  1. Very careless and forcing way to many passes. Jones immediately sat him after his 5th turnover and then put him back in later. He did have like 5 steals but this many turnovers is not good game after game.
  2. I have to agree. Someone posted somewhere, when is this team going to get a break. This team was as close to being 4-2 against a very good non-conference schedule as they are 1-5 heading into this game. Then 3 minutes into this game Brekke goes out with a concussion. There goes are only only good rebounder besides Huff ( who has missed every game but the first one). Whats been our biggest issues so far? Rebounding has cost us 2 games and free throw shooting cost us one game. When Huff gets back and Brekke gets back and Traylor gets more experience I believe the rebounding issue will be resolved. Thats my optimistic view of this team and I believe this is still going to be a very good team come league play. its difficult too make judgement on this team at this point even though the record is a dismal 1-6, but we can make a lot of improvements as I am ready to discuss with or without some of our best players. Now I must criticize what happened last night after having a very good nights rest. NDSU had a very easy time guarding our offense and changes need to be made at this end. I am going to pick on a few players, i'm sorry. Anderson I don't believe sees the floor when he decides to penetrate and throws up junk and falls to the floor creating a 5 of 4 for the other team when he doesn't get his flop call. There are certain players Anderson does not ever see on the floor that are wide open and I'm not going to mention their names but its very obvious. He puts his head down and just drives. Wilmer and Archer are playing some hard minutes but after 5 years they don't have a clue how to box out. Schuler and Antwi are the only ones that can make pull up jumpers on this team from 10-15 feet but no screens are set up for them or plays it appears. NDSU runs thru 2-3 screens being popping out for a wide open shot. We maybe attempt one screen that the defender easily gets around for some reason. They have to create these shots for themselves so lets learn how to set a screen without a foul for them. This game was lost on the boards but again without Brekke, Huff and an experienced Traylor this will continue. This is the good and bad. Also, seeing Huff last night he looked so thin. I would think he is still weeks from being able to play at the level we need him to play.
  3. Back to a point I want to make about Webb. Webb has rested only 7 total minutes in the last 3 games. Too me that is way too many minutes at this level for a point guard to be playing. This could easily be one of the reasons for poor FT shooting at the end and careless turnovers. Coaches, lets give him alittle more rest with Anderson and Antwi at the point so we are strong at the end of these games. Basically we do have 3 solid point guards so no need to play one so many minutes.
  4. Agree that Webb needs more rest. As you said we have Anderson, Antwi and even Schuler can handle the point so Webb does not need to be out handling the ball and playing hard defense for 35-36 minutes a game. Being tired could easily contribute to some of the turnovers and poor FT shooting. As well stated this game came down to free throws and rebounding. The rebounding will improve with Huff and Traylor at full strengh and who would think our best FT shooter last night was Brekke. Was not at the game but watched it and the announcer stated Huff had lost 15 pounds to date, WOW. It will definately take some time for him to be full strength I would imagine. I'm still very optimistic about our chances in the Big Sky.
  5. Great analysis once again. This will again be a very tough game. UMKC is playing very good ball right now and even though its on our home court we will need our A game for a win in this one. Are you sure about Huff getting his wires out this week? Its only been alittle over 2 weeks since his jaw was wired and I thought this process was generally 4+ weeks. Hope you are right but sounds way too soon.
  6. Nice. Is this your first post on the basketball forum? UND played a great game last night against a quality team on the road and lost on a hail mary shot and you want Jones fired. Team is shaping up for a big run in the conference.
  7. Sorry but I dont believe that second line of yours. Whats going to be interesting is when Huff comes back, yes he will be in the starting linup but where does Schuler go. In his 4 starts for Huff he has numbers better than Huff ever has. Schuler is shooting55% from the field, 41% from 3, 75% from the line and is averaging 12.2 pts/game and his assist to turnover ration is 3 to 1. Those are very impressive and numbers Huff has never gotten to, except scoring. I know Huff will start but Jones has a big decison on what to do with Schuler. In fact the lineup change Jones did last night appeared to work very well and maybe further changes are coming. Now that these players are beginning to come together can Huff play unselfish cause if he doesnt I know who will quickly be in for him. Sportsmatic, you cannot deny that Huff plays very selfish alot of times in every game. If you cant see that then you are not watching the same games as us.
  8. I do think we definately play more as a team cause we have to. However, we do need Huff and what he brings as long as he takes good shots and doesnt try to do to much. Traylor will be a force once he gets more time and I think he is a team player from what I've seen so far. I also believe the Big Sky we will do just fine.
  9. I like the lineup you have posted. Proven big time scoring potential from every position.
  10. I knew I should have stayed up and watched this game. Well, for one thing it proves by our performance in the 2nd half we can play with anybody. At this point all I can do is read what was said and look at the stats. First question, why is Webb shooting so much? He has only 2 shots, a layup and a 30 foot set shot. There is absolutely nothing in between. He handles the ball great but I believe he needs to be more of a true point guard and penetrate and if the lay up is not there dish it. What was up with Wilmer starting? Glad to see the boys brought it back in the 2nd half and hopefully this carries over for the rest of this difficult non conference schedule.
  11. I wonder why suddenly he was red-shirted. Maybe he is just not up to speed at this level and they see potential. Anyone have a inside track on this one.
  12. This game is way past my bedtime. Will have to read about it in the morning. Hopefully the men dont have jet lag nor too sun burnt.
  13. What amazes me about this game is our point guards. Anderson, Webb and Antwi are basically all point guards. The three played together a lot of the game. They shot 9-32 ( team took 52 shots). They were 4-15 from three. The three had 3 assists combined and 5 turnovers. Why are we playing 3 point guards at once and isn't a point guard suppose to get everyone involved in the offense and dish the dimes to the open players. Way too much one on one. Its only going to get tougher in the next month, no easy games at all. No doubt 2 of our key players from the past 2 years are not playing or shooting well. All players need to be evaluated at their position and if this sort of play continues then will the coaches make a change.
  14. Sportsmatic, you must be reading somwhere between the lines. I never said once we are better off without Huff. Read again, I said Huff was our best player but with him out I am OK with the players that are in his place and what they can do. Schuler, Antwi are very disciplined and can make up his points in other ways is what I was saying. It will be difficult without Huff but this team can also play without him when needed. Yes Crown was a no contest game as far as talent but guys like Schuler,Antwi, Traylor can also do very good things when given the opportunity with more playing time and thats what you need from a team when a player goes down. When Huff comes back we will be a stronger team with even more experienced depth.
  15. Okay I may be wrong, but from what I heard Huff is out for several weeks with a broken jaw. Alot of rumors about what happended to him but I think he is out longer than they are saying. Huff is no doubt the best player but when he is out this team plays just fine and as you can tell by looking at the stats there is more passing and assists. If Huff is out for awhile we have the disciplined players that can make up the difference in other ways. I'm not worried one bit. Hopefully Nash can join the team but everyone talks like he is a superstar. He only scored like 4 pts/game for Tech on a very bad team ( 8 wins) and did not shoot good at all. Yes , he is tall and athletic but lets not make him a superstar until we see him play.
  16. Don't really think a game against a DIII team will show much at all. Any player in the lineup should shine against a team like this. Also, heard Huff is out for several weeks due to injury.
  17. The TV commentators mentioned they played 2 exhibition games plus played 5 games in Europe I believe. That is huge also.
  18. Did not expect us to win the game and was very impressed in how we played in the first half less the last couple of minutes. Then came the 2nd half when we decided to play as individuals and got destroyed. Poor shot selections and one on three stuff. I'm not concerned on our shooting percentage cause those OPEN shots will start falling for our players that need to take them. Anderson and Huff took way too many bad shots, fortunately this did not cause us a win but in tight games in the future it will. From watching what concerns me alot is we still have zero depth at the 5 spot. When Brekke is in foul trouble we will get destroyed. Traylor did a great job at the 4 spot and I assume he will remain there due to Nash being possibly out for the year. So that leaves us Wilmer and Archer at the 5 backup, no change from last year. The Big Sky schedule will test Brekke due to his undersize going against bigger and stronger bigs to see if he can stay in the game. When he's not in the game its bad news. Looking forward to the stretch of games beginning at Northern Iowa to see how this team and COACHES respond. Coaches need to get the right players shooting the right shots now, not later as in the past.
  19. Have my sources. Unfortunately is true.
  20. Nash is not travelling with the team to Kansas. Team left this morning.
  21. My source tells me that we played Nebraska-Omaha from the summitt and it was no contest. We beat them easily. No numbers or what each player did but it sounded like a solid performance from the entire team. Go Sioux
  22. Don't know how the practicing has been going but heard a few things. Benton is injured with a knee injury I believe and hasn't practiced much and Anderson has been nursing a sore ankle but practicing lately. Scrimmage this Sunday at Sioux Falls.
  23. Benton is known for his defense and jumping in high school. He averaged less than 10 pts a game so I don't think he is an offensive specialist. As far as starting I don't know who he would start for. I'd say he would be back up at maybe the 3 at best. A lot of returning players that are proven for 2 years and some very good new players that have transferred. Tough line-up to crack.
