This is exactly what I thought.  Minnesota makes the most sense with Cooley heading south.

Oh I’d take him definitely. But he’s also more of a project I would assume.

  2. Pohlkamp is going to be a miss…Bemidji? I honestly think he’s going to regret that one. He sure is looking really good. He really needs to play for a bigger school. I’m guessing he’s a great kid that holds to his initial commitment. That’s awesome…but man, he’s too good for BSU. There I said it.

I've heard he's super quick on his skates.  Would be great to continue to progress back to the "speed kills" UND days.
I haven't been able to find anywhere that lists his narrowed down college choices.  As @ChadR asked above...I wonder if Berry can seal the deal with him and/or Hensler...those high end blue chippahs have eluded us since Sanderson.

Gopher fans already have Bump penciled into their top line for next season.  :)
His USHL stats certainly don't jump off the page, but with only 12 forwards on their roster, they need to add some players ASAP.

I think Potter goes BU…the class is loaded and will help his draft stock (they’re all in…and rightfully so).

We need to get Hensler…I don’t think we will but I hope I’m wrong.

Add Fleece and Morin and this is my watchlist as well. Come out with 2 D, 2-3 forwards and a goalie from that list and I would be over the moon.

I still say Lee should be in the mix too. He def doesn’t get the play he deserves. Most likely a long shot though.

Newest UND Hockey Podcast is out. Part of the focus was on potential recruits to watch. When Schlossman talks recruiting, you always try to read between the lines. Does he know more than he's letting on. Recently, when Zmolek entered the portal, the amount of time they spent talking about him made you wonder. Two names were mentioned that I got the same type of feeling, made me wonder if they know something more. Caleb Heil (G) and Masun Fleece (F). Nothing else stuck out to me, except there was zero mention of Hensler.

Fleece was a really good youth player, still really solid obviously. One player I’ve been interested in is Ryker Lee. They played together at SSM last year and Lee’s production was double. Two different north years but they’re only two months apart. Lee is a late birthdate.

Heil has , as many goalies do, A long long way to go.

Has been good in camps but I think he's going to need to prove himself at the USHL before he gets serious offers.

I'd put him at a bit overrated as of now but who knows.

His numbers (as a 16 yr old) in the ushl look pretty good.

Huge commitment. For multiple reasons. Most importantly from a talent standpoint, potential Top 2 round pick in next years draft. Winning a recruiting battle with two BIG Ten teams, for an NTDP guy, right before the "new" recruiting season kicks off. This one feels very important. Is this the start of a wave that we've seen at MN, BU, MI, BC the last couple years? We'll see.

I'm with the group where this wouldn't change the Hensler conversation. Like @siouxforce19 said, you make room. Two things would happen, first, mid-season everything would be reevaluated. There is precedent set that says if need be, they'll bring in 9 D (Sanderson's FR year). If the Coaching staff thinks a player is valuable and needs to come in, they'll come in. The other direction, which is harsher is someone might get the conversation that they can still come in, but their $ might be minimal, PT will be hard to come by. That would be either a current recruit (1 really sticks out) or 2, at the end of the season, with a current player.

Right now, you have the big $ locks for next years defensive class being Strathmann and Emery. McInnis being wait and see (injury plagued first year) but could take off. Jubenvil being low $ but maxed out of Junior years. Ausmus going to the BCHL would seem to be a guy who would be playing another year of Juniors past this next year.

    Great post.

Also, I didn’t realize Ausmus was going to the BCHL. Such a great decision for him. Game up there is a bit more wagon wheel…less heavy. Hopefully he finds his O game again. If I were advising him, I’d have him play 1-2 more year of juniors. Undrafted…he should just age out. It’ll help him and the team.

I really wonder what went on with him, going from the all rookie team in the AJHL to not even making it to the regular season with Green Bay.  I wonder if he didn’t learn to play both ends of the ice and didn’t see the ice much because of it.  He went back to the AJHL and was putting up a point a game again.  Hopefully he can figure it out and put it back together.  Tucker Poolman was cut by juniors, but he was a late bloomer, but hopefully UND is rewarded for not giving up on a guy who has some deficiencies that need to be addressed if he has any hopes of showing up on campus.

Tucker poolman was an unreal athletes trending the right way at the right time. Singleton was a super good youth player. Good players have come out of the AJ, but it isn’t all that good of a league at all. They’ve all been good players staying close to home. Not being able to make a USHL team and getting cut by BCHL team is a colossal red flag. But…he’s not that old. I’m thinking he’ll end of at a smaller school out east.

O’Neill I’m probably the most confident on.

The other 2, tough to say because based on their projected arrival and our current defensive situation there may not be spots in that class without some departures in the current group, which is  tough to predict.

You’d make room for both of them. Push others back.

Does anyone know if Bowden Singleton is still a commit or not? Chris Heisenberg's 2024 list has him crossed out.

No idea how he could still be a commit. He got dropped from both the USHL and BCHL. I don’t see how a player is cut from two separate Junior A league and has a spot at a program lines ours. Unless there was some sort of issue behind the scenes.

edit- his Instagram profile still has him as a ND commit. Again, I’d be shocked if he makes it to campus.

You take a 1st rounder when you can, any team would and yes the '16 team had BB in 2016 and won a Natty... BUT if you review memory lane and UND's history in 1st rounders: Sanderson, Pinto, Bernard-Docker, Nelson, Oshie, Zajac, Stafford, Lee, Finley etc. = No national title :-(

I do believe UND needs to get more commits out of USNDPT team though, 100%

Schmaltz was on the ‘16 team too. The fact we didn’t win a natty wasn’t an issue with the players during the 2000s, nor was it a Hak issue. Those teams were loaded. It’s a one and done tourney..you need a very good team and a decent amount of luck.

    Looking back, recruiting is cyclic.

That 2000-2010 era the first rounders were American and going the college route.
When first rounders become more Canadian or Euro/Russian it's more MJ.

There are more US born first rounders now than ever, at least higher end first rounders. Canada has always dominated the first round. I may have missed the point here however.

Agreed. I really like our pipeline AND we need to win more battles for the highest-end recruits. It’s both/and, not either/or.

    Bingo.

I am excited about the upcoming year…although I am every year :)
