The suspension will retroactively be set to begin on the first game of the Senators’ season. Pinto won’t be able to return to the lineup until Jan. 21 in Philadelphia — Ottawa’s 42nd game.

As a 10.2(c) RFA, Pinto has very limited rights in free agency but does not need to be under contract by Dec. 1 in order to be eligible to play during the 2023-24 season, as Group 2 RFAs do.

    From Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman:

The NHL will suspend unsigned Ottawa Senators centre Shane Pinto 41 games on Wednesday for violating league gambling rules, multiple sources told Sportsnet.

Critically, the league did not accuse of Pinto of wagering on NHL games, as a memo sent in March 2022 reminded all league and club personnel — including players — that wagering on any NHL game, even where legal, is “absolutely prohibited,” and will “constitute conduct that is dishonourable, prejudicial to, or against the welfare of the League or the game of hockey” under the NHL’s constitution.

The memo added that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is authorized to “discipline individuals determined to have engaged in improper gambling activities in any or all of the following respects:” expulsion or suspension a definite or indefinite period; cancelling any contract that such individual may have; and/or by imposing a fine. “The League will act swiftly and aggressively in penalizing any League or Club personnel determined to have engaged in acts in violation of the NHL Gambling Policy,” the policy states.

Did Albrecht red shirt his freshman year when he never drew in?

    Yep, redshirt.

He’s most likely leaving….but it wouldn’t be a terrible idea. I’m guessing he most likely won’t carve out an NHL role…he’ll play a ton of AHL hockey and European hockey. Which is great to be honest. Why not play another year? I get it though, players need to chase their dreams.

I agree, Gabert is currently 24 years old, the chances aren't good.

There was one power play in the third period for UND that comes to mind where they did all the right things but score. I recall Berg camped out in front of Close and getting a couple nice looks where Close just stoned us.

Justen Close was really good this past weekend. He was very sound positionally. Berry gave him a lot of credit in the post-game pressers both nights. Both goalies were really good.

An old WCHA foe comes calling.  They just got swept by UMASS, we split with the rightful #1 team.

Thoughts?  @Goon wants a sweep, I just want everyone to have fun.

Hedquist on Saturday after we win 5-1 on Friday?  Ja?

@Wilbur I agree with you; everyone please have fun and enjoy the season.

Maybe @Wilbur just wants everybody to have fun, but these are two non-conference games that will have PWR implications come March.

As @Goon likes to say: Anything less than a sweep is unacceptable.

Yep, 100 percent; "anything less than a sweep is unacceptable."

Agreed. Alex reminded the viewer this weekend about how UND was only 70 seconds away from sweeping the Gophers last year but if we’re being honest with ourselves, Minnesota dominated play for much of that weekend. If not for cashing in on timely power plays and DeRitter saving our bacon, things probably would’ve been different.

This year’s UND team looks faster, deeper offensively and much more responsible defensively.

And stronger defensively. They also seem to be more committed to blocking shots.

he definitely came back because he took a penalty after that blocked shot.

He tried coming back but must have been pretty banged up.

Bennett Zmolek, UND's time on ice leader through the first three games, was injured blocking a shot and didn't come back.

"It was a hard shot," Berry said. "If anybody knows Bennett Zmolek, he tried to come back, and if you don't come back in the game, he must have been really hurting. He's played through that a little bit this year."

He came back, but didn’t notice him playing down the stretch. I was surprised Benoit was playing down the stretch, and then was looking for Zmolek.  Benoit certainly didn’t look out of place.  Nice we could get it done without Pehrson and Zmolek and a non-existent power play.

Zmolek blocked a puck and went down the tunnel and didn’t come back.

It appears to me our recruiting, has really dropped off and you could tell last night, but as Sony Stu would say he’s excited about our upcoming classes as an every classes

Are you still drunk? This year's freshmen and the incoming classes are going to be very good. I recommend listening to Schlossman's podcast. He's has a pretty good handle of the recruiting.

I think the lack of a returning D corps showed. There are some decent guys back there and it will get better. Goaltender was solid.  We have to be less stubborn up front and be willing to chip it in and go get it when the play isn’t there. Also shoot more!

If you go back and watch the fourth goal, Persson made the save, no one was near or challenged the Gophers shooter. They didn't clear the puck. That can be fixed. The Gophers played well last night, they got in the lanes and challenged the UND shooters all night long. I expect things will be better tonight.

  13. While it wasn't a rivalry game per say, the regional game between Minnesota and Holy Cross. I remember going to the KFAN remote out at the Long-Haul Saloon, and everyone on the Gopher side looked past the Crusaders. It was on and on about UND had no chance the mighty Gophers and Michigan was probably going to win.  I remember, the game, I went with a buddy of mine that was a Gopher fan. After the Gophers lost in OT, I remember going to the bathroom. I was trying to use the facilities and this pathetic Gopher fan comes up to me, and says "we would have won." I laughed at him and said, Skippy your team is already on the bus ride home. Please go away so I can finish my business. I remember how loud the arena was after the game and it never quieted down. Michigan came out and UND drilled them 5-0.
