  1. Are you of the opinion that the team with better players is the one who will win? Or do you believe that a coach can be good at recruiting the "right" players for his system?

You guys like hockey so here's an example for you. Why didn't Herb Brooks take the highest rated, best players for his legendary Olympic hockey team? The answer is because they wouldn't have accomplished anything near what the team of "lesser" players accomplished. He found the right guys to play his style of hockey and the rest is history. Too many coaches recruit talent, but talent only takes you so far in team sports.

NDSU isn't good at recruiting better "football players" or kids who know the game better. What NDSU became very skilled at was identifying the players who would come in and be part of a bigger vision. Players who buy into a system that is proven to win. And say what you may about Coach Bohl and his staff if you like, but there is no denying he is a master at motivating and organizing young mind. Why do you think Sam Ojuri and John Crockett are OK with splitting carries. Why do you think NDSU's receivers are ok with not being an 'air raid' offense. NDSU's defense has some amazing individual talent, but you'd be hard pressed to say one of them is the best.

They bring in kids with the right attitude(with rare exception) and they teach them discipline and team. The end result of which is the product we are witnessing.

Good analysis. Hoping Schweigert can do this.

  2. If you want to see a coach that is passionate about football, the University of North Dakota, and leading young men, I encourage you to watch the press conference today announcing Bubba as the head coach. It is obvious that this was the best choice for UND's football program. The following two quotes will tell you all you need to know about the heart and passion Bubba has for coaching and for leading a team:

"It is better to do what's right than what is popular"

    "the team is most important"

Just refreshing hearing a coach talk about getting the right coaches with a work ethic and creating a product on the field that all of us fans can be proud of.

Jackson and Golladay may not have fit this concept very well. Guys like Iverson, on the other hand, exemplify what Schweigert is talking about.

The statement about the core of the team coming from the North Dakota/Minnesota region will rekindle Sioux pride.

  3. That's right, UND would never spend any extra money on the football program. Unless you count the $20+ million that they are spending on a new indoor practice facility. But that couple of thousand dollars it would cost to rent an outside facility would be out of the question. :whistling:

Shouldn't need to once the IPF is done. ;)

  4. Was 100% on the Pflugrad then DeBoer bandwagon, but now that the decision has been made, GO BUBBA... GO SIOUX.

Defense wins championships and Bubba is from the defensive side of the ball. If Bubba can bring in and lead the guys in the trenches - both sides of the line of scrimmage - and get the defense to cover and tackle, UND can become a contender and winner in the Big Sky. That is what its about for this football team. They will become a team that makes it to the playoffs if they become a defensive minded team.

Watching the FCS playoffs this fall, it became very apparent that NDSU's defense is head and shoulders above the norm, even among playoff teams. They get the core of their teams from UND's prime recruiting ground. So, if Bubba and his new staff can make inroads in recruiting in the Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin, that should be the first step in getting the Sioux back to where we all hope they can be.

If Geaux Sioux has a true finger on the pulse of Mussman's recruiting the past years, then, despite losing a few players to transfers while this process has transpired, UND should not have to wait 3 years to get to .500, they should be competing for conference championships and playoff invitations by then.

    GO SIOUX!

    Merry Christmas everyone.

  5. so...i been sit at denny bar all nite....just no answer. just none

    our ad is idk

he need to learn hot to make a choice.

    still been hearin deboer

    my sources are legit

My wife had an OBGYN that knew we wanted a girl, so he told us it was a boy. That way, if it was a boy, we weren't disappointed and when it was a girl we were surprised and happy. Are you doing the same thing for Bubba supporters? If its DeBoer, you have softened the blow by saying what they did not want to hear, but if it is Bubba, everyone will be happy and not get mad at you for telling them it was the other guy?

  6. How about a Madden tournament? Must use "conventional" as play calling option.

Also, there was a quick update on the coaching search at http://footballscoop.com/the-scoops this morning. Seems that it has been taken down now. Just another note that Bubba and DeBoer were finalists and a new coach was to be named early this week. Maybe they took it down to ADD some new information. Has a decision been made...

    a huge what if...

what if, after the face-to-face interviews over the weekend, Faison decided not to hire either Schweigert or DeBoer and wants to keep looking?

  7. The graduations of Brock Jensen, Ryan Smith, Crocket, Ojuri, Billy Turner, Grant Olson, Marcus Williams, the entire starting DL, and probably some others may slow it down.

I'm not saying the cupboards are bare but that is a lot to replace in one year. Bohl knew what he was doing leaving now.

do not think it is a coincidence that Bohl is leaving now.

North Dakota State head football coach Craig Bohl says he's taken the program as far as he can
  8. Game just ended: UWW 52, Mount Union 14

UWW just won their fourth DIII title in five seasons with four new assistants and 49 freshman.

Is it wrong to hope that Lance Leipold applies yet tonight?

5 Championships in 7 years under Leipold. He will reach 100 wins years before 10 losses.

Wisconsin-Whitewater obliterates Mount Union to win Division III title

Whitewater, also the champions in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011, have won four straight and five of its last six meetings with Mount Union in the Stagg Bowl. The Purple Raiders have won 11 titles, beating Whitewater in 2005, 2006 and 2008,

The teams have met eight times in the last nine years in the division's championship game.

disclaimer: we will still support the team, whomever is chosen to become the next coach
