My point is what you said. No matter what nickname and logo were selected, it was always destined to have opposition to it no matter what it was.For many, the Fighting Hawks name and logo is the visual representation of the fact the Fighting Sioux nickname is gone and never coming back. It represents all that went wrong in trying to obtain the Sioux name and the shortfalls UND had in gaining approval not just in the 3 year time as outlined by the settlement, but decades before. It reminds them every day the flawed process of trying to select a unique name with significance to the school and state and then coming up with a generic name. The reason why there are many that have yet to accept the name is they are relating all that history of the nickname dispute and focusing all that anger, frustration, anger, etc to the Fighting Hawks name and logo. People need to separate one from the other.

McMurry University was also on the NCAA list in 2005 that eventually changed its nickname. They went with a version of Hawks as well. Honest question. Is their logo so much better than the Fighting Hawks logo? Had UND chosen a logo like this, would it have been widely accepted and virtually eliminate the #siouxforever crowd? Would fans be demanding that it be on the front of the hockey jerseys?

Spending time and money going through the long drawn out process again that will result in the same reaction from the anti new nickname fanbase is not something UND is willing to do. It's not going to happen.

Well if voting starts Monday, I would assume they would be released pretty soon so people have time to analyze each choice and debate the pros and cons of each option *edit: bitch about the choices.

Voting will open for all students Monday, April 30 at 10 a.m. and will close Wednesday, May 2 at 9 p.m. The winning design will be announced on Thursday, May 3.

The sky is blue, winters suck in North Dakota, Trump is President, and the Fighting Hawks name is here to stay. Time to accept reality. If that is too much for you to handle, find your nearest safe space where you can make up your own reality. Maybe someday you can come out and be ready to live in the real world. End rant.

They aren't giving the students more lower seats. That is for sure. Given what is happening in Fargo at NDSU football games, I would not be surprised if they moved the students out of 108 and 109 and opened that up to sell to high donating Champions Club members. Put the students all on one level in 307, 308, 309, 310.

What's silly is that there is still continues to be a nickname issue when it should be resolved by now.

The gesture was 100% authentic and a great way to show support for a hockey team during a difficult time. I think what people are having issue with the tweet from Hayden was that he was representing the University of North Dakota hockey team as the Fighting Sioux. The student athletes are the ones that compete for the school and wear the name and logo on their jerseys and compete under that identity. The fact that a UND hockey player doesn't identify with the name he plays for is what the issue is. What is frustrating is how virtually every other athletic program at UND has embraced the Fighting Hawks name and logo. that is very apparent when you look at players/coaches/etc tweets and comments. When it comes to the hockey program, they are not like that at all. And that is why people take issue with tweets like this.

Once you catch a shirt from a t shirt cannon being shot by the new Fighting Hawks mascot, that will change your mind!!

Yep. If I was an NDSU student, I would b pretty upset. Imagine if UND/Ralph decided they were taking away the lower bowl student sections 108 and 109!! Really I am surprised they haven't done so already.
