I spoke with him after one of the games and he has only 1 year left. He is trying to get a 6th year thru the NCAA so he would have 2 left but we all know how things go for us against the NCAA.

2012-13 Basketball Attendance.....................
NODAK13 replied to bincitysioux's topic in Men's Basketball
It will always be difficult cause most people in this city don't realize UND plays basketball, its all about Hockey and nothing else. The only time we get more than 10 students is when they offer select seating for hockey games or free tuition for a semester, its really sad that students never attend. I occassionally ask people around town on game days if they are attending the BB game and they say WHAT, they dont know it exists or on a saturday when both teams play in town and I have on my Sioux jacket I will be asked " are you going to the hockey game tonight" and I say no the BB game and they shrug me off. -
Nice, we can call this "Seperation Weekend." This weekend is no doubt huge and hopefuly we will be at full strength with 11 players dressing.
-
Understand half the players are stuck in Montana because of the storms. Flights cancelled and they could only get several players home today.
-
Thats a good point. Even the announcers sounded like they were surprised we tried to push the ball so hard. Just poor play period.
-
Agree, come tournament time we should be at full strengh and we know what this team has done the last 2 years as underdogs. Get everyone healthy in the next couple of weeks which should be possible and lets go dancing.
-
Yes he has improved alot but he is not our 2nd best defender. Just because you overplay your man and get a few steals for dunks does not make you a good defender. If you really watch the most fundamentally sound defender on this team and the only one that knows how to box out is Schuler. Huff has seriously improved in all phases of his game and only a couple of times a game does he get out of control with his shots which is so much better than times in the past. Agree with a poster above this writer must not have been to any games this year.

http://dakotastudent.com/sports/2013/02/huff-struggling-with-leadership-role.php Not sure who this writer is but it appears he does not like Huff very well. I would have to somewhat agree with his statements the last couple of years but Huff is definately much improved this year compared to years past.

Any word yet of who we play?
-
I guess I must be really bored but I checked the records of the top 10 D2 teams in the country as of right now and what their record is versus D1 schools this year. They are 0-11 but this does not reflect on their record cause they are all listed as exhibition games on their schedule. The mix of D1 teams played is from Duke to Colorado State.

I definately agree with what you wrote and his energy level is off the charts. However, he still has room to improve in one area I believe. I taped the last game and watched it again last night looking for detail in all areas, Huff took 3-4 shots with at least 3 defenders on him and our shooters were wide open with nobody within 15' of them. Teams are beginning to collaspe when Huff drives and the word is definately out that when Huff puts his head down and starts to drive he is not passing it out and I think if he did this several times a game it would open the lanes up more for him and the same goes for Webb and Anderson. Besides that yes he has been playing incredible and I see him continuing to improve.

What about South Dakota. That would be a nice close game compared to the others and probably a great matchup.
-
Protecting the home floor is the name of the game in this conference. Last week there were 10 conference games and only North Dakota ( thats right, us) won a road game. Read it on the Big Sky website.

Nice video, Huff was in the right spot for the game winner cause Antwi's 10 foot jumper was about 3 feet short. What a great comeback, thats twice this year they have been down by over 22 points in the first half. The first time was Hawaii where we were down by 25 and had a shot at the buzzer to tie only to lose by 3, this time they completed the comeback. Great job by everyone in this one. Big game this Thursday, hopefully people will come out and watch this one.

WOW, that record is really hard to figure out with this class and the reasons why. You look at these 5 juniors and you already have one 1000 point scorer and Anderson will also achieve this plateau this year. Webb will get to 1000 early next year and Schuler has a real good shot at 1000 also and if not for Brekke's injury he would have an outside shot next year. That would be a class of 5 in which everyone almost has scored or can score 1000 career points. It makes you shake your head cause the talent and scoring ability is definately there so what can it be. Obviously the home record is just about the opposite during the past 3 years. The bright side is they are undefeated on a neutral court in the year end conference tournaments but of course this year at some point it wont be neutral if they play the host school.

We have not taken a good shot this half. We are playing one on one and look what is happening again. Why dont these players understand teamwork.
-
During this winning streak these players are playing more unselfish than they have in years. The guards are driving and actually looking for the open player and we are getting more wide open shots than we have all year and look at what our shooting percentages have been lately. Hopefully they will continue to improve on this cause there is still room to get better. I did hear the coach for Portland State yell out to his players at one point when Huff was driving telling them to collapse on Huff once he drives cause he will not pass it. Coaches will figure this out for all our guards and its even more important that they do dish it when they are double teamed. Kudos to the coaches for starting 4 guards cause this is no doubt our best offense and most lethal and actually our best defense even if Schuler is guarding 6 8 guys.
-
You may be right but it's so tight after Weber and Montana. 10-10 might be third place and 8-12 or even 9-11 might also be the final spot in the tournament. Right now we are in third at 4-4 and only 1 game back is a multiple tie for that 7th spot at 3-5, crazy finish we are in for. The way Weber and Montana barely won last night at home just getting into this tournament anyone has a chance to win it.
-
Thats funny you mention that the teammates weren't ready for the pass. I would not say they weren't ready but shocked a pass was coming their way cause it rarely happens when a guard decides to drive or a post player gets the ball. We do not drive and dish to the open wing or we do not have an inside out game, look at how few assists our post guys have over the years and watch other teams how they have a great inside/out game. Bottom line is we have way too many selfish players and the coaches have had almost 3 years to change them and it hasn't happened. Every Big Sky opponent I have seen so far plays solid team basketball and if we don't change our selfish style we will not beat very many teams in this conference.
-
No doubt Schuler needs to shoot more but they also need to set him up better. Did make a horrible backward pass but Antwi had 4 turnovers himself last night and Antwi's shot from 3 in the last month has been ice cold. This team has had a black cloud over it since the start of the season and its still very cloudy. This team should have had Brekke at the 5 with Traylor as a backup, Nash at the 4 with Allard/Archer as backup and then Webb, Anderson, Huff, Schuler and Antwi at the guards. This would have been one of the most athletic teams in the conference and been a big contender. It will be a struggle with the loss of many of these key players and trying to figure out what combinations will work. It's a shame what could have been but we can still be competitve if these players play to their level and as mentioned above shoot the shots that they know they can make and get Brekke back. Coaches also need to take a serious look at this offense they run also and make changes cause it makes me sick to see so many players just standing in one place waiting for a pass, no other team I have seen all year runs such a motionless offense.
-
OMG. Jones just said we only had 3 assists cause when we were moving the ball around the shots weren't made. What game was he watching the ball never moved from the guy who brought it up. We scored 60+ points and only had 3 assists. I'd say over 50% of our possessions in the 2nd half a pass was not made. I now know what the problem is, coaches are watching a different game than what is actually being played.
-
Im watching. The worst display of team basketball I have ever seen in my life. You are correct 2 assists for 56 points, Huff, Webb and Anderson only touche the ball tonight and never passed to anyone else.
-
Allard with another missed 3. When are the coaches ever going to stop these players from taking shots they cant make. Allard is under 20% for his career. I just dont understand.
-
Wilmer with another 18 footer missed that he should never be taking.
-
That was so ugly. 1 assist and a lot of one on one without any team work.
