Seriously, in this day and age of the 3 point fg and defenders can't hand check players w/o being whistled for a foul, how can we only get 16 pts in a half with div 1 basketball players and be shooting 18% midway thru the 3rd qtr? It just boggles my mind. Are we recruiting that bad or are the players simply not improving after they arrive (prime example, senior Bailey Strand).
-
Now back to back to back losses. And tonight's 30 point loss (gulp) vs S Dak was not that close. We were down by 42 and the deficit growing but we had like a 12 point run in 4th qtr vs their subs. Shoot 24%, 1 of 15 on 3 pt fg attempts, and 23 turnovers. This is getting embarrassing, not even semi-competitive.

Yup, hole 8 is as tough a par 3 that there is (was?) around this neck of the woods and hole 9 was arguably the toughest par 4 in the Forks area (for this duffer anyhow).
-
Guessing you meant AFC East, Mafia Man?

I tip my hat to the Pats for their sustained success in this day and age, remarkable really, but it sure helps when you play in a piss-poor division and play those teams 6 times every season in grabbing home field advantage as they're nearly unbeatable at Gillette Stadium (realizing they played at Arrowhead yesterday).
-
Fine to say the KC defense can't stop anybody (admittedly they ain't da Bears) but at same time the Pats only gave up 6 less points than KC allowed so they didn't exactly stifle the Chief's offense.
-
Ahh, yah I suppose the Gophers and whomever else (?) might fit into that equation.
-
Certainly a possibility when one considers our 3-4-1 record (pulling out 2 ot wins & the other by 1 goal) vs PW powers Bemidji, Canisius, CC and Omaha. Optimistic view over next 8 games I see us going 3 - 5 at best (assuming we have puck luck & no more running up against hot goalie damn near every night out). We do have a winning record though vs nationally ranked teams though so can only hope that trend continues (I'll sure take being proved wrong).
-
And we have a few forwards who, and I'm barely exaggerating, have each have about as many points on the season as goalie Ed Belfour did back in '87. Yoy.

"Hot goalie", "no puck luck", blah blah blah

Following this past wknd's UND sports debacle and the football season and hockey season (to date) I was thinking the same thing regarding Chaves and his decision to come here. Another tough football season next year and he's really going to be earning his money.

brianvf--Agree, liked the play of Keane and Adams. Yup, Jones has been a nice player and likely will be the "biggest loss" but that probably to some degree negatively reflects on the level of this team (no offense to Jones) these past few seasons. Gardner, another nice player but that's more likely in reference to the level of play by this team the last few seasons, will be a hit in terms of faceoff percentage but if that's all I'm addressing then I'm stretching a bit. My only beef is the reference to next year's "stellar recruiting class", which it well may be, but it seems we have such at UND almost every season but lately it hasn't come to fruition (especially offensively). Nope, not too early to talk 2019/20 after tonight's loss.
-
Uhhhhh, huh?
-
Yikes, that's like 23.5% or so. Not sure what his stat was vs NDSU.
-
I hate to pick on Avants but that looked like an easy/sure put back but looked like he missed the shot way left (assuming he did not get hacked going up otherwise it would have been called I assume?).
-
Ditto, me either. If so, yes, is a traitor or a faker. As a UND grad/supporter/loyalist there's no way I could switch over to the bad side, seriously.
-
He by no means is. That's why he gets point 3 point looks late in the game when UND is trying to come back. Trouble is, he takes them. Plays right into their hands. I have to guess that's the scenario late in games. Otherwise, if Jones is trying to set him up for the trey late in close games then I question his wisdom.
-
We have to go 9-3 which includes 8 of 12 vs St Clown/Dul/WMU/Den? And as Mafia Man just posted, we just went "PW powers" (my words, not MM's) 3-3 vs Canisius/CC/UNO with 2 of those wins coming in overtime? I'll take another drink, please. Playoffs, playoffs,.... Yoy.
-
That, my man, puts it all in perspective. Cripes...Is there a college hockey NIT out there? We'd be the perfect team to win it this season, seriously. Also, it would be another "natty" for Berry to add to his resume (hey, it beats making the NCAA and losing in the FF ).
-
Oh, I agree with you but we always have to remember he is essentially a UND (paid) employee so no doubt he's gotta toe the company line (which gets old sometimes).
-
Don't disagree but to his credit, Olie did say post-game that the lower line forwards were more successful than the upper line forwards and implied more or less something should be done (changes I assume?) about that.
-
Agree, sooner or later you lose credibility. These not so good results It can't be attributed to "puck luck" for a good 1-1/2 seasons, can it? If so, then it has to be puck luck that got Berry his natty in 2016 (can't have it both ways...).
-
You said exactly my thoughts. Many folks were happy coming in with 3 game win streak but last wknd was at home vs a lowly CC team and we blew 2 goals lead and it took ot twice just to beat them. We then had to overcome a blown 2 goal lead yet again last night to beat a lowly Neb-O team and then tonight we blow yet again a 2 goal lead and as predictable can't overcome it a 4th straight time (go to the well too often and...). On the wknd, vs Neb-O total goals tied at 7 each. We are what we are, an average team at best who can sometimes play well enough to beat a top team (as we've done a few times ) and also lose to not so good teams (as we've also done more that a few times). That equates to average at best.
-
Good for him, I say.
-
HTF does Shaw keep his job as PP coach? Oh, that's right, his son is on the team. Send him packing. I'm pretty sure Hak is never coming back but Berry has to go, he got us that natty (thx) but he's now these past few years this program is heading...yoy.
