  1. You're pretty naive if you think it's that simple.
  2. Nice rationalization there. You're simply dead wrong and clearly don't understand.
  3. The U hasn't changed their stance. The stance is we won't schedule any of those schools. Did we schedule the game with FSU? Nope. Nice try though.
  4. Bunch of bs. Try living in the real world.
  5. No we don't pick and chosse when we're offended. We DO NOT schedule teams with those nicknames. We play them when we do not have a choice. Stop calling us the U? In the state of Minnesota it has been referred to as the U since the beginning. We have one major university in the state which is how it became known as the U. If you don' like it too bad.
  6. I couldn't be more proud of my school for taking this stand. The Redskins is a despicable name for any team let alone a team representing our nation's capital. One day years from now people will look back with disbelief that these Native American nicknames lasted as long as they did. If you people want to willingly choose to be on the wrong side of history be my guest. But you have know idea how bad this thread looks to the average visitor. And the idea that the U should forfeit a basketball game in the Big Ten/ACC challenge is so beyond ridiculous I don't even know what to say. The U has ZERO control over who we play in that contest every year and forfeiting an important game that could be the difference in making the NCAA tourney would be a huge disservice to the U, the players, the fans, and the confrence itself. Forfeiting that game is not an option and only fans of small time athletic programs would think different.
  7. It's GOLDEN Gophers thank you. How about the Oilers? I know people have mentioned that before and I think it makes sense. I can't think of another school that uses it either.
  8. No evidence? Are you aware that last season there were more nationally televised college hockey games than ever before? That's a direct result of the Big Ten.
  9. You're a fan of college hockey but you're not a fan of the most watched sports network televising the sport we love because you don't like the play by play guy?
  10. The anti Big Ten hockey crowd has always been short sighted. Ultimately it will be great for the growth of the sport.
  11. Rau announces he's returning for his senior year.
  12. The lack of former Sioux d-men in the NHL is puzzling to say the least. Off the top of my head I can name at least 8 Gopher d-men who play regularly. I guess their offensive game fits today's league better then in the past. And I agree with you that UND will start sending more with Schmaltz and others in the pipeline who are more offensive. On another note, anyone excited at the prospect of Vanek and Parise on a line together?
  13. Schroeder played like he had no interest his sophomore season, he never should've come back. Grimaldi works ten times as hard as Schroeder ever did. They have simliar size and had similar expectations but I'd say that's where the comparison ends. Grimaldi > Schroeder.
  14. I happen to be against the seat belt law. I wear it every time Im in the car as should everyone but there shouldn't be a law for it. Don't protect people from themselves. It's about personal choice, personal freedom.
  15. When you're a high 2nd round draft pick and you've already spent 3 years in college I don't think it has a lot to do with being NHL ready. It's just time to move on and give your pro career a shot.
  16. It won't quite be NHL size it will be 92 feet wide instead of 85.
  17. The talent level was definitely a major factor.
  18. I'm not saying Guentzel isn't a HUGE reason for the Gophers turnaround as he absolutely is. I want him to be the next head coach and no one else. But the program finished in 6th place his last year with the program and then Lucia got sick as well. It all contributed to the down years.
  19. Actually the first down year the Gophers had Guentzel was still there. And Guentzel's time away from the U coincided with Lucia's illness which had a lot to do with those down years.
  20. I think this past season will actually turn out to be the worst season the NCHC has in some time. Too many good programs to not be a great conference. Once DU, CC, UMD, and Miami get their programs back on track the conference should be outstanding. Rough first year though.
  21. I don't agree that those numbers compare to Millers. .932 vs .950. 6 shutouts compared to 10. 1.75 GAA to 1.32. This is my point. Lot's of goalies have had great years but Miller's numbers are so outrageous they almost seem fake.
  22. You must be thinking of someone else besides Johnny Pohl because NOBODY who watched him would consider him a lazy cherry picker. In fact he was quite the opposite. He was a very well rounded forward who hustled his ass off on both ends of the ice. Vanek and Kessel could be described with your words but certainly not Pohl. And I don't care what team or what system you play in. If a .950 save percentage isn't good enough for you to win the Hobey then I'm not sure what is. You think Goehring would have had a similar save percentage as Miller in that system? Brian Elliott was definitely better than Goehring and played in UW's defensive system and the best he could do was a .938 save%. I don't think you truly understand what Miller accomplished that season. Again, Panzer was MORE than worthy of the award and in most season he would have won it. It was just bad timing.
  23. I think the Gophers have had players like Panzer that didn't win it. Johnny Pohl led the nation in scoring but wasn't even a top ten finalist. Ryan Potulny also led the nation in scoring and goals(38) and wasn't a top 3 candidate. Like I said before, seasons like the one Panzer had are a dime a dozen, they happen almost every year. What Miller did had NEVER happened and hasn't been repeated since. It was just bad luck that Panzer's great season coincided with the greatest season by a goalie in college hockey history. There was no eastern bias in play. It was just an obvious choice that year.
  24. Im not spinning anything. I never claimed Stauber was the clear cut winner that year, not once. In fact I was surprised he won it. But this has nothing to do with making the argument why Miller was the right choice.
