The bar for NDSU quarterbacks has been set. And it's pretty high. If they don't lead the team to a National Championship or get drafted in the first round of the NFL, they are busts. Harsh, but it is the expectations Bison fans have become accustomed to this past decade. So naturally they think any recruit or transfer is going to be great. Just look at the hype Bison fans were giving Zeb before this season. They were debating whether Zeb would come back for his "super Senior" season or declare for the NFL draft!! Bison will be good. Will they be great and make another run to Frisco? That is to be determined. And, not necessarily a sure thing.

Missouri State vs UND 4/24/21 1st Round Playoff Game
Siouxperfan7 replied to SiouxFan100's topic in Football
https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/football/6997541-Five-things-to-know-about-UND-footballs-playoff-opponent-Missouri-State#.YIJAmMofupQ.twitter A big factor for this game is who will be under center for the Bears. 3. We still don't know Missouri State's QB It remains a guessing game who Missouri State will start at quarterback. The Bears have rotated between Jaden Johnson and Matt Struck. Struck suffered a concussion in Missouri State's final game against Youngstown State and didn't participate in workouts last week. Struck was the Idaho State quarterback in 2019 when UND was beat 55-20 in Pocatello. Struck was 23-for-41 passing for 396 yards and five touchdowns in that game. This year, Struck has played in six games and is 41-for-64 passing for 477 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson has played in seven games. He's 92-for-165 for three touchdowns to six interceptions. Johnson, a Southern Miss transfer, is considered more of the running threat, as he has carried 87 times for 76 yards. Struck has carried 18 times for 15 yards. -

You are both right. -
Some might think that our offense is going to come out slow after the long layoff. But I think our guys are going to come out of the gates firing! This team not only has had to wait 5 weeks between games, but are coming off a loss where they want to get right back out there and prove they are a good team. This team plays great at home, especially this season. Prediction a hot start then just pounding the ball as the game progresses. Missouri St has had a good spring, but they have played mediocre against some average to poor teams. Time to show them who the real Valley Champion is this year!!! 31-17 HAWKS!!!

2021-22 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
Siouxperfan7 replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
So on October 2nd we get to beat the Bison in football and the Bisons in hockey, all on the same day!! -
I sure hope they don't take pictures on the sacred Bison logo at midfield if they win. Phil Hansen might lose it!

Sam Herder ranks the playoff fields chance to win the Championship this year. Has UND smack dab in the middle of the pack. https://herosports.com/fcs-football-favorites-spring-national-champion-bzbz/ 8. North Dakota UND last played on March 20. Will there be rust? Probably not, honestly. SDSU looked great last weekend against NDSU after four weeks between games. JMU looked great in a March 27 win against William & Mary after three weeks off and against Richmond on April 17 after another few weeks off. The Fighting Hawks should come out on fire at home, where they haven’t lost since 2018. Playing fellow MVFC co-champ Mo State isn’t ideal, but UND is in a good spot to win its first-ever FCS playoff win. A quarterfinal game at JMU is a different story.

Continuing to inspire. Can’t say enough about this young man.

Missouri State vs UND 4/24/21 1st Round Playoff Game
Siouxperfan7 replied to SiouxFan100's topic in Football
This year was a year they could have seeded the entire field given the circumstances. Home field in football is so much bigger than any other sport. Would love to see the top 16 seeded every year moving forward, but that would require the NCAA to do something logical. -
Missouri State vs UND 4/24/21 1st Round Playoff Game
Siouxperfan7 replied to SiouxFan100's topic in Football
It's been like that forever it seems. I think they should always seed the top 16 teams every year and the highest team hosts. But the NCAA wants to make as much money as possible, so they use the current system. -
Missouri State vs UND 4/24/21 1st Round Playoff Game
Siouxperfan7 replied to SiouxFan100's topic in Football
SDSU's last game before playing the Bison was on March 20th. a 28 day layoff between games. Our last game was also March 20th. We will have a 35 day layoff between games. SDSU was able to overcome that and have a pretty dominating performance against a top ranked Bison team. Hopefully we can do the same. -

Higher seeded teams host. Seeded teams host over unseeded teams. If two unseeded teams are set to play, highest bid hosts. So our bid would need to be bigger than VMI. -

SDSU is the autobid. And they just beat the #2 team in the country. -
Jacks celebrating with the Marker at midfield and taking pictures. This is what the Bison radio guys say; “This is bordering on inappropriate. There’s a lot of reasons I don’t like this program and this is one of them.” Now they know how the rest of the FCS has felt this past decade!!

UND planning for full sports crowds in the fall, but ready to 'pivot' if needed https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/hockey/6987555-UND-planning-for-full-sports-crowds-in-the-fall-but-ready-to-pivot-if-needed "We are going as if everything will be a full go," UND athletic director Bill Chaves said. "That is our anticipation. That's how we're selling our venues at this point. That's our default position. If we have to pivot, we would. But right now our assumption is we're selling full venues."

Which is why the MVFC needs to make changes this summer to penalize any team that chooses to forgo their season without a valid reason (Covid really being the only one, but that is not going to be an issue this fall.....hopefully). A bad precedent has been set.

I think it's up to 30 states now. The NCAA is going to run into some big problems and several lawsuits from a lot of states if they plan on going forward with banning post season tournaments in those states.
-
No doubt. There is a thread every year for hockey titled "Early Departures" on this site. Might as well get one going every year for basketball because it's going to be the same thing. I hate the new rule change. The mid majors are performing at an all time high right now in the tournament. now, every successful mid major in the tournament will have their best players leave and go to a bigger program. Even teams that don't make the tournament. the process is so much easier now. If you are a kid playing in the Summit League and the Big 10 or the Big 12 offer you a spot on the team, why wouldn't you go!!

North Dakota Senate sends transgender athlete bill to Gov. Doug Burgum's desk https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/government-and-politics/6986821-North-Dakota-Senate-sends-transgender-athlete-bill-to-Gov.-Doug-Burgums-desk So if Bergum signs this bill, what will this mean for UND and NDSU specifically in regards to NCAA post season games being played in ND? This bill is different from the one in Montana mentioned above because it affects only K-12 and not college. But that doesn't mean the NCAA can't do whatever the hell they want.
