  1. I think you are spot on. My hope is that NDSU and UND make this jump together this time (down the road of course but I think it is inevitable).
  2. I know they all suck! Nothing will compare but I don't want to see some random committee choose some crappy name like the flickertails or force of the north. Lose lose scenario. I would love to see somebody come up with something unique; I try and I come up with nothing.
  3. Realistically I am for no nickname but that is not an option. So if that is the worst then please enlighten me on a better nickname that is actually relevant?
  4. On the Herald site one poster recommended the new name be "Sundogs" which is a cold weather phenomenon and would be a completely unique name with an interesting opportunity to create a cool logo. I love the Fighting Sioux name but I think that we can't get away with simply no nickname so what do you guys think of this name/logo idea?
  5. Yeah at the time I still lived in Nodak and I decided to go pheasant hunting that day instead (in retrospect a great idea), but I was able to tune for like 10 minutes and Sioux Falls was definitely the best team. It was gross! That had to be rough hearing your brother rip on you about losing to a NAIA team; I feel for ya. High hopes for this year so we will see if the better recruits pay off!
  6. Good point, at the time I remember thinking that game would be a gimme too, but it was quite the opposite. We need to show up for ALL games!
  7. Agreed, past posters have eluded to the fact that Drake is an gimme game and that is not true. I am glad that others are realizing that the only gimme on our schedule is Montana Western. We need to bring our A game!
  8. You win, now the Sioux can be forgotten about in time. Realistically other than the Fighting Sioux Logo, what else do you have that can offer positive national recognition? the answer is nothing, you win so now it is time to forget that the Sioux people even exist. You asked for it.
  9. This is indeed a great topic and deserves a good debate. My thoughts: The first thing that jumps out in my mind is Bradley's quick release of the ball. The kid seems to be a natural passer that can scramble when he needs to and this is exactly what we are missing. On the other hand Goska seems to have made some great improvements so who knows. You are absolutely correct in that winning games is what matters and I do not really care who is the starter as long as they pull their weight. We seem to be on the right track as our recruiting classes of late have been great; but the missing link is a solid all around QB that can lead the team. I think that someone will shine in fall camp and that will translate to the playing field; and the coaches know more than I do. Is it September 1st yet?
  10. I really hope that that coverage scheme changes; I have faith in Boyd!
  11. I would certainly like to see more kids from Nodak and northern MN but it may be time for North Dakota's high school football system to become more competitive with other states. In Nodak it seems that most of the kids merely participate whereas many other states have their kids training at least half of the year. When growing up we didn't get to play tackle until 7th grade but at least now they have pee wee tackle leagues. (played football in the Nodak system for Devils Lake). Just a thought...
  12. I am just curious about the home FB and Hockey games because I live in Colorado. I will most certainly be at the games when UND visits DU this February; as well as UND at Northern Colorado FB in October. Last year I was at the CC series and the UND fan turnout almost equaled CC. I think that there is a lot of alum out here and I was even able to buy a green beer!
  13. And nothing about it in the GF Herald; kind of disappointing...
  14. That may have been true when we were a top tier D2 university but you really missed my points. I said that the AL is fine for NOW; but not the near future. You also missed my point that the Big Sky conference will play a major part to this and I guarantee that attendance will pick up because i know first hand a lot of Grand Forks falls in the fair weather fan category; I went to school and worked there after and I was at the Cal Poly game in 09 when nobody showed up. My point was that with the Big Sky and a new training facility we will be well on our way to becoming a top tier D1 school; where we should have been 20 years ago. I wish we wouldn't have waited so long to make the jump but !@$! happens. BTW we also do lose a lot of recruits because of our facilities (hockey excluded). Thankfully we are moving in the right direction and that is what matters!
  15. Most of you are spot on in that the training facility is an immediate need and if done correctly will allow us to land higher end recruits, which in turn will create the domino effect. Add in some winning seasons starting now and I believe that the dominos will be lined up for a donor(s) to step in and make a new football stadium a reality. I also believe that we are finally moving in the overall right direction (other than the nickname nightmare). I say finally because when I attended the U from 03 - 07 I was always finding myself wondering how we got by with such below average facilities (REA excluded). The AL is fine for now but they had to know that we would out grow it with an imminent move to D1; and who designs is without future expansion in mind?. The soccer field is such a joke that I actually lied to one of my friends visiting for the weekend and told them that they just practiced there when they asked me about it. Realistically this is a top tier public university but for some reason a lot of people think that since we are lil old Nodak that we should be ok with average and that is so not true! This is the University of North Dakota and not the U of Grand Forks and I am happy that we are finally seeing the bigger picture and we belong competing against teams like Montana; and not SCSU or U of Mary. In the end we will need a bigger stadium and people like me will certainly make yearly trips back home to catch a football game; but it all begins with the Big Sky and the training facility!
  16. I would actually like to see them play every other year but I keep seeing nothing but stupid comments about who is better but the fact of the matter is nobody knows because they don't play each other. It is nothing but armchair quarterback speculation. Maybe someday we will get to meet in the playoffs and then we can determine who is actually better!
  17. I couldn't agree more and college definitely allows more time for development of body and skills.
  18. You raise a great point. Colorado and Colorado State play every year even though they are in different conferences, but my guess is that it is easier to pull this off with FBS schedules. Any thoughts?
  19. Are Sioux football games being televised on FCS again as well? Much better then watching the internet feed!
