I honestly cannot get excited about staying out of the Summit League cellar. There is no buzz with either basketball program right now. It's very depressing.

We don't need to have the name to get back to playing that style again. I think we all know the change that must be made.

Maybe the idea wouldn't work. I fully acknowledge that. My concern is that this athletic department seems chained to the old formula of season tickets, Champions Club donations and 50/50 raffle tickets. That worked just fine in Division 2. It is barely adequate for Division 1. NIL is a fluid and ever changing issue that will probably continue evolving (or devolving depending on your point of view). The collective should have been started much sooner, but I am very excited about it being in place. I don't necessarily put the NIL issue on the athletic department because they have very little control over it. Finding revenue streams to support the ever increasing cost of scholarships, FCOA and whatever else comes up in the coming years is my main concern for UND athletics.

Change is hard for human beings in general. We are creatures of habit. But it is essential we change with changing times.

I believe you are correct.

We cannot continue to run the athletic department like we still have NCC Men-Women basketball double headers at Hyslop on Friday and Saturday nights. I don't know how much money selling merchandise would bring in, but we shouldn't just dismiss unorthodox ideas out of hand just because "it isn't what we've always done". College athletics continues getting more and more expensive and new revenue streams must be found.

We haven't lost a home first round playoff series since 1996. If we manage to earn home ice (not likely, but not impossible), that streak would likely end.
