  1. Is yours finalized yet? Can't wait to renew a rivalry I remember from the 70's! We're already making plans for the return trip to Grand Forks in 2013. It's only an hour farther for me than going to Bozeman!

We're bringing a bus with about 50 diehard NE Mont Bobcat Fans! Welcome to the BSC!!

I am already liking these Big Sky Fans!! Bring a bus, come to GF, we will show you a fun time. We can be friends before and after the game...just not during!!! Great to be part of a conference with good classy fans!!

  2. With the "Sioux Crew" changing its name to "Nodak Nation", how about The University of North Dakota Nodaks? Keep the interlocking ND as the logo and incorporate the name "Nodaks" in script for the jerseys. This may have been mentioned before, but its a thought.

  3. It is unfortunate that this game is on a Tuesday, but that still doesn't mean that there shouldn't be a good crown there. How many people have plans on Tuesday nights in January? Not very many. Unless it is 10 below with a 30 below windchill, there is no reason why there should be a decent crowd. I am very curious to see the student section at this game. There were at least 100 or more UND students at the game last year in Fargo. this game is within walking distance from campus. There is nothing going on Tuesday night so I don't want to here any excuses from anyone why they can't be at the game, students or anyone else. We have a good young team that will be a contender in the Big Sky next year. Time for people to get out and see a game. this is a great chance against an old rival.

  4. kliensasser was an average nfl player.

Joe Mays & Craig Dahl started as many games as him and made more of an impact in the last 2 years.

That's your opinion, but Kleinsasser has been an impact player in the NFL for 13 seasons. Lets just see how long Mays and Dahl last. Peterson has rushed for over 6700 yards in his 5 years as a pro. Pretty sure Kleinsasser had a little to do with that. If you disagree than you flat out don't know football. You don't have people referring to you as "the best blocking TE in the NFL right now" without making somewhat of an impact.

Tough to compare guys that play a different position, but you don't need to rip on the guy becasue he played college for a school you don't like.

  5. In my best Homer Simpson voice, "Stupid naming rights contract."

There are a number of college football stadiums that have corporate names: Minnesota, Louisville, Oregon State and Texas Tech come to mind. I cant think of any that give the corporate name center field logo positioning (if any at all). Lame.

Agreed. We all know where we are playing. Keep it simple. North Dakota in each end zone, Big Sky logo's on each side of the field, and the interlocking ND at the center of the field. Don't know why the Alerus Center logo's have to be so big and at midfield.

Same problem at the Fargodome. The Fargodome logo extends from one 25 yard line to the other. looks really lame. Every other team in college football has their team logo in the middle of their football field. Not sure why both North Dakota schools get the shaft from their buildings!!

  6. One of the best hockey game I have ever attended was during my freshmen year at UND in 1998. The gophers were in town for a rare Saturday/Sunday afternoon series. We had just beaten the Gophers the previous day and the crowd at the old Engelstad was buzzing before the game anticipating the sweep. That was quickly silenced as we failed to score in the first two periods and had fallen behind 3-0. I was not looking good until around the 10 minute mark of the 3rd when we finally scored. The place was just bursting to celebrate and it finally did when we got that first one. That pretty much opened the floodgates as we scored 2 more goals within 4 minutes. But when Jason Blake came out of the penalty box and scored a breakaway goal to give us a 4-3 lead, the roof came off the building. Loudest I have heard the Old Ralph ever!! My head hurt from yelling and screaming so loud. We added one more and won the game 5-3. It was a great comeback game against our biggest rival, and probably the most momorable Sioux hockey game I have attended in person.

  7. Agree 100%, and I will say the same when (not If) UND wins a I-AA championship.

If you want to be taken seriously, you need to get educated. 1-AA hasn't existed for at least 7 years now. It is called FCS now. If you want to sound like you know something about college football, you should ACTUALLY know some things about college football. The FBS and FCS, kind of a big thing in the sport.

  8. Also, why in the heck are they playing this game in a soccer stadium? A real D-I championship should be played in a real football stadium. Again, not a true D-I championship. Just a lower tier championship.

You know, just because you think something is true, doesn't make it fact. Facts are hard to dispute. I know it must be hard for you to comprehend fact, because you have struggled epically today. But the fact that NDSU and Sam Houston are both Division 1 schools playing for the Division 1 FCS National Championship is indisputable. What part of "Division 1" don't you get??

But hey, I guess you can say whatever you want and believe it. Maybe get out of your moms basement, go upstairs and ask her what she thinks? Maybe she agrees with you!! Would be the only one who does.

  9. Nope. DI Football Championship SUBDIVISION Champions. (Which is saying, not really D-I champions...)

Remember when Wyoming was 4-8 a few years ago. A bad FBS team. Remember which #1 ranked FC subdivision team they beat? Why, it was the Bison. It was one of their four wins that year. Close, but no cigar for the Herd.

Hey, I'm cheering NDSU. But, they aren't winning a real D-I championship. That's the 'Bama/LSU game.

And the Subdivision that NDSU and Sam Houston plays in is called the Football CHAMPIONSHIP Subdivision. So how can you honesly think that a subdivision with the word "Championship" in the name is not considered a real Championship??

  10. Nope. DI Football Championship SUBDIVISION Champions. (Which is saying, not really D-I champions...)

Hey moron, The FBS stands for Football Bowl SUBDIVISION!!! So the Alabama / LSU game is a Subdivision championship as well!!

  11. It was a division II championship. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with a FCS championship either. But, it's not the highest level of competition. It's not a true D-I championship. It's a lower tier championship.

Sorry bud. But The NCAA trophy that they give out says "Division 1 Football National Champion" on it. You can deny it all you want but it is legit. You do realize how dumb you sound right?

  12. If they win, it's not really a D-1 title anyway. FBS is the true D-1 in football.

Actually, there is only 1 Division 1 Championship trophy awarded by the NCAA, and that goes to the winner of the FCS National Championship. Will you see LSU or Alabama hoisting the familiar NCAA Championship trophy this year? No. They will be getting the Coaches Trophy that the FBS gives out. The FBS National Championship game was determined by polls, opinions, and a computer. The FCS National Championship game was determined by a month long playoff. So really, one could argue that the winner of the Sam Houston/NDSU game is the true D1 Champion!!

  13. Not that it matters since the Big Ten wont have a neutral site tourney, but what makes you convinced that the X would rather host a tourney consisting of UND, CC, DU, SCSU, etc compared to a tourney with Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Michigan State? Attendance obviously wouldn't be an issue with The Gophers there.

I didn't think the Gophers played in post season tournaments anymore!! :)

  14. While I am a huge Sioux fan and always will be I for one will be pulling for the Bison and I'm not an arrogant fan thank you.

I'm sorry, but you cannot say "I am a huge Sioux fan" and "I for one will be pulling for the Bison" and be cosidered a huge Sioux fan. Please clear out your desk and leave your Sioux fan ID badge at the door. You cannot be a true Sioux fan and cheer for the Bison. I don't want to hear all this "cheer for your state" and "state pride" BS. Even though we haven't played them in FB for 8 years (hopefully that will change in the future) they are still our rivals. In state rivals in fact. So while you may consider yourself a "Huge Sioux fan", if you cheer for the bison in the National Championship game, you deffinitely are not. don't believe me? Just wait and see how many people agree with me when you get blasted on this board!!

  15. I just absolutely hate the interlocking ND logo. It's not our logo. That is why I suggested putting an outline of the state at midfield.

Hate to break it to you, but it is one of our logos. The interlocking ND has been on the football helmet for years. Even when we adobted the blackhawk, the geometric , and the current sioux logo, the football team used the interlocking ND. It will always be a logo for Sioux football.

  16. As we begin this transition away from the official Fighting Sioux era, I was thinking of starting a thread where everyone can go back and remember their most memorable Fighting Sioux game they either attended or saw on TV, for any sport I think that we could really dig up some great momories of what a great program we have.

I will get it started by telling my greatest Fighting Sioux sports memory. The 2001 football National Championship game in Florence, Alabama against Grand Valley State. We loaded up a car with 5 of us and drove through the night both ways to get there. The morning was dreary and rainy in Florence that day, but that didn't stop everyone that made the trek fom North Dakota to have a huge tailgate party before the game. The game itself was rainy and sloppy. It wasn't looking good for the Sioux late in that game. But that all changed with the final drive where we converted 2 4th downs, the second one being maybe the most famous play in Fighting Sioux history. The 58 yard pass from Klosterman to Schleusner that will go down in the history books as simply "the play." I went from the biggest low to maybe the biggest high I have experienced at any sporting event!! Could not believe my eyes. I actually thought we scorred on the play. When I saw us lining up for a play I was wondering why we were going for 2. By the time I realized that we hadn't scored yet, Perkerewicz was running the ball in the Endzone for a touchdown!!

So after the celebration of scoring that touchdown with under a minute to go, most Sioux fans were making their way to the bottom of the stands to rush the field ofter the game. the last play of the game seemed to last forever as Grand Valley State was lateraling the ball around. When they finally made that final tackle, everybody went crazy!! Fans rushed the filed, players were jumping around, I was waving my flag around. It was a victory over a century in the making. The North Dakota Fighting Sioux football team were the National Champions!!!

I know that I have probably picked one of the most momorable game, but I know that there are other games out there that you all remember that will live on forever. Lets have fun and relive them!!

  17. Best blocking TE in the NFL. Has been for many years now. The Vikings were lucky to have a guy like Jim on their team. I remember watching him play in High School because I had relatives in Carrington and we would catch most of the football game when we were in town. He played offence and defense and was their kicker and punter so he was out there the entire game. It was great to see him play in college and even better that he got drafted by the Vikings and spent his entire career there so we could watch him every Sunday. We will always remember Jim as the guy who made "that play" against the Bison at the Fargodome. That will be engraved in my memory forever!! He was a great player but more importantly a great guy off the field as well. Carrington Cardinal, North Dakota Fighting Sioux, and Minnesota Viking fans should all be proud they had a guy like Jim Kleinsasser to cheer for on their teams.

  18. Saturday NIght, UNO we were up 1-0 with around one minute left and there was a whistle. I stood up for the face off and to cheer and i was told to sit down while they played the "Make Some Noise" Sounder. That was Sad.

Wait...you were cheering at a sporting event? Is that allowed? Don't they prosecute you for doing that??? If the guy would have just waitied, I am guessing you would have probably sat down once the puck dropped!!

  19. Just to get this straight...You are willing to let the nickname and logo go if it means we can find a conference for Football and Basketball, but you want it keep it and hold it in high regard when an R-tard in Fargo who says Sioux Suck...Wow...speechless.

Let's try something. Read what someone responds to you by putting words together to make a sentence. Its a great concept in trying to understand what a person is saying. Did you read when Darell said "When NDSU says the Sioux suck you know they mean the team." NDSU fans will continue to chant this at games. Even through the name will be long gone, everyone knows who they are talking about. So basically saying "Sioux suck" means "UND sucks." And guess what, that pisses people off.

  20. How about sit down so everyone can see :silly:

Unless you are physically unable to stand up or have a hard time doing so, I will continue to stand for scoring plays and exciting moments in the game. You are at a sporting event. If you want to relax in your recliner at home and watch the game with your feet up and a drink in your hand, that's fine. But when you are at the sporting event, get involved in the game and cheer and get excited. Its OK, they allow that. If you do not want to cheer and get excited, why did you come to the game?! There are two type of people that attent sporting events...spectators and fans. I am a fan so I will act like one at a game. For all you spectators out there, try being a fan once. It is much more fun than telling people not to be one.

  21. Yes, I probably should have addressed that in my post. Chances are that date would have been filled by SD Mines, but on the other hand, whether it's SD Mines or some other low-level NAIA or dII school, you'd think UND could buy out an existing contract and bring in this kind of opponent on relatively short notice if all else fell through. If Mines were playing Mayville State in week one, for example, how much would it cost to buy out that contract? Probably not much.

Ultimately, my criticism is that it seems like this game was scheduled too far in advance, as it was announced in March of 2011. In the scheme of things for dI scheduling, maybe that's not really that far in advance...until you consider how quickly Portland State was found after Central Arkansas dropped us. It sounds like that whole thing occurred in a matter of weeks. It would just be interesting to know whether the SD Mines game was just a contingency plan, or whether it was always contemplated that a non-dI was going to be on the schedule.

That is the problem with our athletic department. We are eligible for the playoffs from 2012 and on. There is no reason that there should ever be a non D1 team on our football schedule from now on. Other schools can schedule 4 D1 OAC games every year. Why should UND be any different. While the Mines game is unfortunate to have on our schedule, there is no reason to be playing any D2 or NAIA school from here on out.
