  1. Don't worry guys, this issue is consuming those over there on bisonville as well

    http://www.bisonvill...ison-Sioux-game

Yeah, and they all say No. Which is rediculoous. Most of the comments are stuff like "we do fine without them, we won the Championship" and "If we play them, it needs to be on our terms, in Fargo for EVERY game." Typical banter from B-Ville. Cripes, why did you post a bisonville thread on this site and tempt me to go on there!! :) I am now dumber now for having visited that site!!

  2. All our home games were on TV last year but 1. Where do you get your info??? As far as exposure we have all we want. I think all but 1 or 2 games were on TV last year home and away...

Local KVLY that is shown throughout the state is a whole lot different than FCS which is broadcasted nationwide. Do you think that is the same?? Not even close!!!

  3. I'm not saying it would be a popular decision, but if the opportunity is there, they should take advantage it. It's typically only done for 1-2 games out of the year which makes it easier for most people to accept.

UND did it several years ago for hockey games against Minnesota, Denver, Wisconsin, and maybe Omaha. And guess what, people still paid the extra few dollars for those games and the athletic department benifited. If you don't want to pay the extra money for "premium games" someone else will. NDSU would be crazy not to capatalize on this. Their football stock is pretty high right now. Might as well benifit from it right?

  4. NDSU scheduled to play Robert Morris on Sept 1, same date the Sioux play the Hardrockers. Bison and Robert Morris both have open dates on Sept 22. Perhaps Robert Morris would be willing to move the game against the Bison to Sept 22 freeing up the Sept 1 date for the Bison and Sioux.

    Problem solved. Rivalry renewed.

And the Bison would raise their FCS National Championship banner right in our faces and more than likely beat us. Isn't that ideal for most Bison fans?

  5. Why don't people get it. If we keep the Fighting Sioux we will:

    - get kicked out of the Big Sky as they will not see us a a sactioned school as a viable member

    - become an independent in all sports (except hockey) and face a scheduling nightmare

    - lose recruits because they don't want to play for a school that has sanctions on it and not in a conference

    - never play Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and an ever growing list of schools EVER in any sport

NONE of THAT IS A FACT - & could be delt with if it happened

If you listen to what Fullerton said, he said that they are very concerned with the issue, and can see UND not being a viable member. He said that although it takes a unanimous vote form all schools to remove a member, it is not that difficult to do.

If we are not in the Big Sky, we don't have a conference. There is no Great West after this year and no other conference is looking to expand. Without a conference, we will have to schedule all our games. No gauranteed games with any schools because we have no conference affiliation.

If we don't have a conference, can't host playoff games, end up playing lower quality teams (D2, NAIA), not being able to win a conference tourbnament, what is inticing a young athelete to come to UND? Recruiting will take a huge hit. no denying it.

Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa all have clearly stated they will not play us. that is a FACT. Cold hard fact. Basketball, Football, Hockey, whatever. And other schools are adopting the same policy.

I don't want to have to "deal with it" when these issues come up. It is not worh the risk.

It does not matter what we do with a statewide vote or a constitutional amendment. We have a legally binding settlement with the NCAA. They will hold firm to that. They reaffirmed that last August when the North Dakota delegation met with the President of the NCAA. All of the things mentioned above will happen. That is a fact. Choose to believe it or not.

I have been a fan of the University of North Dakota for as long as I can remember. I love the Fighting Sioux name and all that it represents. I want to keep the name as much as every other supporter. But there comes a time where you need to see what the reprocutions of keeping the name will be. And they are very serious and very real. I am a fan of the Fighting Sioux, but a Fan of the University of North Dakota first. Keeping the name will absulutley kill out athletic department because the things I mentioned above can and will happen.

  7. For a while folks wanted to tip the cap to the second large group to live in this area, namely the Scandenavian / Northern European immigrants. Those folks share a common mythology. The most powerful warrior that Norse/Germanic mythos carried a weapon called Mjolnir.

Officially be the Mjolnir (translation: the crusher).

What is Mjolnir in common language (meaning what could be the alternate name for the teams)? The War Hammer.

(It'd be like "Bison" and "Herd" as some other college.)

But I'm sure the NCAA'd say we'd need family approval from a former UND defenseman with the first name Trevor. ;)

It's not bad, but I still kind of like "Reaper" as it hits both past and present in the region (old harvesters and new UAVs). And yes, the black jerseys would be a whole lot of fun ...

And the most popular song that our teams would hear on the road would be "Don't Fear the Reaper"

  8. This was probably one of the greatest college hockey teams in history. A 40-8 record, a Hobey Baker winner that set the NCAA scoring record that still stands today, WCHA regular season Champsion, WCHA playoff Champion, and NCAA Champion. I doubt we will see another team like this for a long time.

Any word if UND plans on honoring this team this year? They deffinitely deserve it. I really hope UND has something worked out to remember arguably the best Fighting Sioux hockey team ever!!

  9. Grant Shaft. My bad, he's not an UND administrator. Possible that Kelley and Faison echoed his sentiments, but don't know.

Remember when the UND delegation went to Indianappolis to talk to the NCAA about the nickname issue? This was after the law passed. They could care less about the law. They said UND would still be under the sanctions. As for now, nothing is going to change their mind on the issue. Only a legal injunction from the Spirit Lake lawsuit will force them to change their stance on the issue. But don't hole your breathe on that one.

The NCAA has made their point. They have a legally binding settlement that we did not meet its requirement. They will not change their tune on their own accord.

  10. I think we are all discounting the good will that goes along with a championship and the momentum that NDSU has built with season ticket holders.

IMO, NDSU will be in a similar situation to Montana in the next 10 years. Montana stadium capacity is a little over 25k IIRC, but if the capacity was 30k they would still sell out because demand is so high.

The FargoDome will be seen as a liability to attendance within a decade and a game with UND at home will be inconsequential.

The demand is high when you lose only 1 game and you win a National Championship. When you win 3 games in a season, the demand will most certainly go down. It is true at UND and NDSU. Attendance totals for both schools have always been good when the team is winning. But in years like 2009 for NDSU and 2010 for UND, you can see how it takes a hit.

  11. So all we have to do is be in the top 4 and get NDSU unseeded...sounds easy......NOT.

That's all. Unless we still have sanctions against us...then there is no way we could host a playoff game. We would be undefeated, the #1 team in the nation, and have the #1 seed going into the playoffs....but we would have to go on the road for every game. I wonder if the voters of ND will realize that in June?

  12. Is there a chance UND would host a UND-NDSU playoff game? Or will it always be in Fargo because the dome is bigger.

Only way that game would be at the Alerus Center is if we were a seeded team in the playoffs. Top 4 teams get byes and get ranked 1 thru 4. A seeded team will always host over an unseeded team in the playoffs regardless of how bit the opponents stadium is. If both teams are unseeded, than NDSU would likely outbid us, as that is the way sites games between unseeded teams are chosen.

  13. Don't ask the question and then change the parameters once I answer. You asked about Wofford and James Madison, not St. Francis.

Of course there would be more interest in a UND game from casual fans. But, for my part, I would rather see Wofford at home.

Like I said earlier, it gives us more of an idea of where we stand nationally to play teams from the east coast. I get sick of hearing all the CAA teams say that the MVFC is no good, so playing a team from the CAA or the Southern Conference would bring with it some credibility in their eyes.

Wofford, James Madison, St Francis....whatever!!! They are all the same. An out of conference game against a team 1500 miles away. My point is if you are going to schedule a game against a quality FCS opponent, you got one 70 miles away that wants to play you!

  14. Even though no matter what I say you won't believe me, the answer for me is yes. I will go on record as saying that I would rather see either of those teams on our home schedule than UND.

Understand that I am most likely younger than you and the rivalry has been cold for almost a third of my life. NDSU aspires to national prominence and playing those teams any given year moves NDSU closer to their mission than playing UND.

I seriously hope that all Bison fans don't share your same opinion. Wow!!! I don't think I heard about NDSU students standing in line outside the dome 7 hours prior to the St. Francis game!! We have not played for 9 years now. But I gaurantee if we did, things would get heated up again. Heck, if they announced a game in 2015, it would be talked about on message boards, family gatherings, what have you, for the next 3 years!!! Th rivalry will always be there. We just need the game to solidify it!!!

  15. Valid point I suppose, but this is what NDSU fans want and I think the AD wants to continue to work toward. When I say high quality, it doesn't have to be Montana or Montana State. I would be pleased to see any team from the Southern or CAA. Gives us an early idea of how we might match up with teams from out east.

You are telling me that you and other Bison fans would rather play Wofford and James Madison instead of UND?!! Do you really think that?

  16. Of course there is interest, if this game were to be scheduled I would be first in line to get tickets.

Once you have a few season in FCS where you are playoff eligible, UND fans will see why scheduling is done this way. Heck we learned it from Montana.

When you have a tough conference, like MVFC or the Big Sky. Chances are you aren't going to get the autobid every year. Because of that, you want nonconference games that are DI counters and are more easily won games.

So, you have 8 conference games, a "warm-up game", a money game, and another game that NDSU fans have shown interest in being a high quality OOC opponent. Does UND fit that bill? Yes. But if we agree to play the game every year, we take away the flexibility to bring in a high quality FCS team every so often.

Be realistic guys, that is the blueprint for success and we are following it. You'll be doing the exact same thing within 2 years. Watch and see.

The problem with that plan is "high quality" teams have bought out of coming to Fargo. So you end up playing teams like Morgan state and St Francis. What was the last OOC "high quality team" that came to Fargo for a regular season game?? How is that part of the plan working for you?

  17. Do most UND fans not realize that every game is sold out or nearly sold out at the FargoDome?

There is little to be gained financially for NDSU to play UND, wanting the game to be played for other reasons is just fine, but don't continue to use the financial gain argument it doesn't hold water.

Do not tell me that NDSU did not benifit financially from UND games at the Fargodome in the past. Look at the top 10 most attended games at the Fargodome. Pretty sure that at least half are for the UND games.

  18. Play the game. Do it every other year, in Fargo and Grand Forks. Both schools will benifit from it as they will have a scheduled non conference game every other year. Both schools will make money from hosting the game as it will be the biggest regular season game of the year. But more importantly it will benifit the fans of these two schools. The majority of fans on both sides want to see this game played and want to continue what was one of the longest college football rivalries in history!!

  19. To sum up....The Big Sky is watching very closely how UND is affected now by the sactions that are imposed on them. If they feel that they are not a viable member, the can and WILL vote UND out of the Big Sky Conference. That is a fact. Its time to face reality. Under sanctions, we will most deffinitley feel the affects of it. The ability to schedule games will suffer, recruiting will suffer. In my opinion there is a better chance that we will be kicked ou of the BIG SKY with the name than there is we won't.

  20. Just listened to Fullerton on KGFO. To sum up, he basically said that he expects North Dakota to be in the Big Sky starting this summer when we pay our initial dues and compete next year in all athletics. He said that the University will be able to compete with the sanctions and if they can survive then there will not be a problem. But he said that that happening was not very realistic. Once North Dakota does not appear to be an asset to the Big Sky, then they can at any time choose to vote them out. Also said that getting a majority is not that hard to do when all of the Presidents are together. Says they are very common. So while he said that they are not going to get kicked out now, the possibility is certainly very very real.
