as I am sure he would want to be playing.  Possibility that he doesn't come back next year?

Uh, that's exactly what I've been wondering.  If he's healthy, certainly that's got to enter the thought process I would think.

I agree.  I kind of like the wings image.   I'm guessing that's borrowed from somewhere?  (I don't get around much)

I just saw the wings thing too and I'm on the same page, I like it.

The one where the guy caught the ball at the three point line and didn't dribble into his layup?   I wasn't sure how that wasn't called either.

Yah, I yelled at the screen on that one.  Would of thought either Larry, Curly or Moe (one of 'em!) would of caught that.

Usually when your goalie lets in 8 goals on a weekend, you can point at him as a major part of taking two losses. I don't think that was the case this weekend. Cam was pretty much on his own with no help from the D on nearly every goal.

I certainly agree with you, I got to view the Fri game but not the Sat game and can't put the losses on Cam as on most goals he was one on one.  My only thought though is that despite the deficiencies in the defensive play that Cam never really came up with any big saves (e.g. DU breakaway Sat night for 3rd goal) to minimize the damage and keep the team in it (which he's done earlier this season).  Maybe I missed a few of those saves, if so I'll stand corrected.

At some point the Wild are their record.

Exactly, which now is nearing .500 but that's in danger of plummeting further.  Haks in Philly has about the same record on the season (yeay, a long ways to go yet) as the Wild do but with a team that was expected to be in the lower 1/4 of the league, unlike the wild who were looking I believe to be in the top 10.  Not all on Yeo I guess but gotta do something to shake it up, seems like a very underperforming and fragile team.

Extremely lazy play in the defensive zone.

They haven't played well on Fridays for a while now, that won't cut it come playoff time.   No excuse for the poor effort.

I pointed out same just a few week ago.  Sioux have total of 4 losses and 3 ties on the season but Fri night results (particularly at home) not as good as Sat nights.  Tied lowly Bemidji, lost to lowly Wis, pulled out just a 1-0 win vs lowly Ala-Huntsville, tied lowly CC (blowing huge lead) and also losses to qlty teams Omaha and Den.  Good news though, they have been road warriors this season and tomorrow's Saturday!
