Then why didn't the B1G start killing it back in 2011? Realignment was announced in Summer 2011 and took effect with the 2013-14 season. They could have started recruiting off the B1G brand name 12 years ago. So why didn't the B1G do better before this?
It was going to take time…it did…now we’re here. One and done tourney, they will not win every year but they will be the best conference with the most blue chips. I’ve seen it coming for 2-3 years now tracking recruiting.
I used to chuckle at myself when I read posts on this site about BU, BC, Michigan turning over kids quickly and how it would never actually work. It doesn’t always work but it’s sure fun to watch skilled kids. MN has a really nice blend of blue chips and very high end role players…they’ll be a tough out for a while now.
But, getting dominated in recruiting in Western Canada by DU is not something that can happen. Really need to restore that pipeline if we can’t hang with the US blue chips.

Buckberger flipped commitment from Wisco to DU. I was really hoping we’d be in on him. Getting tough to watch. DU is running with these skilled guys

Albrecht is returning. It's happening, so I'll refrain from being too negative. I just don't get it. Now, if you look up two posts, I still believe that. Hopefully he's used more as a depth guy and not a 4th line fixture. I'll be really disappointed if someone like Emerson is in and out of the lineup, because Albrecht is a lock.
Edit: I really hate this 5th year stuff. I always said, I'll never be able to comprehend Berry bringing back these guys (see Hain / Senden), where someone else could easily step into that roll. It's just crazy to me. Hurts others development. Feels like you're also potentially taking an experience from someone else. Albrecht is how old? So ridiculous.
I don’t get it…any depth F they were going to add has the potential to do this…any good portal add has an even greater chance to do this. Why not keep a player around that’s actually been here this whole time? I never could figure out the albrecht noise. Guy didn’t play a season….why not bring him back in a depth role? Emerson will be a freshman that hasn’t been drafted (yet)….he’s gotta earn it.

Parker Murray with back to back 4 goal games for Wenatchee and 10 so far in the playoffs. I assume all 10 have come against gopher recruit Nathan Airey. Murray is a big boy at 6’5” 225 lbs. Not necessarily great regular season numbers, so might be just a little streak, so who knows if his skating is up to college hockey standards, as it is tough to tell from short little clips. Could use some size after Caulfield left. Perhaps he is helped by having Ean Samoza a Western recruit feeding him.

Numbers are decent definitely.

Yeah, even if Strathmann is on the same page now, you never know who (Major Juniors or other college teams) will be bending his ear next year in Juniors, especially if we struggled again next year. I.E., does another school look more attractive with a better chance at a Championship.
That’s exactly my thought. Get that kid in a green sweater and let him play. If he’s slower out of the gates that fine (and expected)…maybe he’d stay all 4 years. The issue is that these high end players should be put in positions to succeed…given the roster issues all these kids are in a tougher spot. If he doesn’t come in, maybe he looks for a “more secure/safe” development path. Who knows.

Maybe he and his people don't think he's ready for college hockey yet?
Yeah, very well could be. Seems odd though.

Pretty vanilla but not much out there at D at the moment

I think that’s exactly what they’re trying to do. Which is why I think they are looking for D in the portal with multiple years of eligibility. Don’t want to have a D core of just freshmen and 5th years.
The more and more I’m thinking about that Strathmann situation the more I’d be confused as to why Strathmann would be fine going back to juniors knowing he will be drafted in the top 4 rounds and given he’s played over 100 ushl games, put up solid O numbers, and has been a plus player both years. Looks ready to be ready from my angle.

Well let's see in 2005 North Dakota brought in 13 freshmen. They were:
Joe Finley (D)
Taylor Chorney (D)
Todd Alexander (D)
Zach Jones (D)
TK Oshie (F)
Ryan Martens (F)
Jonathon Toews (F)
Andrew Kozek (F)
Brad Miller (F and then played D later)
Ryan Duncan (F)
Matt Watkins (F)
Brain Lee (D)
Aaron Walski (G)
That team had 6 sophomores, 6 juniors, and 2 seniors. They went to 4 Frozen Fours in a row even though a number of players turned pro early. Not sure if this is even possible now with the transfer portal but we can hope?
It ain’t 2005

I mean, when they commit a lot of the recruits mention a connection with the coaching staff as a main factor so it is at least one factor.
Huge factor

All I know is that both Strathmann and his advisor/agent have no issues with playing another year in the USHL.
Well that works then…but who will play D for this team?
I’d honestly have him come in though. Give him sheltered ice if you’re worried about his D play.

No, he’ll go back to play another year in the USHL. I heard this previously as well.
If he goes in the 2nd he’d most likely want to play college.

Listening to Schloss’ podcast…did anyone else hear that Strathmann could go to “junior” which, I’m assuming, OHL?

Team ND Tier 1 got smoked at all levels in the National Tournament. You can't have a temporary team that only plays together for a couple of months compete against teams that play Tier 1 AAA all season long. Even the few MN teams that played Tier 1 didn't do well in the Nationals. MN is too ingrained in their high school leagues and ND is following that system.
If you want to be the best, you have to play the best. Canada is darn close with their AAA teams. Team ND along with Team MN should be in a AAA league along with teams in Canada. Let the players that have the talent hone it playing better competition. You can't play a weaker high school schedule and then expect to compete at the Tier 1 level. That's the reason players are leaving to play with AAA teams.
If you want to be the best, you have to play the best.
ND should have created a full season Tier 1 team (or two) a long time ago. Keep the HS level, but at least allow for a team so kids don’t have to go to SD or Chicago. MN kids still have their HS league and will always have it…but more and more high enders will start playing Tier 1. At the youth levels in MN AAA summer hockey is almost turning into the “real season” until about pee wees. It’s getting really tough to play juniors early so tier 1 is the best option. If you are a skilled kid, you can play with other skilled kids and not have to worry about playing against much more mature kids who simply want to take your head off. I honestly feel like within the next decade tier 1 teams (full season) will be allowed in MN.
As you noted the one MN Hockey Tier 1 team that made it didn’t do overly well. For one the team was made up of one district…two they had 09s on the team playing against the best 08s in the country. In looking at that lineup I only see one solid 08 on that whole team and they didn’t even have top end 09s. They didn’t have a chance, although the scores were respectable.

It’s tougher than that though…in many cases the kid picks the school based on the coach (I would for me and my kids if they could play). Coach leaves I’d want my kids to follow. Logical to me.

Yeah holy buckets…sorry but it’s going to take a really long time to bounce back from this one. Really unfortunate actually. Kato had a decent thing going there for a bit.

Amen. Schools like UND and Mankato CANNOT accept being relegated to mid-major status in hockey. Too many people on this forum have thrown in the towel; I will not do that. President Armacost, please do not allow hockey (or any other sport) degrade into irrelevance. The tone needs to be set by your office or it won't matter what anyone else tries to do.
Did you just use us and Kato in the same sentence

3 F-M kids on NTDP, we hopefully can land two of them.
More of the MN/ND kids played AAA rather than high school. Is that a growing trend? Paging resident MN youth hockey expert @scpa0305
Big time…I’ve heard Bantams/MNHSHL is getting tougher and tougher to recruit because of the age disparity of the kids at each level (I.e. 09s playing with late 07s etc). They have an easier time comparing against kids playing at the same age level. Plus, hockey is growing tenfold around the country. For example, shattuck only won one of the National tourneys this year. I do know of a number of high end kids that went the tier 1 route.
