  1. I don't like that argument just because hockey is second-tier in terms of coverage and popularity. I think FCS football and NCAA hockey are realistically on the same level. For example, ESPN would rather cover FCS football than go over NCAA hockey scores. There just is very limited NCAA hockey interest across the nation - it is what it is. Football and basketball on the other hand could break new grounds for UND athletics on a national scale.
  2. He never played a game for Kansas due to injury. And Kansas would do just fine in the MVFC. And one more point - the mighty Ag school barely surpassed Kansas and Kansas State. This year, with no Brock Jenson and company, they wouldn't stand a chance vs quality Big 12 competition. So stop trying to make the MVFC look like an FBS conference. They had only 2 playoff teams last season and one of them was destroyed by a Big Sky team. It'll be interesting to see the Ag school vs actual FBS competition this year in Iowa State.
  3. One of the most idiotic things I've ever read. UND will always be a top hockey school given the tradition and facilities. The coach is only a piece of the puzzle. NDSU is a good football school, but their success is based on coaching. Without Bohl, who knows what will happen. So what they've won the past 3 titles; they have limited DI tradition and many places have nicer facilities, including Big Sky program Montana. Actually, UND's IPF will even up UND and NDSU facility-wise.
  4. Yeah and Southern had a winning record while Bubba was there. Mussman and UND - not so much.
  5. Oh big deal. Oklahoma was overrated.

I agree; FBS transfers looking for playing time or a better situation are one thing, but JUCOs are higher risk additions, often due to grades. Like I said in another thread, high school recruits and an FBS recruit or two a year can get the job done.
  7. LB Marcus Jenkins-Moore, the FBS transfer from the University of Kansas, is originally from Louisville, Kentucky.

Looks like S Chris Hannible is no longer on the roster - that's not good. He had big play potential. Makes Reyes almost a guaranteed starter next to Carr at he safety spots.
  9. Here on August 1st is my guess at the starting lineup on August 28th vs. San Jose State. QB Joe Mollberg RB Cedric Simmons FB Dustin Iverson TE Zach Adler WR1 RJ McGIll WR2 Casey Young LT AJ Stockwell LG Brandon Anderson C Colton Boas RG Sean Meehan RT Devin Barton LE Alec Carrothers RE Jordan Hinojosa NG Shea Walker OLB Marcus Jenkins-Moore OLB Dayo Idowu MLB Ben Peters MLB Will Ratelle CB Alex Tillman CB Dominique Blackmon FS Chris Hannible SS Baylee Carr K Reid Taubenheim P Mitch Meindel There are several positions of uncertainty. QB could see Ryan Bartels; RB could see Adam Shaugabay; FB could have Dewayne Pecosky start; WR could have Miguel Cerriteno or Tyhre Ivery start; and OL could see AJ Stockwell not start causing one of the guards (likely Anderson) to swing outside to tackle – lot of question marks. I’m a little more certain with the defense, with the one exception being safety. I believe Chris Hannible will crack the starting lineup at the expense of Cole Reyes.
  10. We appreciate the father's input. Welcome to UND and let's win some football games!
  11. 3 FBS transfers is about right IMO. Understandably, recruiting is key to success, especially in North Dakota given the lack of area DI schools in Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc. With that said, having a recruiting class with around 20 high school graduates and 3 FBS transfers is a great way to stay competitive immediately without rebuilding years. In the past, many FCS schools have been successful with FBS transfers if mixed correctly with high school recruits. EWU did it in 2010 when they won the NC and others have won playoff games doing it too. As the old adage goes, there's more than one way to skin a cat [win a championship].
  12. OLB Marcus Jenkins-Moore looks to be a quality addition. All 3 FBS defensive transfers will likely start and be immediate contributors this season. With that, and a defensive-minded coaching staff, the defense should be better in 2014.
  13. http://www.grandfork...football-season Here's an article on the new video boards going up in the Alerus. I'm afraid the first line of the article doesn't ooze much confidence in the 2014 UND football team; actually, it sounds like the Grand Forks media expects another 3 or 4 win season. Let's hope Bubba proves them wrong and gets this thing to 5 or 6 wins in 2014 and then on to bigger things in 2015!
  14. Last 10 years: 2005 NCC Conference Champions (head coach) 2008 Missouri Valley Football Conference Champions (D coordinator) 2009 Missouri Valley Football Conference Champions (D coordinator) NDSU has the 3-peat advantage and that's definitely their primary advantage. If NDSU starts losing and UND starts winning, UND will be right back in the recruiting picture as far as going recruit for recruit with NDSU.
  15. Absolutely. O line play needs to be improved from 2013.. There's still hope that the d line will be improved from 2013 with the additions and change in coaching.
  16. This offensive line situation could end up being a bad, bad thing… …or it could turn out alright if one of the redshirt freshman O linemen surprise.
  17. Nothing to say in my opinion - NDSU has straight up received several commitments from players UND wanted...
  18. Hope it gets done soon, particularly before the football season opener so that the 2014 team can reap the benefits of an equipment deal...
  19. NDSU is killing 2015 recruiting this far. I hate that football program…
  20. Thank you for the post! We are extremely happy to have Jordan here at THE University of North Dakota. I hope you are able to attend a few games, if not all, so that you can see the family atmosphere that UND prides itself on. Our first year head coach Bubba Schweigert is a tremendous ambassador of the university who supports family and physical football. UND was very prominent nationally in D2 football in the early 2000s, but our previous coach had us fall off a bit at the D1 level; however, I truly believe your son and the rest of his respective recruiting class will help turn UND football back into what it was and what it should be. Go UND!
  21. UND should defeat RMU; however, I'm not sure on the margin. No way to know; depends how the team looks in week 1.
  22. Robert Morris won't bring many, that's quite certain.
  23. I've heard with my own ears that this true. However, the bottom line is people just want a winner.
  24. I'll definitely take an improvement in most positions if it means detracting from one position. Football is the ultimate team game. I agree that the absolute two biggest things expected to improve should be QB play and defensive secondary play. With those two things better, this team has a chance to improve on its 2013 record by a few games. Also, the running game emphasis will be beneficial. Seeing the football alumni golf game today include guys like Chris Kuper, Tim Tibesar, and Dave Osborne get me excited for the future of UND football. It just kinda feels like the early 2000s when support was at a high - Bubba deserves a lot of credit for that.
  25. It just seemed that you were considering the talent on this team to be very lacking, but that's not necessarily true. Last years freshmen class has talented players, the transfers are unknowns, and the QBs both are more experienced. All in all, the coaching staff may have a decent amount of talent to work with. And your last comment isn't necessarily true; depth is key.
