Agreed. Nothing could be more irrelevant than a #1 ranking in October. I'm looking for improvement from here on out. I think the guys that are saying they didn't know how to react to the new rules are somewhat accurate, but I said earlier that the big problem was a complete lack of intensity which translated to no transition, poor passing and pass selection and too many turnovers.

I guess I started this thread to discuss ways to get people into the game and cheer more. I for one would be very pissed if you stood up in front of me for the entire game. Do you stand up when you watch a footgame at home??? I'm talking about between puck drops, during organized cheers, etc. Not for the whole game...That said, if you come to a college game, expect to see college students that cheer and stand up from time to time. The students provide the atmosphere and flavor.

Can you be throw out of the Ralph for cheering??? You'd think so in my section. What a dead crowd last night. I felt very conspicuous when, for example, the sioux would clear the puck on a penalty kill and I'd have the nerve to stand up and cheer. Several times I'd stand up between drops and try to get the crowd to stand with me. About half would... The team feeds on the crowd to some extent and helps build momentum - I remember a number of come-from-behind third periods where the more the crowd roared, the better the sioux played...Of course I'm speaking to the choir here, but it very frustrating to see all these people with lower bowl tickets sitting on their hands all night.

I was at the game in my usual seat, four rows above the sioux bench. From that vantage point, this was probably as ugly an offensive effort as I have ever seen. EVERY and I mean EVERY pass for the last 10 minutes of the first, the first 10 minutes of the second and nearly the whole 3rd period was two feet behind it's intended recipient. That's why they couldn't get anything happening. They turned the puck over twice in their own zone in the span of about 3 minutes and I don't know how the Gophs didn't score. Everyone in the building, including the gophers, thought they had scored a goal - gophers were just about to start the group celebration when the puck popped out and the "goal" was waived off. At least the TV guy didn't do the replay like he did last year when Mich Tech hit the pipe... Genoway's goal was the best of the evening. The gophs hit the pipe twice in the game (and maybe three times) and the Sioux were lucky to get out of there with a win. Without Parise and alot of luck, they would have lost ugly. But it was the passing....it was awful...really awful. And one more thing - Anderson is pathetic. A couple of his calls were absolutely ridiculous. The first of the two penalties at the end of the 1st was very questionable - the second was not. Then, before the sioux could touch up for a whistle, the D must have hammered that poor gopher bastard six or seven times. Every time he got up off the ice - Greene or Jones would crush him again -why not since it kept it to a 5 on 4. That gopher player had alot of heart to keep getting up - you have to admire that in him... Rex.....

I've got the Deja Sioux sign we used for the Michigan Tech series...if the Sioux win tonight, that one might be appropriate to hold up...

Big Fargo Forum article on the Gophers that featured Ryan Putolny and Danny Irmen this morning. It's great to see such great coverage of the only major college team in North Dakota. There was barely a mention of the Sioux team except to say they were going to be the Gopher opponent. Last weekend the Forum devoted an incredible four column inches to the Sioux. I had to search all over to find the score of the game Sunday - barely a mention in the sports page. When will the Fargo Forum wake up and see that there are at least as many UND grads reading their paper as NDSU grads and far more than those allied with the UofM. Sioux envy can only explain it. I'd bet money, marbles and chalk that the Star-Tribune will have better coverage of the Sioux hockey team this year.

I liked last year's sign for Putolny's... "Wanted for Treason" with their pics on it. Could be modified to ad Fargo's Danny Irmen...
-
Obviously it's the Gophers...As an aside, did anyone check out those exciting Devils Lake Vacations???
-
I'm a little concerned after last weekend. I hope to see a team ready to play hard. I predict a split - Ryan Putolny will follow up his brother's legacy of always being in the right place at the right time, only double - he's much better. But I don't know if the Gophers can get enough balance and our D should take care of business on their younger team...but still, I'm concerned...someone make me feel more confident...

It still doesn't change the fact that no matter how many times NDSU beats a team like Carson, they're going nowhere in their division and have zero chance at post season play - and that's a shame. NDSU could have had a Nat'l Championship contending team this year and that team has been wasted at the expense of the fans who won't even realize it until UND is advancing and the Bison season is over. If UND plays for and/or wins a D2 Nat'l Championship, all the Bison fans will be able to say is "we could've done that"...which is really lame. That goes to your comment re: how the Bison could kill all the D2 teams which is simple speculation on your part and very doubtful at best.
-
Somehow I knew that a Bison fan would be on here talking about how yesterday's game proves they could now kill every DII team. It was one game and the Bison won. I think we should send them the Nickel since it would now be unnecessary to play for it. The Bison have a good team this year and would have been a contender in DII. Believe me, that would have been more exciting for you Bison guys than beating up the little guys all season.

Questions from a Gopher fan heading to NoDak!
Supertrex replied to FIRE HELMET GUY #26's topic in Men's Hockey
We like Dagwoods the best, mainly because it is SMOKE FREE. The atmosphere is good, and I always seem to see people I know. The waitresses are nice looking and do a good job of keeping us in beer. We welcome fans for the opposition since it gives us an easy target for good-natured jokes after the game... -
I care about this game...I want to know the date so I can be sure to what the Bison receive the old Valpo treatment....
-
You make it seem like NDSU has been invited to join the Big Sky...you know that's not true...you make it seem like a foregone conclusion that NDSU will get a conference affiliation because they started the process before UND and that's not true either...NDSU needs UND to go D1-AA in football or NDSU might be the ones living in "no conference hell" for eternity. I predict that they go into a conference together...For me, next year wouldn't be soon enough. I see only upside for a UND move up and in fact for both schools and the entire state.

Something tells me you're not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. Look guys, we have a fourth grader among us...

I'm very impressed by your national coverage...let's see what channel is that on??? Channel two seventy what? Is the game on live, or will the be airing it at say 2:30am Sunday morning??? Let's hope the game isn't interrupted by extended coverage of the National Bochi Ball payoffs because everyone in America expects to see the newly crowned National Powerhouse, the NDSU Bison as they dominate opponent after opponent...

Personally, I can't wait for UND to move up. It will happen sooner than you think but the Alerus will have to be expanded for seating capacity (if economically possible) and improved as to atmosphere and amenities. I will be in Fargo, LMAO if UND goes D1AA and enters a conference before NDSU. It could happen (but is, of course, unlikely yet still very funny to contemplate - could you imagine the NDSU reaction??? Talk about your envy). But you should be glad that UND didn't go at the same time as NDSU because UND's upward move would have overshadowed NDSU's much needed sideshow that upstaged the reality at NDSU - NDSU's teams weren't much to write home about the past few years, especially when compared to that relatively minor league team located 70 miles north. And you should be happier yet that NDSU didn't have to compete against UND for the same football recruits. I don't think that it would have turned out so good for NDSU. So anyway, now that NDSU is playing "real" competition, football will rule the Fargo news scene at the expense of all other sports. And that's really too bad. Actually, the Fargo paper will get pretty boring to read as they attempt rehash old football stories over and over again, day after day, looking for any angle to make D1AA football interesting to the reader. Hell, they can't even do an opening day story without talking about the old UND rivalry and taking a shot at UND. The sad reality will always be that any real D1 team could destroy NDSU's only remaining athletic team on the field. Meanwhile in GF, a competitive and winning football program will rule the fall and Men's Hockey and Women's BB will rule the winter and spring as usual. So I think NDSU is the real loser since, in their envy, they went off half-cocked and ended "up the creek" without a conference....UND will move up, but will do so in a thoughtful way that will allow competition to continue (they'll be in a conference day one and maybe even before NDSU - again, let's all pray for this final, cruel irony). P.S. - Too bad Valpo won't be coming back for a basketball game. I wonder if the score would be reversed, say maybe Valpo 103 NDSU 12...
-
The dome attendance record is still a 2002 D2 game between UND and NDSU. NDSU all but gave the tickets away to get people in the door. Let's look at the attendance after the shine wears off. Keep playing teams like that and attendance will drop like a rock. Play real teams and the attendance might be there as NDSU wins, otherwise, your "major league" team will draw next to nobody and Zeigler will devote about as much space to your team as the Star-Tribune...

I think this should be investigated and the person responsible should be prosecuted. It is a crime to do what he is doing. Nobody know what he intends to do with the passwords, etc. but I think we shouldn't let this loser go...CableOne can trace this to the person and we should have them do this...

I wonder if they'd be willing to give back a couple of Grant Potulny's goals last season... Especially the one in the Frozen Five...

"My 19 years at UND have prepared me for the next challenge," Blais said. There are few guys at the my old fraternity house that have said the same thing. Their problem was they were students the whole time...Good luck to Dean. We'll see you at the Frozen Four in Columbus cheering on the Sioux...

Ooops. I took my quote from the Pioneer...the StarTrib probably had better coverage. The Pioneer article implied that Wheeler's future with the Gophers might be in doubt, but then, I think your statements make more sense. Anyway, it would be fun to see him play for MN so he can get a feel for what it's like to lose to the UND stars before he faces them in the pros...
-
I'll paraphrase a quote from the Great One in the Star Tribute "We're (Phoenix) in no hurry here. We'll let him (Wheeler) finish grade 12 and then see what it looks like from there." Sounds like Wheeler has as good a chance of going MJ or directly to Phoenix as he does Minnesota...He's a junior in high school, is 6'4" and weighs 195 - think about it...He's a foot taller than ol' what's-his-name at AA...

I can't believe the papers missed this headline: "The Blaiser is a Blue Jacket"...Congrats to DB - we're going to miss him...
